I have a bit of a schedule ahead of me, too. In between work and school, I have to finish up Infected Nuclear Bioromance, and then I'm gonna do another photoshoot with blacklights and flourescent facepaint/temp hair dye, and then I gotta get to work on getting a live lineup together. The next couple sessions will finish up guitars, bass, and keyboards, and then the one after that will do vocals and guest spots. Then Fraggle has to finish mixing/mastering it, and then it's DONE BABY! So far it's turning out pretty heavy. Lots of layered guitars, and a MUCH thicker guitar sound than before. I feel that even though it's only 45 or so minutes (Graveyard Metal was 77 minutes), INB is a much stronger demo and covers a much broader range of styles and has so far much more solid performances.

That would be a pretty cool experience :P

If you buy Dronevil -Final- you get two cds. Each of these two albums contain three tracks. What you have two do is play the two albums at the same time and try to synchronise them the best you can. This way you will listen to Loose and Red at the same time, Giddiness Throne and Evil Wave Form at the same time and the last two tracks, Interference Demon and The Evil One Which Sobs will be synchronised. It the tracks lenght do not match, the albums length almost does; first half is 1:01:38 and second half is 1:02:57. I don't remember which one if which. But one of the two albums is heavy drone and dark noises, while the other contains ethereal leads, clean melodies, etc. I think the experience must be great. I still haven't found the perfect way to do it :P

I liked Sun Baked Snow Cave and Megatone. I feel I should go through and listen to all of my Boris again....

I'll listen to these two then :)

Speaking of which has anyone heard Altar? Ya know the album with Sunn O))), Boris, Kim Thayil from Soundgarden, Joe Preston from Earth, and a bunch of other people on it?

Hell yes we did ! It's a masterpiece. I'm pretty sure most of us already did listen to it. So while we are at it, Bahamut, if there is any Drone you might like, it could be this album... Altar by Sunn O))) & Boris.

What else did he work with them on? I can only remember Sun Baked Snow Cave and Megatone at the moment...

He worked on the full-length album Klatter, the track Death Valley on the full-lenght album Heavy Rocks and on the extended-play Walrus & Groon. I didn't count the live albums.

So...Voivod released a teaser for their new single, Mechanical Mind. Sounds very Dimension: Hatross or Nothingface-esque. Definitely excited for this, releases January 23, 2013!

Yes. Except the tracks on Dronevil -Final- aren't perfectly synchronised together. One of the albums is like, one minute longer then the other.

I also tried searching for Rosetta on Metal Archives and they have been blacklisted. I'm losing faith in Metal Archives with each passing day. They accept weak-ass deathcore and wankcore bands like Waking The Cadaver, The Red Chord, As Blood Runs Black and Boris The Blade on their archives, but decide to blacklist Post-Metal and Avant-Garde bands like Rosetta and Stolen Babies.

This website is becoming garbage. I hope these dicks will try to save their souls before we get overun by douchebags with buttplugs in their ears.

I still need to get around to listening to all of it...don't know why I haven't done so yet. I like all the people that are on it.

I know and it irritates me that I see all these crappy bands on there instead of bands that deserve to be on there.

Then I shall do that when I am able to.

Also anyone here listen to Lo-Pan, Unida, High Priest Of Saturn, or The Bad Light?

I don't know any of these, and it always has a funny effet on me when somebody names a few artists in a row that I've never heard of. I'm always kind of dissapointed not to know them, but also so very happy to know that there is still and universe to explore in music. What are these bands ?

And also, does anybody know the Melvins enough to recommand me some of their material ? I've being looking through their discography on Metal Archives and I noticed they have so many split albums with so many different bands, and also a big amount of full-lenght albums. Since this band has been all over the place in terms of genres, I really don't know from where to approach their art. Anybody can help ?

Well Unida was a side project of John Garcia of Kyuss. So its similar to Kyuss sound wise. But they only have one full length album that has been officially released. With this being my favorite song off of it. I mostly found out about em because I love Kyuss and bands like them.
High Priest Of Saturn only have a Demo out with 2 songs which you can download on their bandcamp.
As for Lo-Pan and The Bad Light...youd have to hear em because I suck at describing stuff xD.

