For some odd reasons, I didn't get into Death early in my Metalhead career, and even then... I've only listenned to the album The Sound Of Perseverance. But recently I've started listenning to the album Human, which is pretty fuckin' nice :) And I was just wondering... According to you guys, which album should I get next ?
Spiritual healing but I'm probably in the minority on that one.

I almost saw one in a high street shop. Although, it was just the label in the music section stating they had some Manilla Road at one point. At least they have stocked them in.
you got 16 albums at once! what did you get?!?!? o_O
Not really all at once. I got a batch of CDs from one eBay seller and I bought a bunch of stuff from HMV so it all crashed together. The following albums I have listening to right now are:
Agent Steel - Skeptics Apocalypse
Candlemass - From the 13th Sun
Alice Cooper - Brutal Planet + Dragontown
Iced Earth - Dystopia
Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
Yngwie Malmsteen - Magnum Opus
Moonsorrow - Tulimyrsky
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked
Overkill - Feel the Fire
Racer X - Technical Difficulties
Scorpions - Lovedrive
Skid Row - Slave to the Grind
Sonata Arctica - Stones Grow Her Name
Storm Corrosion - Storm Corrosion
Testament - The New Order
Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry
oh yeah i forgot this is going to be Candlemass' last album...
do you know if they set a release date for Cathedral's album?
First week or two of June.

I really like both Symbolic and Individual Thought Patterns. Those are both great metal albums. Also, Scream Bloody Gore should be mandatory simply because of its influence on the death metal scene.

I guess I'll add Thormenthor to my list of bands to get more into and/or from which to get albums.

Every album they've ever made rocks. But, to start, since you liked those so much, I'd go with Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic.

well whenever i go to stores they dont even have a thing for Manilla Road so i highly doubt they've ever sold em there...
Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
you got In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida O: cd or vinyl? i got a copy of it on vinyl at a garage sale for $1 :3
i also got Kiss Alive! for $1 too...the person who was selling the vinyls had each of em for sale for $1

ah okay. thanks im looking forward to hearing it :3
Scream Bloody Gore is a must, really. If it isn't one of the albums that got you in to death metal, then chances are you had a pretty faulty start.

I've read a lot of bad things about Scream Bloody Gore. These critics coming from Death fans, I feel there must be something true about them. Is the album really worth it other than for historic value ?
For the moment, I'll get Individual Thought Patterns, Spiritual Healing and Symbolic. I might get SBG later. Except if Dalnaki drops by and convince me once again that it sucks monkey balls and that I should stay away from it :P (kiddin').

Dal actually likes Scream Bloody Gore. The reason I can see some Death fans not like it is because it is not nearly as technical as their later stuff, it's more of a thrashy style. Basically, it's really not like anything Death did later. It is very primitive compared to their stuff.

Hey guys, I don't have a specific matter to discuss with you guys right now, but I'm going to hit 10k posts with this one post I am writting right now, and I felt this was the best place to leave this historic post. I've been a member of Newgrounds for quite a while, but what keeps me coming back all the time is this club, The Metal Hell, in which I've learned, shared and discussed so many bands with very interresting and intelligent fellows. I have shared a passion with you guys for a few years now and I only felt it was appropriate for me to celebrate this moment of my Newgrounds Member career (lulz) with you.
Thanks for being so awesome, and I really mean it. I've had fun discussing music with every single of you guys, even those who hate me and think I'm a dickhole.
Thanks to you guys :)

I've never heard a Death fan that hated Scream Bloody Gore, EVER. Perhaps they preferred the later material, but never hated. I've gotta meet said critics just to know they exist.
Scream Bloody Gore may not appease to you if you don't like thrash or old school death metal much. But if you do, it will likely end up a treat. It's raw, energetic, primitive, 4/4, gory, dirty, death metal. If that's not your bag, don't bother. Tbh, I don't know how to explain it to you really. You probably won't like it as much as me, because well, it was one of my first death metal albums. It made it DM click for me.
And thank you Duff. It's been a pleasure to read your posts, regardless if I agreed with them or not.
To tell you all the truth, I have yet to listen to Scream Bloody Gore. That and Spiritual Healing are the only Death albums I'm missing.

