Very good news for me today :) I have received by mail the Godspeed You! Black Emperor album Raise Your Skinny Fists like Antennas to Heaven. I really can't wait to listen to this. They aren't a Metal band, but everybody from the Metal Hell should know them, for they are one of the best bands in the world.

Great list, I myself really enjoy Sombres Forêts, Forteresse and Peste Noire. As for the other bands you have listed, they all fit our expectations. Welcome to the Metal Hell :)

Awesome. I really dont know many that know Sombres or Forteresse, im glad they have some fans.
Where do I start?
First of all, I play in several metal bands.
Here are the two that actually have music up:
CASKET (Extreme Heavy Metal)
DESTRUCITY (Avant Garde/Mathcore/Grindcore)
Secondly; favorite bands (right now):
1. Deicide
2. Mayhem
3. Lightning Swords of Death
4. Superjoint Ritual
5. Napalm Death
Thirdly; favorite songs (right now):
1. Revocate the Agitator by Deicide
2. Invoking the Desolate One by Lightning Swords of Death
3. Taking A Page or Two From The Book of Armed and Radical Pagans by Superjoint Ritual
4. Unfit Earth by Napalm Death
5. De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas by Mayhem
And I think that covers it :P

Fuck yeah downloading now.
Oh, and here's a pic of me recently:
Metal as anything. Thats crazy about going to jail man, just awful. I've been in a band called Troll for a few years now. And I've lost all my Shores of Sheol, maybe you can send me some?
I didn't realize you were in jail, Ghoul. I remember you telling me about being under house arrest. Well, it's good to see you posting. By the way, have you heard the new Solefald? It's tits.

Yea I was down for a couple years. Now I'm back, and no, I haven't heard the new Solefald, just everything up to and including Red For Fire and Black For Death

I enjoyed that album, even more than his previous albums (although I enjoy those as well). Sure, it's nowhere near the same music, but Jon's ideals are stronger than ever in Reinkaos. So I suppose I like the spirit of the album more than the music itself, but spirit is a huge part of music if you ask me.

If you know them you probably also know both Miserere Luminis and Gris. If you don't check them out. Miserere Luminis is a side-project developped in collaboration between Gris and Sombre Forêts. Gris makes very sad, depressing, painful and yet beautiful music.
....Did someone just say that Reinkaos was a piece of shit? O_O like hell it wasn't!
I love that album!

We seem to be on equal ground here. Some notable artists I have that I don't see in your library. I'm still on the traditional metal binge but some of my best discoveries over the last three years are Slough Feg and Manilla Road.
Mael Mordha
I have Cluain Tarbh from them, even though the cutting of the tracks is really awful. That saying, it does have that awesome folky instrumental Tá Mael Mórdha ag Teacht.

I may not be a Zelda fanatic (although the N64 games are the shit) but I will recognise that song anywhere no matter how long it's been since I last played the games.

I love that album as well. Have you heard his previous albums though? The only thing they seem to have in common is Jon himself, so fans of "old" Dissection tend to not like "new" Dissection at all. It's understandable really, but I feel that if someone truly appreciated what Jon was doing early on, they can appreciate Reinkaos just as much, if not even more.
4/20
my first official release came out today.
know you guys won't give a damn considering it is not metal.
anyway i'm pretty proud of it considering I only started this project around January.
lot more in the works now..some in this vein maybe as well as more work like i did with Infinite Torture.
Talked with him today and he wants to do more so i will keep ya posted.
Also, looks like i will be playing in Chicago this Summer with a friend..cool, first time on stage in almost 20 years.
shit is happening now...have a friend wanting to do my logo as well as a possible collaboration.
recording this weekend.
anyway here's my first "Official" release with a lot more coming.
First official release...it's free

I just didn't like Reinkaos because it was completely unoriginal and completely uninteresting to me. Plus I don't really like Tomas Asklund as a drummer. He's robotic as fuck and his drumming always overpowers everything else and sounds like mechanically robotic shit. Still, I just found Reinkaos to be not terribly bad, but boring and unoriginal. Perhaps if Jon spent more time on the music and less on the batshit-insane lyrics.

I have to agree on the drummer, I don't like him much either. You're also right about the music not being very original, so I suppose I'm more of a Jon Nodtveidt fan than a Dissection fan. I love the lyrics on Reinkaos.
I don't know about you but after six years of listening to metal, the anger and aggression Devin executed with Strapping Young Lad still hasn't been topped from what I've listened to from everything else. Six years and SYL's music still sounds as angry as I originally recalled it. Shame the band is no more but I welcome Devin's newer works nonetheless.

