I still can't get my hands on Agatus - Gilgamesh.
Is this really vinyl only? Most people don't use those anymore! Is there no digital or CD version?

Sorry dude but it is an EP and most of them are only on vinyl

I feel like getting into metal, more specifically Death and Black medal.
Any recommendations on where I should start?

Please note that this list is nowhere near complete, and that I lost interest halfway through. Still, this should be moar than enough to get you started.

None of these are brutal. Try Goratory out for size.
- Melodic Death: Children Of Bodom (old), At The Gates, Arch Enemy, In Flames(old), Dark Tranquility, Kalmah.
Children of Bodom are not death metal really. They're just speed metal with screamed vocals. Try Arsis out for size.
- Technical Death: Obscura, Decapited, Nile, Necrophagist.
Nile ain't that technical. Where is a mention of Beyond Creation, Archspire, or Neuraxis (old)?
At 6/15/12 08:58 PM, ElGhoulio wrote: Nile ain't that technical.
Still probably the best in that list (Other than Winds era Decapitated. I'm not into much black metal really, so here's a bunch of death metal:
Cryptopsy (Brutal/Tech)
Anata (Melodic/Tech)
Sentenced (Finnish OSDM)
Monstrosity (Florida OSDM)
Polluted Inheritance (Technical OSDM)
Thormenthor (Technical OSDM)
Autopsy (Death n' Death/Doom)
Gorguts (Tech Death)
Plenty more than that on your own request.

I really hate it when bands do this. There are those who much prefer digital or CD format so leaving out tracks for a vinyl only is really bullshit. I had to get Hammers of Misfortune's Unholy Cadaver demo on vinyl with CD because there was no other format to get it on. I did like having the vinyl but others will prefer other formats.
Ugh my girlfriend and I just broke up. I'm not really emo about that, but upon hindsight I realized she drove a wedge between:
a. me and my parents
b. me and my siblings
and
c. me and my friends.
C was newest, and it was when she said "Fine, whatever, hang out with your loser friends" that I told her to go fuck herself.
Fuck that bitch, she was nothing but rude to me for the past three months. I'm not looking for sympathy, since I'm not sad, just irritated and pissed off.

If that's how it went, then things can only get better now that it's over.
Well, I am ready to announce the project I have been working on for the past couple months. This was definitely heavily inspired by Bahamut's Metal Mondays. After I had listened to them all, I kinda missed them in January and February. I longed for something that would introduce me to a bunch of great bands I may have missed. After a while, I got thinking, why don't I do something like that? It would allow me to share a bunch of bands that I think the Hell would like and such. But then I found I couldn't narrow down what bands I wanted to do. So, I decided to do something on a much grander scale. I call it, the Metal Calender. Every day, starting January 1, 2013, I will post a little blurb about a song, with a video embedded (basically, I am ripping Bahamut off here). I would really appreciate you guys checking it out once it starts, and offering support while I struggle through writing all the blurbs right now. Thanks!

Good fuckity god, the new Manowar album is really appalling. This album reeks of one that a band would release after they've exhausted any trace of fresh ideas for their music. Can't say I'm too disappointed since I knew something would go wrong, especially when hardly any info on the album was mentioned prior to the digital release. It was as late as the release date when the album got added to Metal-Archives... It's sad how this album turned out since most of these songs could have been good but with really bad sound production and a lot of enthusiasm missing from the band, this album is such a bore.

I will be perfectly honest by saying relationship life has been a complete failure for me for many years now but I would certainly be without someone like her than to put up with that shit. It only makes me think how she can even get anywhere if that's how she'll treat people.

Amazing idea. This is actually the best thing I've heard all month. I most certainly want to see this making its way off the ground and succeeding with naming 365 different metal songs.
I'll say right now that I'm wanting to give my Monday Metal Treasures a second run in 2013 simply because it kept me in productivity and it was at least something to look forward to every Monday. Hey, if I magically get a full-time permanent job by then, it would definitely lighten up Mondays.

I was so sad when Scott Columbus died. They had to get their drummer from 1980 to play on the new album. I like the revision of Crown and the Ring, but they've kinda fallen off my radar. This is what happens when a band believes their own stage bullshit. See, when a band goes on stage, they're not each individual member; they're the persona that the band created. The problems start arising when they believe they are their on-stage personas. That's what happened with Manowar, unfortunately.

She said it herself; she treats people closest to her the worst. All the anger she feels towards the people she had to deal with on a regular basis she took out on me. I told her to GTFO if that was how it was going to be.

woo. if you get around to doing that again that would be awesome :D
i found out about a few good bands that i didn't know about before that and now really like Legend, Gamma Ray
(technically knew OF them but i didn't get around to listening to them all that much), and like 1 or 2 other bands that i can't think of at the moment ._.

I have already picked the songs and checked that they are on the YouTubes, I just need to write all the blurbs. I hope to have them all done by January, so all I would have to do is post them on the day.

Sweet. This is great news. I discovered a lot of great bands from this.

I should mention that it would help to have them on Blogspot or Wordpress as well. The way you can categorise posts will make it easier to search through what you need. So if you have loads of thrash metal songs, a tag for them would be nice.

I'm aware of your reviews for some of their recent works but I feel they have truly lost the mark over the last decade. I can at least find memorable songs from Warriors of the World and Gods of War but The Lord of Steel has absolutely NOTHING! Utterly watered down from everything they are known for.
I never bought the Thunder in the Sky EP.