It'll have to be a really big shop to even see any of their stuff. The HMV shop in London is the biggest store in terms of music shops in the UK. Now if only Amazon could be on high street shops. :P

I got it on CD. Saw it in London and thought I should pick it up. It's one of those albums I keep delaying myself to get so it was about time.

its a good album
i mean NOT just for In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, the rest of the songs are good too :3

If you read the reviews on Metal Archives, some of them are quite negative. One of the guys who gave it a low score also insists that he his a Death fan.

I know what you mean. The other songs are worth hearing but the real highlight is of course the title track. That song is so big that it came to the point of being parodied on The Simpsons (one of the very few songs from the show that I actually like).

Taking that with a grain of salt, of course.

i can agree on that. its a pretty epic song :3
but my dad freaks out whenever i take out my copy of it because i play it REALLY loud
i even went and learned a good sized chunk of it too. granted its not all that hard...but i didn't learn the part during that long fucking drum solo xD
So, now that we are about halfway through the year, are there any upcoming albums that have you really excited? For me, at the top of my list is the new Voivod album. I'm looking forward to the Ihsahn album and Kreator's new one as well. Gojira's new album seems to be shaping up to be good. Ex Deo has the potential to be decent, as does the new Ensiferum. And, if Jari is telling the truth, Time might actually be dropping this year too.

there are others but i can't think of em at the moment...
By now, a lot of you guys probably know the American band Abigail Williams. I have to talk about them yet again because they never cease to surprise me. This band has started out back in 2006 with the release of their first EP as a Symphonic Black Metal/Metalcore band, or what some refer to as Blackcore. With their second album In The Shadow Of A Thousand Sun, they have focused more on the Symphomic Black Metal elements, but keeping the agressivity, speed, drums and some riffs and melodies from the "core" genres. Their third release, In the Absence of Light was very strange to me. Because when they released it in 2010, I really was expecting them to retain their core elements, or some of them at least, but what we received was more of an Emperor worship album. The core elements are almost gone, and the symphonic elements, are somewhat tuned down.
To me, this band was always awesome. I know that some, even in the Metal Hell follow the Metalcore hating dogma that has become a tradition amongs metalheads. But this band, was never a trend follower. It seems that the band's leader and frontman Ken Sorceron has a deep love for bands from various horizons and he just does whatever he wants. And he does it well. This band as never sounded anything like a mallcore band that tries hard to break through and take advantage of the trend. I really wasn't expecting what I heard when I picked up their last album, Becoming. They released this LP at the beginning of the year and it just blew my mind again. This new material isn't anything like they've done before. They have dropped most symphonic elements, retained the keyboards of course, but they changed the production and oriented their writting toward Atmospheric Black Metal and Post-Rock. And well, it doesn't suck. This album really isn't half bad.
Some of the people who used to hate Abigail Williams have given it pretty good reviews. I suggest you guys give it a listen. It's worth it, even just for curiosity value.

I agree with Ihsahn and Ensiferum. There's also a new Vital Remains album coming up, Torma Zen. Rush, Dying Fetus, Nile, all coming out with a new album.

Still waiting for fucking Novembre to put something out. After all this time, it had better be a masterpiece. I think Kalmah will put something out this year since they're writing. Katatonia will have their next in a few months. I think Ammonal, maybe Be'Lakor, Firewind, Paradise Lost I'm not sure if it's out yet, Testament, and yea that's all I think.

The new Kreator album will be with me in a few days time which is well before the UK release date! Ensiferum's new album is a must, even if I've yet to hear a single thing. Hellwell's album (Manilla Road's side project) is something to look into as well and is due for August release. You've got new Candlemass next month as well as Rush, new Nile, Baroness and Testament in July and September is looking too far ahead as hardly anything has been confirmed for the last four months. At least from the looks of things the year is picking up a lot more now. 2012 has had a very slow start whereas 2011 kicked off very well.
I wrote a short recap for this years Rock Hard Festival.
A short summary: Bolt Thrower are fucking great and Graveyard are pretty good as well.

You may be right. The only albums I have from 2012 are Cadaveria's Horror Metal and Goatwhore's Blood For My Master. I plan on getting Korpiklaani's Manala, though.

All the Death albums are great, but ultimately ITP is easily my favorite and Symbolic + TSoP are easily my least favorite. :)
Anywho, I saw Rhapsody of Fire and Voyager on Sunday! And all I have to tell you is... A FUCKING MAZING.
That is all.
