Well, this is really nagging me. When I look at my archive of bands, I don't have any bands that start with the letter Y. Anyone have any good suggestions for me to check out to fill this hole?
Metal stuff?
Yngwie Malmsteen has already been named.
Not Metal stuff?
Yasunori Mitsuda is a great Japanese composer. He wrote the music of video games such as Chrono Trigger. He is amazing :)
Yann Tiersen is a French composer, if my memory is correct. He plays various instruments and wrote the soundtrack Amélie for the movie Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulin. Which is a great movie, and the soundtrack is amazing !
Yo-Yo Ma is a composer, born in Paris from Chinese parents. He his a cellist, and a great one. Fantastic classical music !

The band Yes.
Seriously, one of the greatest prog. rock bands ever.
One of my buddies promised me to borrow me one of their albums something like 3 months ago. Haven't heard anything about that since >:( I'm pissed !!
They're also known for doing oldschool death metal covers live from bands like Death, Sepultura, Cynic, Atheist, Obituary and i'm sure others as well - so if you end up going to that tour, i'd imagine you'd probably see a DM classic. :)
Interresting. There isn't enough bands doing covers. It's always cool to see a band playing tracks they like from other bands live.
Yeah, Morbid Saint got back together - they were just confirmed for Maryland Deathfest, as well as various European metal fests this summer, and are recording a new album to be released sometime this year. :)
So they really aren't touring... They just do festivals... I don't like that. But a new album, if it sounds like their old stuff, it will be one of the best albums of the year. If they try to "get modern" and play some semi-thrashing semi-heavy-chugging... then I will hunt them down, kill them and destroy every single copy of the album... physical and digital.
Sepultura:
80's Sepultura = pretty good oldschool death metal, bordering on thrash.
Arise(1991) and Chaos A.D.(1993) = Oldschool death metal MASTERPIECES
Roots(1996) = Very bizzarre and weird, but still pretty good - especially if you enjoy really strange music. Also had guest appearances of people like Les Claypool, Mike Patton and some of the guys from Korn.
POST-Roots Sepultura = Not even worth listening to. Basically they were NU metal for a few albums, and their most recent stuff is just HORRIBLY generic death metal failing to recreate their original sound.
Thanks for the info. That's always useful when getting into a band with a wide discography. Thanks.
Death Angel: Classic thrash metal band, their first three albums are classics(Act III is my favorite of them), and they've released three albums in the 00's - but all three of them are horribly generic and boring IMO.
K.
Havok: Newschool thrash metal band, one of the few REALLY worth listening to. Along with Vektor, Diamond Plate, Lich King, Warbringer, Mantic Ritual, etc.
What do you mean exactly by Newschool? Something like Modern Thrash Metal, I suppose. I'll check them out :)
Ulcerate: I can't describe these guys, so i'm going to use a quote I found to describe them...
This is probably the one I am going to start with. I kind of grew out of Death Metal for some reason... or maybe it's just a phase. But anyway, if there exist bands with a very unique touch in the genre, I would really like to get into them.
Thanks for the infos, brah!

Tell us if you get a chance to talk to her. I'd like to know how things turn out for you.
Good luck with all that's going on in your life right now.

What's your first thought when you hear this?
I'm not impressed. But for a chugcore band, they aren't as annoying as I thought they would be. In fact, I'm surprised emo with fringes like them. They do not even inhale scream like angry 13 years old twats, they don't pig sqeal, they don't get into silly build-ups that leads to generic breakdowns... or maybe that's just cause you chose the best of their songs. I will check them out a little more sometime soon to see if they have interresting material.

While some of us are lacking Y artists, how about Z artists?
I only have two bands with a name starting with Z in my library. In fact, I only have one song by each, and I don't even listen to these frequently. One is named Zyklon, which is according to Metal Archives, an Industrial Death/Black Metal band. Whatever the fuck that means :P And the other band is one of the bands who took part into the tribute album to Ulver named My Own Wolf - A New Approach to Ulver. The band is named Zweizz, a name that would give you a shitload of points if you played Scrabble (and before some douche tells me proper names aren't allowed in Scrabble... I know!) The band plays Ambient music.

Yngwie Malmsteen
Does he really count? I count as him under M for his surname.
I'd say yes. While he's an individual, didn't the band tour under his name? If the name represents the whole band, would that make it count?

Same here. I only know of Xasthur.

ok, um, let's see...
my favorite bands are system of a down, slipknot, red hot, ramstein, bullets for my valentine, iron, and metalika and some dubstep :D
I will complete the post of my comrade Bahamut. System Of A Down, Slipknot and Rammstein, all fall under a genre named Nu-Metal. Which is for various reasons, not considered Metal, at least by people from the Metal Hell. Bullet For My Valentine is Metalcore band. all "core" genres and sub-genres do not fit our requirements. Red Hot Chili Peppers is a Funk/Rock band, but Metallica and Iron Maiden both fit the requirements. If you have 8 more actual metal bands to list, we will accept you in. Otherwise, I think you should either lurk around and try to listen to some of the bands we discuss or join clubs that fit your personnal tastes better. There is an Iron Maiden club, a Metallica club (is there... not sure anymore...), there is a Nu-Metal/Metalcore Crew and a Dubstep club. More than enough clubs that fit your tastes can be found on Newgrounds.
