Don Anderson announced yesterday that Agalloch were now recording their fifth full-lenght album. I can't be the only one who's pumped by these good news :)

I think Agalloch have definitely made it's place among the greats of our time. There is nothing they've ever released that wasn't inspired and fulfilling. I'm hoping for another amazing album!

New Agalloch, eh? Sweet. They're one of my favorite bands.

This is what he wrote:

Don Anderson
December 12 near Portland, OR, United States
"Agalloch album #5 begins today."

And this is a picture he posted later that day, saying "A proper amp setup."

Oooh cool. I recently started getting into them more than I have in the past. So I may not be as "pumped" as you or Sense-Offender, but I still can't wait to hear this.

A thread in General got me curious.
How much music does everyone here have (hour wise)?
And then out of that how much of it is Metal or would be considered Metal?
I have roughly 1,500 hours of music but only 966 of that would be considered Metal.
The rest is Alt. Rock, Grunge, Classic Rock, Prog. Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Stoner Rock, Shoegaze, Hard Rock, Indie, and Punk.

Total:
34 days, 9 hours, 34 minutes and 57 seconds

Metal:
20 day, 7 hours, 45 minutes and 36 seconds

So that's somewhere between 13 and 14 days of music that isn't metal. And the genres are pretty diversified.

Response to Metal Hell 2013-12-18 23:03:21

Well I for one only listen to metal. Call me ignorant but I just don't like other types of music. I tried to get into some but I never could.

Total Length: 3 weeks, 0 days, 15 hours, 25 minutes, 27 seconds. So, that's about 519 hours of just music.
I also have a shitload of Radio Plays (or "Full Cast Audio Dramas"): about 540 hours.

But I can't say how much of the music could be considered metal. I just keep everything in one playlist (except for the Audio Dramas, I keep a few seperate playlists for those). A rough guess is that about half to 2/3 is metal. The rest is hip hop (mostly german stuff), punk (again, mostly german stuff and mostly political punk. No "Blink 182" crap punk), general rock... and stuff like Radiohead and Bjƶrk, where I wouldn't know in which category I should put those.

I listen to Misfits a lot, have yet to give Sex Pistols a shot (well, other songs than Anarchy in the UK) and I never heard of Screeching Weasel. :(
But as I've said, I mostly listen to political punk like Slime (Second album "Yankees raus" on youtube)

This is Screeching Weasel.

It's them doing a cover. But you get the general idea as to what they sound like.
Dead Kennedys?

I'll check that out now.

Thanks!

My Christmas was pretty cool, both Christmas eve with my girlfriend's family and the morning of Christmas (more like afternoon, really). I've received and given quite a few gifts and I'm really happy of how things went with all the good people I was with (boy, I drank too much beer and wine, though).

One of my gifts is kind of relavent to mention in the Metal Hell. I don't know if you guys remember this Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell album by Ulver, but my parents offered me the book it was inspired by. And I just started reading it. It's not really a book with a standard narrative but rather a work of philosophy and poetry on good, evil, reason, etc. by the English romantic poet William Blake (28 November 1757 ā€“ 12 August 1827).

I like it so far. I'd recommand it, and so would I recommand the album by Ulver.

Did we post our favorite albums of the year yet? Because I'm gonna do that right now.

5. Gorguts - Colored Sands

4. Kataklysm - Waiting For The End To Come

3. Rotting Christ - Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy

2. Suffocation - Pinnacle of Bedlam

1. Amon Amarth - Deceiver of the Gods

A few things.

1) What did everyone get for Christmas this year? Anything interesting? This is what I got.
2) The Black Metal documentary "Out of the Black - A Black Metal Documentary" has been released via YouTube.
3) Christopher Lee is now apparently the oldest Heavy Metal performer in history at age 91. And now holds the record for being the oldest living performer to have a song enter the charts with the song Jingle

Lack of activity here is always appalling for me but I did get some good metal stuff for Christmas, especially the battle jacket that I got. Oh, and I got Agalloch's Marrow of the Spirit... twice. :P

Just saw Suffocation tonight. Met Frank Mullen & Terrance. Also bumped into Karl Sanders of Nile for some reason, he was there. Awesome night, Suffo is sick live.

I forgot to ask you this when I responded in that thread.
Why did you get a Toblerone?
Everything seems okay (yes even the Reese's and the Darth Vader mints), but for some reason that just seems really...out of place.

Plus, I like Toblerone.
I hardly asked for anything this year (compared to my family and friends) so I assume they just picked up whatever they thought I might like.

Ah. Well then thats all good.

In total, I asked for about 7 or 8 things (the Darkthrone and Foo Fighters albums included)

I remember one year all I asked for (from non-immediate family for some Christmas party) was:
Gum, Uno cards, and an Ozzy Osbourne CD.
And I got all of them. I wanna say I got like 3 different Uno games and 10 packages of Hubba Bubba Bubblegum and my aunt and uncle got me an Ozzy Osbourne 2 disc greatest hits album. Though another aunt and uncle of mine got me a kazoo and a shirt. And I still have both.

Haha! Shit like that happens from time to time. Marrow of the Spirit is a great album. Do you have any other album by Agalloch?

I didn't give or receive much metal-related gifts, except for earings that look like deers to my girlfriend. She wears them with the Agalloch t-shirt I found her last year. That's pretty metal, right? :P Otherwise I've received a few rock albums, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, plus Wish You Were Here, and Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow's self-titled album.

Yeah, I've got three of their albums. Only one I'm missing is Pale Folklore. I'm likely to pre-order their new album when we get close to the release date.

I think Lugburz is better than the rest of the stuff Summoning has done. The keyboards are kinda silly sometimes in their songs. Also, Richard Lederer from Summoning has a really good electro-industrial project called Ice Ages.

I've listened to Glowsun and Wiht and Black Math Horseman. But the latter has only been a few songs that you've posted in that Post Music, Rate Above thread. I'll be sure to check out the rest of those bands though.
Though I feel I need to ask. Do Keelhaul play Pirate themed music? I feel that with a name like Keelhaul they should.