I will look into it. I do want to get more of their stuff since I believe there's a lot of potential from them. I think I've covered myself for Irish metal well so far but more wouldn't hurt.
OMG that guy that no one remembers is back... again
Hello Hellians, its been a long time.. well 2010 to be exact.
How are we all? and WHAT have we been listening to?
In truth I have gone a bit soft... well I have been listening to a lot of Type O Negative, Poisonblack and Woods of Ypres. To those that have a Gothic persuasion I high recommend the new Woods of Ypres album, Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light (although there are plenty of other influences in there too).
I must say I do feel like I am missing some gut wrenching Death Metal, nothing too melodic mind you. Any recommendations?

Yeah I come and go. A lot.
well i guess its time for me to stop lurking this thread. Time to join
10 bands i've been listening to lately:
Finntroll
At the gates
Alestorm (for the lulz)
Wintersun
Equilibrium
Ensiferum
Soreption
Vital Remains
Fleshgod apocalypse

Oh, i also remember someone mentioning Kalmah being original. I have to object. I like the band, mostly the old stuff (especially Swamplord), but i can't say the band is overall original. Some of the songs are fucking incredible, but listen to the solo in 12 Gauge, and compare it to any early COB song. It sounds like they are trying to copy them.

You like finnish metal, don't you? You should listen to Korpiklaani.

i mostly listen to death, melodeath and black metal, and i have been listening to a lot of finnish metal lately.
I own the Karkelo album from Korpiklaani, and there is a couple of good songs in there, however i got tired of them really fast because it didn't have enough variation. :)
i get the impression that you are a black-metal fan, so my suggestion for you is: Nifrost and Svartahrid

Quite, although I have a massive power metal collection and I listen to stuff like KMFDM and The Kovenant. I have both Nifrost and Svartahrid added to my d-word list.

It's quite funny that you should mention The Kovenant. I personally know the former drummer Küth, now member of Ram-Zet. Me and my band recorded vocals for our demo which he is mixing, earlier today :) He is a really great guy.

I just can't believe that there are still people who listen to this. Every time I find a new shitty band like this I end up thinking that the boundaries of mediocrity and ridiculous won't ever be pushed further. And every time... a new horrible band proves me wrong...

Good list, as one of the Horsemen of the Metal Hell, I welcome you in !

They are very good and unique. Their latest stuff doesn't stand out quite as much as their earlier stuff though, you are right. You can easily find similarities between Kalmah's newest stuff and some other melodic death/power metal bands of today. But you can't apply this to their earlier stuff. They always had a very finnish metal feeling in their music, yes. But I don't think that takes anything from them. I can still recognize a Kalmah by ear very easily.
I can't be the only one who remembers you Charon. I might give some death recs later if I remember. I'm just posting here real quick and leaving.
The only album by Kovenant I heard was Nexus Polaris, back when they were the Covenant. Nexus Polaris was awesome.
And I never heard Reinkaos, but was never really interested. I only heard Storm of the Light's Bane, which was pretty good.

I agree with Duff, Kalmah is very easily recognizable, although I haven't listened to their newest album too many times yet. Their melodies are extremely catchy, so it wouldn't be surprising to hear them from other bands, but Kalmah puts them together and makes them work so well with each other, with just the right amount of keyboards. Not many bands can pull that off so well, in my opinion.

The Kovenant since the name change is industrial metal, really cool stuff to dance to.

And what about, melodic enough ?
Mirrorthrone - De l'Ão/oochec Et De Son Essentialité [Point 1. Marginalité Démystifiée]
Mirrorthrone is one of these great Death Metal bands that do not fall under the "Melodeath" category for they really are just a Death Metal band with symphonic and melodic elements. Some people call them Atmospheric Death Metal for their lenghty tracks and sometimes immersive and spacey (not the best term, but I'll use it as I can't seem to find a better one right now) feel. This is a fantastic band you wouldn't want to miss out !

Kalmah managed to reinvite themselves with every album they released back in the 90's. They Will Return is very much oriented toward the keyboard and guitar leads and alternance between these two, while Swampsong is more about guitar leads and rhythms matching perfectly together. Swamplord is a mix of both, but oriented more toward a darker ambience that kind of reminds me of black metal or sbm. These guys are incredible :)
