What can I say? I found a new love of mine: stoner metal.

Good...good...let the love of Stoner Metal flow through you....
And listen to Kyuss, Karma To Burn, Fu Manchu (though I consider them "skater metal"....don't ask), and Unida.

I'm a total black metal guy, I listen to all different kinds but Immortal is seriously awesome as well. I realize they have a different kind of feeling to them too, it's more atmospheric and cold rather than brutality/anti-Christianity. I wish there were more like that.

I agree. I love Immortal, they are probably my second or third favorite Black Metal band (the other two are Sigh and depending on how far you count Bathory as black metal). I really wish more sounded like 'em. But then again, I love them because they have a unique sound. They don't feel the need to have really shoddy production, their's is crisp and clean and awesome. Also, I like their melodic sensabilities that most bm bands don't have.

Older immortal has some pretty shitty production (battles in the north, anyone?) but it's still great stuff. From watching music videos Immortal did and reading interviews, it becomes obvious they don't take themselves seriously at all.

And btw Bathory ARE black metal. Quorthon personified it through Bathory.

Well, when I was talking about Bathory, I was wondering if people counted his later stuff like Hammerheart amd Twilight of the Gods. And while yes, early Immortal has shoddy production, they didn't feel a need to keep it like that and their later stuff has some great production. It was more of an example of how they don't restrain themselves by normal black metal standards.

The melodic sensibilities is that atmospheric feeling I mentioned. It's just amazing. The fact that they're so unique makes me love them more, knowing that there are barely any other bands that have their style.

As far as Bathory goes. They are black metal but definitely a different kind of black metal if you compare them to bands today. First wave black metal generally sounds more thrashy (Venom being a perfect example) but Bathory incorporates more viking metal into their sound. It's awesome.

Since we've been talking about Immortal, I saw this picture and found it rather amusing. The cat's face does look like it has corpse paint, lol.

What can I say? I found a new love of mine: stoner metal.

Cannibus Corpse is the only true stoner metal I know, but I hear Cephalic Carnage has some weed inspired shit.

On another note, anyone listen to Vale of Pnath? Found them recently after listening to my Spawn of Possession channel on pandora. Well, I actually discovered a bunch of bads I now like from that channel.

Also, I need cymbals for my kit, anyone know of any high grade cabals that wont break the bank? Im looking for a dark sounding ride with a large bell, two high quality crashes that produce a clear sound with great cutting power, a splash to match, and some brilliant and light sounding hi- hats. Help would be much appreciated.

Yeah, if there's something I want to see more from black metal, it's atmospheric and cold kind of black metal.

At 12/19/12 02:19 PM, ElGhoulio wrote: And btw Bathory ARE black metal. Quorthon personified it through Bathory.

I'd say they are, although it does have a different flavour of black metal to everything else. Well, the Hammerheart/Twilight of the Gods era anyway. Blood Fire Death definitely has some true black metal elements that everyone is familiar with.

You know, I could have shoved that cat picture aside and said "Oh look, another cat meme image" but the fact that it looks like it has corpse paint makes me love it all.

Awesome! I'm definitely looking forward to this album. Is it just me or does "Secular Haze" sound like a great song by the title alone? Probably just me.

Don't know how many of you are into this type of black metal, but I know this one's going at the top of my list for what I'm purchasing next. I've always loved Blodsrit, these guys are fucking awesome.

Soon I'll be getting some money for the holidays, and I know I'll be purchasing a shitload of metal stuff with it. Anyone else spending money/getting gifts of metal merchandise?

Have fun trying to pronounce the new album title. I'd have been happier with Secular Haze as the album title but this one will be fun to say.

...how in the fucking hell do you pronounce those? o.O
Especially that first one...

It for some odd reason reminded me of Big Church by Sunn O))), but I don't even know if I can ever pronounce that right....

Mine right now is a toss up between Sigh's In Somniphobia or Vintersorg's Orkan. Both are really fantastic albums but I think I have a definite song of the year. Amnesia by Sigh. The weird mixture of lounge jazz and Sigh's brand of black metal is so amazing and unique that it couldn't be anything else.

Hmm....I have no idea ._.
It'd be a tie between
High On Fire - De Vermis Mysteriis
Baroness - Yellow & Green
Stoned Jesus - Seven Thunders Roar
and Graveyard - Lights Out

Although I liked Pallbearer - Sorrow & Extinction, Orange Goblin - A Eulogy For The Damned, The Cosmic Dead - The Exalted King, and Old Man Lizard - Old Man Lizard. But I wouldn't say they're my favorites from this year....

I guess I'll have to listen to those more and then pick between those.

Most likely Frenzy, Ecstacy by Leeches Of Lore. It's a goddamn fantastic album ! It mixes elements of Stoner Metal/Rock, Heavy Metal, Thrash Metal, Blues and of course Spaghtetti Western music !

I really only have one strong choice and that's Dawnbringer's Into the Lair of the Sun God. Last year I had a few albums competing for my best but this time it's just the one album. I hope 2013 will be a lot better for music as it's been rather lackluster this year. The new year already provides Helloween, Voivod, Manilla Road, Enforcer and Ghost so I'm already looking up. There's more artists to expect from but I'll wait until there's more word from them.

Well, I figured out what I am going to do about my Metal Calendar. I won't get a new cord until mid-January (if it's before that I'd be shocked) and I've decided once I get it, I'll just post all the days I missed right then. It won't start up as early as I would have liked (and I am farther behind with the pre-writes than I would like), but it'll still happen. So, yay for anyone who cares!
