And here's me possibly considering going abroad just to see Manilla Road. London show was a no-go but with a couple of hundred quid, a weekend break to Athens for when they play there is doable. Funny to think they are the first band I've considered to see live outside the UK and Ireland (although I've yet to go to Ireland in my lifetime) but if their show this month was their first UK show ever, you never know when they'll play here again.

Pardon my yankee-ness, but what's a quid? If it's equivalent to a dollar, that's about how much in gas a trip to LA would cost me. So yeah, I don't care who it is, I'm not paying 200 or so dollars plus the ticket price to see a one night show. It doesn't matter who they are.

Aurora and Voodoo Mon Amour. I know this is repetitive, but I am jizzing in my pants over DSO's newest album.

Yeah I've known about them for almost a year now. IF you like them, you will like both Monumental Torment and Archspire.

Yep, it's a slang for pound.

If it's equivalent to a dollar, that's about how much in gas a trip to LA would cost me. So yeah, I don't care who it is, I'm not paying 200 or so dollars plus the ticket price to see a one night show. It doesn't matter who they are.

I suppose train rides to London are reasonable in your books. After all, all the big shows happen down there and only some of the good stuff happens in Manchester. Admittedly, had it not been for my sister living in London, I wouldn't have gone to as many shows down there.

I feel it's a step down from the previous album. Probably a low-key note to end the band's career this way but seeing they have a new vocalist already, they'll probably record another album despite their initial actions. The songs are still good but you feel after listening to songs like The Bleeding Baroness and Hammer of Doom from the previous album, you expect a lot more here.

coinky dinks. I was just listening to these dudes last night, along with First Fragmentary, thanks go Ghoul.

You know, a lot of the music that I still love to this fay is stuff that Ghoul showed me. I remember when he sent me every single album that Solefald had at the time, just over MSN. It took hours. So, good looks, Ghoul. thanks much.

I'm a fuckin pirate bro. Always have been, always will be. Also, one band I've been trying to get some stuff from is Dimension F3H. I've been listening to bands that combines metal with industrial style stuff lately, and these seem to be just what I'm looking for.

Death Magic Doom is a really good record from them. Maybe some tracks are a miss but from post-80s, it's a highlight. Another thing about Psalms for the Dead, beware of the time rant on the last track. Easy WTF metal song right there.

I think Ghoul sent me one of the old Pantera albums ages ago. I never listened to it because I'm damn lazy when it comes to music downloads.

Another new Baroness track. Now we be assured that the band is indeed getting poppier. Not a terrible thing, but I will miss the more aggressive sound. This track is pretty cool, but Take My Bones is better imo.

Did he try to get you on Savatage as well? That was how I got into them, particularly Hall of the Mountain King.

I am a fan, but man they were inconsistent as fuck. Streets was terrible and so was Dead Winter Dead, yet Hall of the Mountain King and Edge of Thorns were great. I wonder what gives.

True. I still kinda liked Dead Winter Dead even though it wasn't really "great." Guilty pleasure I guess. But for anyone who hasn't checked out Savatage, listen to the albums Sirens, The Dungeons Are Calling, and Hall of the Mountain King. These three are absolute classics. Even though they are kinda inconsistent (avoid Fight for the Rock like it is the plague), they have produced more good or great albums than bad ones.

Yep, that he did. Isn't Hall of the Mountain King their most popular album?

Anyway, I'm not that into Savatage. I just like TSO's covers of classical songs.

I have half of their albums and would probably get them all due to the remaster collection. I have Sirens (with The Dungeons Are Calling), Hall of the Mountain King and Gutter Ballet (both non-remaster), Edge of Thorns, The Wake of Magellan and Poets and Madmen. That leaves me with Power of the Night, Fight for the Rock, Streets, Handful of Rain and Dead Winter Dead. I believe there are two live albums from the remaster collection as well so I'll pick them up somewhere down the road.

I can admit to Savatage's inconsistency, although I suppose I listen to worse bands in terms of their consistency/stability. Hall of the Mountain King is easily a metal example but then you look at Gutter Ballet and the turn seems very sudden. It has good moments for sure but it feels like an afterthought from Hall of the Mountain King. I'm going to confess to you all and say that I don't understand Edge of Thorns. I'm not sure what makes this album a masterpiece to others. I'd like to see that reasoning just so I can see the album from the right perspective. From post-Criss Oliva era, I actually enjoy The Wake of Magellan and Poets and Madmen. The last album they did actually has a fair amount of good moments so I'd say it's worth checking out.

I liked Edge of Thorns because it combined elements of their new sound (newfound melodiousness, dramatic presentation) with elements of their old sound, like faster tempos and pugilistic riffs. It must be stated that I didn't really enjoy Edge of Thorns until I had a coke filled night about 3 and a half years back where that was one of the CD's in the CD player. Songs like Miles Away and Lights Out are straight headbangers, but they're gleefully happy as well.
