Hey guys, I just found out about this band named Tyrannic Ethical Reconstruction. It's the ancient band of actual Fleshgod Apocalypse members and it's damn good. The thing is that they only had demos released when they split-up and I can't get find a way to download this one demo named Sin Life Death. You guys know anyway to get this ?

Tyrannic Ethical Reconstruction - Metastasis

Otherwise, hear the track. It's fucking good :)

Speaking of Fleshgod, have you heard the band Hour of Penance? It's a band that has several members of Fleshgod Apocalypse in it. Solid tech death band, not quite as good, but still worth your time.

I know them yes. I didn't know that some mucisians played in both bands. But now that you mention it, it makes sense. I'll give another listen to Hour of Penance I guess, it can't be worst than Agony. If Fleshgod Apocalypse do not go back to their roots, they will die a shitty symphonic... death metal version of dimmu borgir/nightwish. Agony was a big dissapointment to me. But I was happy to find out about that other band I gave a link for earlier because it's really good death/thrash and reminds me a lot of Fleshgod Apocalypse's good material.

Anyone else in Metal Hell donate to The Project Hate MCMXCIX donation project? Lord K just released his latest album, The Cadaverous Retaliation Agenda, and only those who donated received it. I just downloaded the album from a link provided to me by Lord K himself, as well as the instrumental version of the album, and PDFs of the booklet and CD cover, as it is a digital-only release due to limited funds obviously. I have yet to listen to it, but I was wondering if anyone else in this thread has received the album as well. I'm extremely excited to listen to it...

I'm pretty sure the album will be easily purchasable from Lord K on his website, so I'll let you guys know what I think of it once I listen to it a few times (and will probably recommend that you look into buying it).

It made more sense in my head.

Actually I just realized it would be useless for me to talk about it at this point since I'm probably the only one here who has heard it, so I'll let you guys know if it's ever available for sale. Here's a short few words I had to say about it though.

How would you guys feel about putting an album on Youtube? Do you see it as bad as pirating the album, maybe even worse? I just want other people to be able to hear it, that's all, so if it's not available for easy purchase in the next year or so, I think I will upload it to Youtube, or maybe just put the instrumental up. I don't know.

I love Pallbearer
I was actually listening to that album earlier today along with Brutus - Brutus and Buried Sleeper - Colosseum.
If you haven't listened to either of those bands I highly reccommend them.
Brutus has a bit of a Graveyardy feel to them.
And Buried Sleeper is pretty good Sludge/Doom Metal.

So, we all know about the big four of thrash metal, but who do you think would be the big four of the other subgenres? not the four best, just the four most prominent or maybe the most influential in each subgenre. Here's what I think.

death metal: Death, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation

black metal: Mayhem, Emperor, Immortal, Bathory

traditional heavy metal: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Manowar

doom metal: Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Candlemass, Cathedral

sludge metal: Eyehategod, Mastodon, Melvins, Crowbar

stoner metal: Electric Wizard, Boris, Kyuss, Sleep

funeral doom metal: Skepticism, Funeral, Wormphlegm, Mournful Congregation

power metal: Dragonforce, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Stratovarius

folk metal: Turisas, Korpiklaani, Ensiferum, Finntroll

avant garde metal: Arcturus, Ved Buens Ende, Mr. Bungle, Dodheimsgard

progressive metal: Dream Theater, Ayreon, Queensryche, Fates Warning

melodeath: In Flames, at the Gates, Soilwork, Amon Amarth

Yeah, I'm bored

Totally agree with this. Though I have a shit load of Melvins on my computer and I dont listen to them as much as the other 3 bands you listed for some ODD reason....though Bullhead and Houdini are my favorite albums by them.

stoner metal: Electric Wizard, Boris, Kyuss, Sleep

Fucking yeeeessss!!!!!
Which reminds me that I still need to get some stuff by Boris....

I agree with At the gates and Amon Amarth but not so much with In Flames and Soilwork since they no longer play in that style but then again Metallica didn't stick with Thrash. I would put Black Dahlia Murder and Arch Enemy in there.