Nice one. As for me, I've yet to confirm anything for 2013 but what I'd like to is have each month theme based. While I had some themed months for Monday Metal Treasures in 2011, what would be more interesting is each month taking on a specific topic.
Sweet. This is great news. I discovered a lot of great bands from this.
It would be hard to top the original but I'll gather as much as I can for next year.
Hey guys, haven't been here for a while, but I had nothing to do so I decided to say hi. Still into Post-Sludge, I don't remember who told me about Mouth of the Architect, but they rule! Still... I'm unable to find any band surpassing Cult of Luna haha.
I saw Mastodon and Metallica some days ago, I also had to see Sepultura and Evanescence... Damn... Evanescence just didn't fit there! Also Mastodon should be the headliners, but obviously that would never happen playing with Metallica in such a poopy festival and I'm still waiting to see Mastodon live and have some Crack the Skye, Blood Mountain and Leviathan to please my ears...
I'm sorry, but I must admit, I enjoyed watching Metallica because I've never seen them before, Hetfield is such a charismatic guy and they have a great show I must confess.
Anyway, Mastodon playing before Evanescence? Disgusting, Evanescence is just horrible and boring, I never really gave them a listen because their style just seemed unatracttive to me, but damn they suck... Every song sound exacly the same *drummer drumming hard* *bass* *annoying singing* *occasional chug chug chug*. But Mastodon... Loved them! I was a little disappointed because they just played The Hunter's songs, except Crystal Skull and Blood and Thunder... But... I must admit that at that point the only songs I've listened from The Hunter were Black Tongue and Curl of the Burl, so I felt a little bit lost, watching one of my favourite bands and only recognizing 4 songs... The reason I never gave a listen to The Hunter before was because I disliked Black Tongue and Curl of the Burl, they just didn't work for me so I never felt like getting the album... But when I heard Dry Bone Valley, Stargasm, Octopus has no Friends, All the Heavy Lifting and Thickening, The Hunter became one of my favourite albums of all time, and now I even like Black Tongue and Curl of the Burl!
I also want to show you guys my project A Lifetime Dying, here is the song Ionization, hope you guys like it, I don't know how to describe this project, I'm trying to explore Sludge, Melodic Death, Black, Doom and do something very personal, does it fit in Post-Metal? Well, doesn't really matter, I'm just composing with my heart and doing whatever I want. I know the singing is a little bit shitty, but I'm working on that, and the bass is nothing special aswell because I can't find a bass player and I've never played bass before.

For Death Metal, I will recommand the classics like others have done before me. I will insist on Death, which was one of the greatest of the genre. Suffocation is another very impressive band you shouldn't miss on.
I'm also huge on some more modern Death Metal bands, my favorites being Blood Red Throne, Benighted, Fleshgod Apocalypse (only the Oracles album, the newest sucks balls) and Origin.
I can and will also recommand you check out the Progressive Metal band Blotted Science. It isn't a Death Metal band per say, but it takes various influences from the genre. This band is a gem you just can't afford to miss. If you have some spare time after you've listenned to all these bands, I recommand you check out the album Focus by the Progressive Death Metal band Cynic. Back then, they used to mix very classical death metal elements with a jazzy sound and experimental elements. It is quite worth it :)

That would be me :) I really like Mouth of the Architect, myself. But I don't know Cult of Luna. I think I'm going to give them a listen.

Just got back from the Marduk/1349 show. Fuckin brutal, drank a couple burrs and a vodka redbull and went in the pit and fucked shit up, knocked two guys down at once, threw a dude on his ass, got elbowed and knocked in almost every part of my torso (including my solar plexus) and when they played Baptism By Fire the place erupted in wall to wall pits. Then the bloodrags came out. Fucking beautiful. I'm gonna smoke a hash j and then go to fuckin bed, I'm wiped as fukk
51 minute black/folk metal, you say?
Now that's what I call a journey. Mind you, I'm trying to seek out more lengthy folk metal songs. There's a lot that genre can do so I need to explore much further than previously.
In these last days I have been exploring some symphonic black metal bands and I would like some recommendations.

Emperor has some symphonic elements, and all their stuff is phenomenal. Even if that isn't in particular what you are looking for, check them out anyways. DragonLord is really good. They are a symphonic black metal band formed by the lead guitarist of Testament. Their first album is hit or miss, but their follow up is solid. While I know that Dimmu Borgir is a sort of hated band, their first three are solid albums are pretty good. And speaking of Dimmu Borigir, the guitarist's spin off band Old Man's Child's album In Defiance of Existence is pretty good. Bishop of Hexen is decent, not great, but solid if you are interested. Here is another band that has symphonic elements, but I am not sure if they count as symphonic black metal, Shining. Their album V- Halmastad is great. Anyone here in the Hell with interest in black metal should check it out.

Cradle of filth's old stuff is really good, that is the albums they released in the 90's.

Zodir has recommanded the first few Dimmu Borgir albums, and I second this. For All Tid, Stormblåst and Enthrone Darkness Triumphant are very good Symphonic Black Metal albums that you should listen to.
I will also recommand Abigail Williams. This band started out as a Symphonic Black Metal/Metalcore (Legend EP) band or what some people call Blackcore. First full-lenght (A Thousand Suns) was less Metalcore, more Modern/Symphonic Black Metal. They then moved toward a more Emperor influenced sound and left behind the Metalcore elements with their second full-lenght (In the Absence of Light). Last album they released is nothing like what they have released before. Some people who used to hate them started liking them with this last release (Becoming). This album is an Atmospheric/Symphonic Black Metal album with some Post-Rock influences. I will lightly compare them to Wolves In The Throne Room for this one album. Good band to check out :)
Illnath is the third band I will recommand (illnath). They sound somewhat like Cradle Of Filth... but better... They released one of the greatest albums of the genre named Cast Into Fields Of Evil Pleasure. If you think there is something to CoF but you find them to be... lacking a little... Then you'll find that Illnath is the band, at least of CIFOEP, that Cradle Of Filth should have been !
