The place is kind of dead isn't it? I want to talk about some metal stuff, but there are not much discussions going on.

If you feel like giving me recommandations, do so please.

I would like to find some good prog metal. Maybe some avant-garde or prog black. Maybe some stuff that would ressemble Kvelertak if that even exists. Or maybe some death or black metal mixed with other genres of music like Cynic does or like Infernal Stronghold does or maybe some Crossover.

I'd like to get some spacey stuff like Portal or Cynic. And maybe some good Power Metal... nothing cheesy... Stuff like Labyrinth if you will.

I was not using the word hardcore as in the genre name, if you couldn't tell.

The fuck? That huge list I just posted. Not much was really " prog " but I still quite enjoy those bands. Especially Lust, raw black metal. The vocals are lulzy.

Care to elaborate these bands? And like you said, I'm asking for something more specific, but I wouldn't mind listenning to some raw black metal.

Well I think " riffy " would describe most of them. Its not just the same song every time. I mean with other bands I just hear straight 16th notes and constant blast beats and think " oh I haven't heard THIS song before ". But it seems pretty unique. I think you'd like Infestus, their album ExIst more specifically. And Negative plane check out stained glass revelations and go from there.

And like you said, I'm asking for something more specific, but I wouldn't mind listenning to some raw black metal.

Well yeah its not all raw black metal, the death metal portion of that list is pretty much all " old school"

Hey all.

Uncle Igott reporting in.

Been getting heavily into Melvins and Ministry.

Still going for American Hardcore like Black Flag or the Crucifucks.

When's Bolt Thrower touring the US? They fucking need to tour the US.

Also, is it me or do Power Metal bands feel the same? Like Dragonland and Epica.

What a shame, Mister Jensen.

You have to find the right bands. Even someone who enjoys power metal such as myself finds there to be too much generic crap. One power metal band I'd like to recommend is Battleroar.

Not as bad as you'd think. The album is definitely a step up from Dark Passion Play. Still not great, but definitely decent. The only thing I dislike about it, is the HORRENDOUS guitar playing / guitar tone. Everything else is pretty good, all things considered.

5- Ghost Brigade - Until Fear No Longer Defines Us
6- Insomnium - One For Sorrow

Amazing albums.

10- Turisas - Stand Up & Fight

Why in the first place?

2- In Flames - Sounds of a Playground Fading

In flames are great but since their third or second album they change a lot of their sound.
This album (for me) is their worst

:6- Insomnium - One For Sorrow
One more awesome album from Insomnium

Update after hanging with my bro, Pantera.

He showed me a couple gems:

Dr. Livingdead
Lich King
Hypocrisy
Onslaught and
Sign of The Southern Cross, to name a few.

Plus, he introduced me to Agrotech, which sounds pretty fucking industrial. Namely X-Fusion.

Also, I was able to find:
Sorcery
Wombbath

Keep hard, heavy and loyal.

If Dragonland and Epica feel the same to you, then you should go die a slow painful death.

Epica is hugely influenced by 90's death metal and it reflects GREATLY in their music, hell Mark Jansen(Their male vocalist, one of their guitarists and pretty much their main song writer) has another band called MaYan which is just death metal. Sure Epica have epic lyrics and keyboards/orchestra, but so what? So does Dimmu Borgir. Epica is NOT power metal. Mark Jansen even goes as far as to say that Kamelot is pretty much the only power metal band that influences them in any way, shape or form.

Dragonland is symphonic and epic, but in completely different ways. Epica's epic keyboards/orchestra isn't based on being epic, it's all intentional for the music to portray sorrow and emotion and is generally way more well-constructed. Dragonland is more epic for the sake of being epic. As for the guitars/bass/drums and the vocals and the lyrics, they're clearly more power metal.

At the end of the day, if Dragonland and Epica sound the same to you, then chances are you should kill yourself because ABBA and Opeth probably sound the same to you as well.

All great bands. I'm good friends with the singer of Lich King, they're from my state and still pretty local - even if they've kind of virally exploded amongst thrashers and punks.

Whoa, whoa, calm down there. Sure, the styles are different, and no, they don't SOUND the same. They just have the same feeling, you know what I'm saying? Bands can sound different and yet still get off with a similar feeling. Like Blood On Ice by Bathory and Gods Of War by Manowar.

And no, ABBA and Opeth don't sound the same to me. You really didn't have to go into a tizzy.

Now if I was to say that Epica sounded like another band, then I would say that they have a lot of structrual likenesses with Therion.

Those bands really give me that feeling.
Maybe it's the key.

Super fast, technical and happy songs about dragons.

Mid-tempo, depressing and borderline death metal songs about things like death, existence, how much religion is a lie and quantum physics.