No Autopsy? No Possessed?

black metal: Mayhem, Emperor, Immortal, Bathory

Moar like Mayhem, Hellhammer, Mayhem, Burzum

traditional heavy metal: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Manowar

Works for me, though the fourth is often up for debate. Other contenders could be Dio, Accept, or Ozzy.

doom metal: Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Candlemass, Cathedral

Well there you go Ozzy's taken care of.

sludge metal: Eyehategod, Mastodon, Melvins, Crowbar

stoner metal: Electric Wizard, Boris, Kyuss, Sleep

Can't comment since I know close to nothing of them

funeral doom metal: Skepticism, Funeral, Wormphlegm, Mournful Congregation

No Funeral (the Norway one)?

power metal: Dragonforce, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Stratovarius

Moar like Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Virgin Steele

folk metal: Turisas, Korpiklaani, Ensiferum, Finntroll

Agreed

avant garde metal: Arcturus, Ved Buens Ende, Mr. Bungle, Dodheimsgard

Too many of these fuckers to list just four

progressive metal: Dream Theater, Ayreon, Queensryche, Fates Warning

No Symphony X?

melodeath: In Flames, at the Gates, Soilwork, Amon Amarth

Yeah, I'm bored

There's a few others I would list, but that seems to work pretty well.

Makes sense. Atheist, Decapitated and Cryptopsy also popped in my mind thinking about this.

black metal: Mayhem, Emperor, Immortal, Bathory

Some would definitely argue that Darkthrone needs a place somewhere, maybe replacing Immortal. Leviathan and Gorgoroth need to be mentionned two.

traditional heavy metal: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Manowar

You know better than me :P

doom metal: Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Candlemass, Cathedral

Wouldn't bands like Bongripper, Paradise Lost and Reverend Bizarre fit here somewhere ?

sludge metal: Eyehategod, Mastodon, Melvins, Crowbar

Boris needs to fit somewhere. If not here, in Stoner Metal or Doom Metal.

stoner metal: Electric Wizard, Boris, Kyuss, Sleep

Boris ?

funeral doom metal: Skepticism, Funeral, Wormphlegm, Mournful Congregation

Can't tell...

power metal: Dragonforce, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Stratovarius

Helloween surely needs to have a place here. So does Gamma Ray. And if Stratovarius is there I could easily throw in Sonata Arctica. Mine would probably go something like Helloween, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Sonata Arctica

folk metal: Turisas, Korpiklaani, Ensiferum, Finntroll

Really depends what you mean by folk. Because Bathory and Borknagar would have a place on this list. I assume you are talking more about the epic folk scene. So I'd say Ensiferum, Finntroll, Equilibrium and Turisas. And screw Korpiklaani.

Eluveitie would have had a good place there two.

avant garde metal: Arcturus, Ved Buens Ende, Mr. Bungle, Dodheimsgard

Arcturus, Ihsahn, maudlin of the Well, Sigh

progressive metal: Dream Theater, Ayreon, Queensryche, Fates Warning

You obviously forgot Symphony X :P And Cynic should replace Ayreon on that list. I'd keep both DT and Fates Warning and throw in Symphony X and Cynic.

melodeath: In Flames, at the Gates, Soilwork, Amon Amarth

In Flames, Kalmah, Soilwork, Scar Symmetry

And how about a little Drone Doom section ? :)

soooo
drone doom: Sunn O))), Boris, Earth, Nadja

Totally agree with this. Though I have a shit load of Melvins on my computer and I dont listen to them as much as the other 3 bands you listed for some ODD reason....though Bullhead and Houdini are my favorite albums by them.

I think my favorites are Stag, Stoner Witch, and Bootlicker. A lot of people would choose Bullhead, but I think it's overrated compared to those three albums. Of course, it's still good, though.

At 12/13/12 12:16 AM, ElGhoulio wrote: No Autopsy? No Possessed?

They're good bands, but I think the ones I listed get more recognition, even if Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, and Suffocation aren't as good as Autopsy and Possessed. At least, I think Autopsy and Possessed are better than Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse, judging from what I've heard. I can't comment on Suffocation, though. I must confess, I've still not checked them out.

Moar like Mayhem, Hellhammer, Mayhem, Burzum

Hellhammer and Burzum are definitely important in the genre, I'll give you that. I think either of our lists work here.

Works for me, though the fourth is often up for debate. Other contenders could be Dio, Accept, or Ozzy.

Yeah, I actually think Dio works better than Manowar.

No Funeral (the Norway one)?

I included them.

Moar like Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Virgin Steele

Helloween, Gamma Ray, and Blind Guardian definitely work. I dunno about Virgin Steele compared to the others, though.

No Symphony X?

Yeah, I think I'd swap out Ayreon with Symphony X.

Remember, though, I'm not picking favorites.

At 12/13/12 01:10 AM, HeavenDuff wrote: Makes sense. Atheist, Decapitated and Cryptopsy also popped in my mind thinking about this.

Those definitely work.

I haven't listened to Decapitated in a while.

