I know I've listened to Virus, Ihsahn, and I wanna say Solefald because you posted some stuff by them in that Post music, rate the one above! thread. And I've heard some stuff by Rotting Christ. But I didn't really start listening to stuff by them til I heard them cover a song for a Black Sabbath tribute album for Metal band from Greece.

Now with that in mind I was curious.
What 5 bands could you recommend me (i'm not looking for any specific genre of metal) out of your favorite bands?

Insomnium (always number 1 on my list)
Immortal
Gorgoroth
1349
Suffocation

But because you probably already know all of these bands, I would strongly recommend giving Gromm a listen (especially if you're into that thrashy kind of black metal).

Well... reading the article... he doesn't seem to have done much harm. The only motive why he was arrested being that he received Breivik's manifesto. Plus, Varg criticized Breivik's actions...

Well for someone like him I wouldn't be surprised if he was involved in the attacks somehow. He's already a convicted murderer from killing Euronymous, and certainly doesn't have the respect from too many people.

Did you read the whole article or Varg's opinions on the Breivnik massacre? Because he was obviously against it.

He criticized how Breivik's actions turned out, but he still supports the "original cause".

Can't you support a cause and still object the ways to achieve goals?

How else can you achieve such goals? Only uncompromising coercion can create the kind of society Varg wants to live in. He's just pussyfooting, and likely found distaste in the murdering of ethnic Norwegians. Either way, Varg is about as harmful as your average college bound Marxist (harmless). His influence begins and ends with his voice. He seems to be more interested in conducting pseudo science with his wife. I don't believe he should have been arrested just for receiving a copy of Brevik's manifesto/supporting national socialist groups.

Ya' know, I'm really glad to live in the US. We don't have half the racial/ethnic tension you people have in Europe.

But past this subject, does anybody have some odd/embarrassing gig experiences they'd like to share?

I went to a Suffocation concert a year ago, and I met Terrence Hobbes in the bathroom. He was pretty cool, talked for a while. I went over to the merch table, and saw pairs of Suffo panties. I thought "I need these", and bought a pair. I saw Terrence walking by with some equipment and walked up to him, stretching the panties with my fingers, and with a smile and said "I guess you could say I'm a fan...". He got really weirded out and muttered "Haha, nice..." and walked away. I didn't realize how gay I probably looked until about an hour later. He didn't seem to mind talking to me at the merch table afterwards, but I still don't know what possessed me to think it was a good idea.

I do have a somewhat embarrassing story. I went to see a show that Black Tusk headlined at the Loft in Poughkeepsie. Thou, MonstrO, and my buddy's band Echo 3(awesome prog rock, I'll post a link if I can find) supported. I had a bit too much to drink and acted kind of dumb when I chatted with Andrew Fidler. I kept asking him about John Baizley (he's done album artwork for Black Tusk). I was like "So, do you ever just hang out with John Baizley? Yeah? That's cool. I love his music and artwork....So, do you ever just hang out with John Baizley? Yeah? That's cool. I love his music and artwork....So, do you ever just hang out with John Baizley?" lol

He was nice about it, though. No funny looks or anything. And he and James and Jon signed a shirt I bought there. I wouldn't have been able to get those autographs if it weren't for Kyle Sanders from MonstrO. He let me borrow his sharpie. MonstrO is an awesome rock band, btw.

I was freakin' smashed. I walked up to a stranger, shook his hand, and said "Wow, I am star struck....Oh, sorry, I thought you were the guy from Mastodon (Brent Hinds)"

Alcohol is a hell of a drug.

The Loft is awesome because the band is like right there when they play and they chill out when they're not playing so you can just go up to them and talk. Also, they have comfy couches and chairs...and a bar.

Well, I'm not too sure what Varg would think, but through politics you can affect the socio-cultural environnement in some way. I'm pretty sure he hates representative democracy... but he still encouraged the French to vote for the right-wing nationalist party of France, the Front National.

Still nothing compared to Europe. We have plenty of centrist/supremacist organizations, but nothing like Golden Dawn.

"Lately"? Lol, it's been that way for many years. I'm guessing you were talking about that whole stomping incident where the kid got 20 years. I was talking about racial/ethnic issues (though our War on Drugs and drug related policies are terribly racist), but I do agree our judicial/penal system is fucked up. We really do need to revise our penal system to make it more progressive with the crime, and for gods sake, stop this whole War on Drugs.

As far as I know he does support Breivik's means, the only thing he disliked was the result of his actions.

There are still major racial and ethnic issues in the United States of America. Plus, Florida is a shithole of judiciary bullshit.

After a whole bunch of high powered energy drinks and vodka, I stormed a pit at an Enthroned show then ended up, in one fell swoop, sending 3 ppl including myself to the hospital. The best part was I didn't feel a thing!

I've been listening to them quite a bit for the past couple days thats why I'm asking.

I don't know anything about them other than that the doctor who fixed my nose at that once concert where I broke my nose at broke his nose at a butthole surfers concert.

And I already take medication. Depakote and Zyprexa. Look em' up if you want.

They're for the most part a Hardcore Punk band thats also a weird mix of Psychedelic Rock, Alt. Rock, and other various things like that.
This is probably their "heaviest" song if you wanna give it a listen.
Who Was In My Room Last Night?

also if you look at the part where the dude is at the bar thats Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers

That entire album is probably my favorite by them. It also came out 6 days after I was born.

Their latest album is in Sommiphobia, and yes, it's very good. All of their albums are. You can't go wrong with Sigh.

They've had a few different sounds. My overall favorite Sigh albums are probably Hangman's Hymn and Imaginary Sonicscape, but some of my favorite songs of theirs (Zombie Terror, Prelude to the Oracle, Messiahplan) are from different albums.

I've known about this place for a long time, but I guess I never really used much of the C&C Forums, but I wanted to at least get into this group.

I like a massive range of subgenres and can really enjoy most stuff, I'm a little iffy on some stoner metal stuff like Electric Wizard but I can definitely listen to it without turning it off. This is a general summary of some of the metal bands I like:

Amon Amarth
Avenged Sevenfold
Bloodbath
Bullet For My Valentine
Cannibal Corpse
Chimaira
Deicide
Dethklok
Devildriver
Five Finger Death Punch
Gojira
Heaven Shall Burn
Lamb of God (Probably my favorite band, for reasons explained below)
Mastadon (Before Blood Mountain)
Motograter
Motörhead (I hope to shit that the umlaut works)
Opeth
Prong
Sabaton (A close second for my favorite)
Soulfly
Suffocation
Throwdown
Testament
Trivium
Whitechapel

There's a ton of stuff between this too, but these are probably the top 40-50%,

I really enjoy groove metal and good melodic quality, and provoking lyrics are an obvious plus (Hence the LoG and Sabaton).
Chimaira is another really good one (If you're a fan of heavier groove metal), this is my personal favorite song by them.

Chimaira- Trigger Finger

Yeah that didn't work....haha.
Though I'm ticked they apparently pulled out of Riot Fest. Then again Lemmy has been having health issues so I suppose it makes sense. Though they were replaced by Pixies. So I suppose that its not all bad haha.
I have a chance to either go to Riot Fest or to go see Black Sabbath later next month because my sister's friend got 6 free tickets to go to either one of those concerts because her boyfriend works at the place both of em are going to be. And my sister is ticked that she can't go to Riot Fest because theres a good chance shes apparently going to Vegas or something to see Iron Maiden and Megadeth.