Hmm...I could suggest something along the lines of Houdini, Gluey Porch Treatments, Electroretard, and maybe Bullhead. You don't necessarily have to listen to me on this though. Just felt like suggesting some of my favorite albums of theirs.

All Hail King Buzzo. And for Sleep Hail Sagan.

Gluey Porch Treatments and Bullhead are pretty biblical. The latter is especially influential, as drony as it got until Earth released material (excluding actual drone). Generally you can't even judge them based on an album, because they are really all over the place. One track could be a fast paced stoner metal song, the next could be them scraping their strings and making noises over a techno beat, and the next could be a country ballad. One thing you must know is the Melvins are silly. Really silly. Imagine Ween with a distortion pedal and the pamphlets from all the Frank Zappa CDs. That silly. For me, that both helps and hurts them. If you are looking for serious, look elsewhere.

My favorite albums by them are Stag, (A) Senile Animal, and Gluey Porch Treatments, if that helps at all.

It seems Bongripper are willing to be independent forever. What do they have now... something like five full-length albums so far and they don't have a label yet. But some labels make artists suck so bad, it may not be a bad thing for them not to get signed.

I honestly think Metal Blade would be a suitable label for them. They shouldn't have to worry about changing their sounds as the founder of Metal Blade Brian Slagel respects originality and diversity in metal a lot. Hammers of Misfortune are one band that joined Metal Blade over the last two years and they didn't change their sound on their latest album to make it sound more mainstream. The most Metal Blade will do to them is mass produce their albums on physical releases which is a step in the right direction for them.

Metal is looking to have a good start for next year. First Manilla Road announce their next album Mysterium to be released in early 2013, then Helloween confirm their next album Straight Out of Hell for mid-January and now Voivod. As some will know, I am a fanatic of Helloween and have been so since my early discoveries of metal (minus the nu-metal garbage) so I always anticipate their new releases*. While 7 Sinners may have followed the dark heavy elements of The Dark Ride and Gambling With the Devil a tad too much, it's a style they can still go for but at the same time they will need to mix something new as well. Even if 7 Sinners may have been rehashing that style, they still made some damn good music along with it

* Unarmed never happened.

On another note, how goes the Metal Calendar project? At this point I imagine now would be a good time to prepare for the January posts.

Their silliness kinds of scare me, yes. I know funny bands can be good. Bands like Ultra Vomit, Crotchduster or Primus, but some like Mr.Bungle are just plain horrible. But I can't skip the Melvins. They have worked with great artists and influenced some others that I like. I'll check them out, if not to find my new favorite band, to know what they sound like and understand a big influence of modern music.

Thanks for the recommendations by the way.

It is actually slightly ahead of schedule. I have finished January and I am very close to finishing February. So, as long as college doesn't interfere with my life too much, I should remain on track (Especially over Christmas break, I will probably pump out a month and a half in that time period).

Speaking of metal releases for this year, I was recently pleasantly surprised by the debut of the band Sophicide. I would suggest checking it out if you are into tech death.

I honestly think Bullhead is good, but overrated. That's the first one I got. I have that, Ozma, Gluey Porch Treatments, Stoner Witch, Stag, Bootlicker, and Nude With Boots. If I were to choose two out of those, I'd go with Stoner Witch and Stag.

Now that's impressive. Hopefully when it starts you'll be half-done already. I'm still considering bringing back Monday Metal Treasure for next year but again, I need to see if I can find enough good entries to cover a whole year. No good in throwing fillers to the list if that's all I can think.

Saw Ensiferum tonight. Kickass performance from them as expected and I at least managed to stay on my toes with the moshpit behind me. Just leaned forward throughout and kept my spot. With earplugs that my sister got me for my birthday, I gave them a shot and found the sound performance to be a lot better. Everything was less noisier and more clear as a result so I approve. Support act sadly wasn't anything interesting and only had me bored for an hour except for a few solos.

I say Valley of the Damned is pretty great two, but listening to Soldiers Of The Wasteland on Sonic Firestorm, I can't help myself but sing the whole thing with everything that is left of my love for chessy metal.

Burning fires burning lives on the long distant roads
Trough the lost mountains endless so far away from home
Warrior soldiers forever we fought long ago
We're all lost in the darkness so far away from home