Some would definitely argue that Darkthrone needs a place somewhere, maybe replacing Immortal. Leviathan and Gorgoroth need to be mentionned two.

I did consider Darkthrone, but I had a tough time deciding between them and the ones I went with. I forgot about Gorgoroth, though.

Wouldn't bands like Bongripper, Paradise Lost and Reverend Bizarre fit here somewhere ?

None of those are quite as big as the ones I mentioned, though.

Boris needs to fit somewhere. If not here, in Stoner Metal or Doom Metal.

I wouldn't count them as sludge for the most part, but some of their stuff does sound sludgy, like Amplifier Worship. I decided to put them under stoner metal.

Helloween surely needs to have a place here. So does Gamma Ray.

I wasn't sure which was bigger, Helloween or Stratovarius. But I didn't even think of Gamma Ray.

Really depends what you mean by folk. Because Bathory and Borknagar would have a place on this list. I assume you are talking more about the epic folk scene. So I'd say Ensiferum, Finntroll, Equilibrium and Turisas. And screw Korpiklaani.

I don't even listen to Ensiferum or Turisas. I just know that they're huge in the folk scene. I'd much rather listen to Bathory or Borknagar.

Also, I still like some Korpiklaani. good partying music.

Eluveitie would have had a good place there two.

I had considered them. I know they're big in the folk metal scene.

Arcturus, Ihsahn, maudlin of the Well, Sigh

works, I guess. But Written in Waters, Mr. Bungle, and Disco Volante were all hugely influential albums. You can't deny Sigh, though.

You obviously forgot Symphony X

yeah, big mistake there, but I wouldn't pick Cynic over Queensryche. Operation Mindcrime and Empire are legendary.

In Flames, Kalmah, Soilwork, Scar Symmetry

heh. Kalmah definitely beats the hell out of most melodeath I've heard.

drone doom: Sunn O))), Boris, Earth, Nadja

I'm definitely with you on Sunn O))), Boris, and Earth. I'm only gonna agree with Nadja because I honestly can't think of another example.

I was also gonna bring up gothic metal, but I don't know enough about it.

Virgin Steele are like THE USPM band if there ever was a contender for that genre. Their albums in the 90's (Life in the Ruins, Marriage of Heaven and Hell pts. 1/2, Invictus, The House of Atreus acts 1/2) did a large part in keeping traditional metal alive in the US. David DeFeis is one of THE prototypical voices from America.

No Symphony X?
Yeah, I think I'd swap out Ayreon with Symphony X.

Remember, though, I'm not picking favorites.

True, but Symphony X have been around marginally longer than Ayreon and have a MUCH larger influence on the scene around them. Ayreon is good and quite progressive (more so than Symphony X) but the level of Symphony X's professionalism is simply undeniable, and every member is held up as a paragon in that particular style. They're too big a monolith to ignore.

Seems like a solid enough four, I might swap out Suffocation for Obituary, but that's just personal preference.

black metal: Mayhem, Emperor, Immortal, Bathory

Another incredibly solid four, but I feel like Celtic Frost might deserve a mention.

traditional heavy metal: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Manowar

Hmmmm. I am not a big fan of Manowar so I'd probably put someone like Rainbow or Dio instead.

doom metal: Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Candlemass, Cathedral

I am gonna go with the common consensus of throwing in Saint Vitus instead.

sludge metal: Eyehategod, Mastodon, Melvins, Crowbar

Not a big fan of sludge so I can't comment.

stoner metal: Electric Wizard, Boris, Kyuss, Sleep

Hmmm. I prefer High on Fire to most of these, but I agree these probably did more for the scene.

funeral doom metal: Skepticism, Funeral, Wormphlegm, Mournful Congregation

Don't really listen to this, so I don't know.

power metal: Dragonforce, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody, Stratovarius

I'm agreeing with most people with adding Helloween and Gamma Ray. I might make an argument for Iced Earth as a representative for US Power Metal. I dunno. My four would be Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, and Iced Earth/Rhapsody depending on my mood.

folk metal: Turisas, Korpiklaani, Ensiferum, Finntroll

I might argue to put Equilibrium in there instead of Turisas.

avant garde metal: Arcturus, Ved Buens Ende, Mr. Bungle, Dodheimsgard

progressive metal: Dream Theater, Ayreon, Queensryche, Fates Warning

melodeath: In Flames, at the Gates, Soilwork, Amon Amarth

I would say throw Dark Tranquility in there instead of Soilwork. I am surprised that no one has mentioned them.
