Here in Maryland we have a decent stoner/doom scene scattered far and wide, gathering for Death Fest every year. Around the time of Vitus, we had a huge doom scene. It's gone for the most part, but a know a few old musicians/groupies from the scene. In my school theres a few NWOBHM fans and this one guy who likes Sepultura. I don't know much else here. Core and screamo aren't really big around here (at least where I live). Nu metal is still pretty big, but it's not a fad like some think. They just like what they like, and don't give a shit about stuff being metal or not.

Well what the fuck? I didn't even know about that.
So, I guess Screamo or whatever is big in the U.S.? You find a lot of Black Metal fans where I live.

All the bands I want to see seem to skip us, or if they do they play at a 21 or older club. I've missed out on a lot of great concerts that way. Hell, Mastodon was here with Red Fang for pretty good prices, but only at the 21+ place. GAH! Is quite infuriating.I'm 22, so I don't give a fuck :)
Oh wait, I live in Quebec, so legal age is 18. So I've been not giving a fuck for 4 years already. Life is sweet :)
Legal drinking age is 18 here as well. Still, some concerts are 20+ for whatever reason. I wanted to see Kylesa as they're coming to town, but no...
Yeah, there's not much in the way of metal bands in the towns around my area, as far as I know. All I know is there was Morpheus Descends in the 90's and I still haven't listened to them. There's also Downfire, which I've also never heard. One of the drummers from Skid Row, the guy from the late 80's through most of the 90's, was originally from a nearby town, actually the town where I get my weed. I never listened to Skid Row before, though. In my actual home town, there was a thrash band back in the early 90's called Fragment Experiment. They only had one demo with three tracks. However, the drummer went on to join Shadow Gallery.

He said posting Blue Cheer is cheating, so by posting Randy Holden, I guess you were cheating at not cheating. :p
One of my friends of Fagbook just shared this with me and i thought some people might be interested.
I am lovin' me some Retro Haze .

Randy Holden did play on Blue Cheer's third album. But they are two different bands so... not cheating.

I live in Mexico, so legal age is 18 too.
I have 21 years and i can go to any fucking concert and drink till i die \m/

There are a fair amount of metal fans around here. However, the ones I've easily found at a local bar have music where they play too much of Slipknot and such and so many are on stage for it. At least good music will be played, even if I have to go through a bunch of metalcore just to hear the better stuff there.

I would have thought you'd have at least checked out Paranoid. Yes, that is one fantastic record of theirs but Master of Reality will always be my best Sabbath album.I did. Paranoid is the one I already checked into. But not in depth. I'm not expert of this album :P I will also check out Master of Reality if you say it's good.
I find Black Sabbath albums to be better as time goes.
Oh yeah, I'm glad I did have a look back at my overall library. Better decide which 60s artists I should explore. All I have from the 60's is music by the Beach Boys and Stevie Wonder.
Eh, can't say I'm keen on Beach Boys. Stevie Wonder on the other hand, his name is obviously familiar but his songs I don't recognise by name.
GAAH!! Speaking of concert woes, Vektor announced tourdates....and they are all on the west coast. And they are with some pretty good bands. Absu (whose last album made my top 10) and Abigail Williams? GAAH! I want to see this show!

Here in Pittsburgh there used to be a DM scene in the 80s/90s. I don't know much about it other than bands like Dream Death, Nunslaughter and Rottrevore, and a few bands that I can't remember the name of and/or never released anything. There's also a punk scene, but I don't know anything about it.

Well then how about some Blues Creation?

Same here. There's ONE bar that plays hard rock/metal every once in a while. But they keep playing the same shitty songs over and over again. Worst of all: If I go out with some of my friends, they want to hang out on another floor, where all they play is EBM and Gothic stuff. I do enjoy some goth music every once in a while, but it's hard to endure that for a whole evening...

Does anyone know of any ragin' angry metal that's really heavy and mid-to-fast-paced similar to Metallica's Justice album or Testament's Formation of Damnation album, or Paradise Lost's Faith Divides album. I'm talking riff-o-rama and barking vocals.

Skeletonwitch and Toxic Holocaust match that description, unless you're looking for a bit slower.

A bit less trashin' and melody. More jamming kind.

From this point I was going to recommand Balrog

But it's not a good recommandation...

cool. It's too bad they're not together anymore, but at least I know there was at least one good death metal band that originated within a few minutes (by car) from me.

So, I've been listening to stuff off the new Lamb of God album, and I'm coming back pleasantly surprised. It is actually pretty awesome. While I know the Hell isn't a huge fan of them, their new album is shaping up to be pretty good, so I suggest checking it out.

I hate that feeling when I'm looking for new albums and I find an album that totally should have belonged in my Top 10 of the year. I just encountered that when I found Torchbearer's Death Meditations. It is a phenomenal melodeath album with some cool thrash elements. I suggest everyone check these guys out!

But, thanks Bahamut for recommanding Master Of Reality by Black Sabbath. I'm really enjoying it so far :) Listenning to the whole thing also reminded me about that stupid post WallOfYawn did in the Stoner Club. I can't believe the kid won't understand that these guys have created a whole new musical genre. Listenning to an album like Master Of Reality, which was released in 1971, really made me and my girlfriend think about stuff like Electric Wizard and Bongripper. Yup, Doom Metal is a legitimate musical genre, and it was since day one!
