Well, they're not from Europe, but Zandelle and Hibria are both pretty good. I think you know Heavenly already, but if not, they're a good European pm band. Have you heard of Masterplan? I haven't listened to them, but they have/have had several prominent musicians such as Uli Kusch, Mike Terrana, Roland Grapow, and Jorn Lande.
I think when it comes to exploring underground music, I have the best luck with doom metal.
I think it's avant-garde/experimental for me.
