True, but there are few that even come close to how good Neil Peart is.

But seriously, Lars is the right drummer for Metallica. It's not about how "awesome" someone is at something, it's what you make of the talent that you have. And in that aspect Lars has done everything right. ;)

Touche. I know that Lars isn't the best drummer and he can't play some of his own tunes any more, but he is the right drummer for Metalica. I just think that sometimes he can be a bit of a dick.

Christmas has been well so far, especially with getting most of the metal albums I asked for. Some family members I still need to see so I haven't received all of my presents yet. Presents aside, it's been a lot of fun speaking to my family.

I feel even on the first few albums, Lars felt off key with some of the drumming or even have poor drum settings overall. That isn't to say Ride the Lightning sucks because of it, though because it's far from bad.

Yeah, the only "true" musician was Cliff, but he died. :(
The others are good, too. Kirk has some awesome soli and James' riff's are kick-ass, too. But I think with Cliff they might have been even better.

Happy Festivus and whatnot! Finally back for a bit, its crazy how much time I wasted on here. I've gotten so much stuff done.

Xmas was metal and non metal. One present this year and it was a $300 set of pickups for my axe. They will of course be used to make death metalz.

Not much new in the metal world, saw my friends play a gig with Abigail Williams, and I met decapitated's guitarist at another concert. And as always check out Cimmerian ( the new lenox one specifically). Oh, and Dissona.

I have a list of some metal bands I listen to, but most of them, if not all of them are mainstream, and I was kinda hoping I could find some underground bands that fit my style.

System of a Down
RATM
Evans Blue
Megadeath
Anthrax
A7X
Strapping Young Lad
Testament
Lamb of God
Smashing Pumpkins

Are you asking to join? If you want to then you will have to add a few more bands to your list. System Of A Down doesn't really fit the definition we have of metal. They are a Nu-Metal band. Not bad, but not metal nonetheless. Rage Against The Machine is an hard rock band. Evans Blue is an Alternative Rock band. Megadeth is a Thrash Metal band, fine. Same for Anthrax. Avenged Sevenfold is a metalcore band, not what we are looking for. Strapping Young Lad is definitely good. It's a Death/Thrash band. Testament is a Thrash Metal band, which is ok. Lamb Of God are between Thrash Metal and Metalcore. They are on the verge, still acceptable :) And em... Smashing Pumpkins... they are an altenative rock band. Not Metal.

5 out of 10 of these bands are what we are looking for. The bands you like that we can accept are all linked to Thrash Metal. So my recommandations...

If you like Strapping Young Lad, you might like the other bands of Guitarist/Keyboardist/Vocalist Devin Townsend. His other projects are Devin Townsend and Devin Townsend Project. Great stuff.

If you like Megadeth and Anthrax you most likely already know or like bands like Slayer and Metallica. These four bands are considered the first four bands of Thrash Metal, commonly known as the Big Four.

For more Thrash Metal, check out bands like Kreator, Meanstreak, Watchtower, Morbid Saint and Sodom.

And some links to some of their tracks on YouTube :)

Kreator - Enemy Of God
Meanstreak - Roadkill
Watchtower - Asylum
Morbid Saint - Lock Up Your Children
Sodom - Agent Orange

Tell me if you like my recommandations or not :)

Copypasta again.

Firewind - Burning Earth
Heathen - The Evolution of Chaos
Helstar - Nosferatu
Ludicra - Fex Urbis Lex Orbis
Motörhead - The World Is Ours, Vol. 1: Everywhere Further Than Everyplace Else
Saint Vitus - Born Too Late
Devin Townsend - Ghost
Trouble - Psalm 9
Warlock - Triumph & Agony

Some of them are my sister's stuff but we listen to the same music anyway.

i got:
Red Fang - Murder The Mountains

I'll be considering getting this, even though it's not part of the winter sales. I have seen Motörhead's Bastards for £5 online so that's worth grabbing.

Okay, so after spending the vast majority of my iTunes vouchers and so forth, I now have a definitive list of the music acquired for Xmas. Some is not Metal, but who cares? Discuss, tear me a new one, do whatever you will, because I want your opinion.

Rush - Roll The Bones
Metallica - Garage Inc
Lauren Harris - Calm Before The Storm
Bruce Dickinson - Tattooed Millionaire
Alestorm - Black Sails At Midnight
The Sword - Gods Of The Earth

All in all, what I feel is a decent haul :)

Christmas was sweet. For Christmas Eve dinner, we had lobster tails, steak wrapped with bacon, baked potatoes, and broccoli. I put worcestershire sauce with tabasco on my steak, and I put sour cream on my potato and broccoli. Trust me, broccoli and baked potatoes are both awesome with sour cream. Don't knock it until you've tried it. As I've been doing for several years, I got drunk and watched Die Hard that night. And on Christmas, we had my mom's chicken broccoli casserole. It has mayonnaise, melted cheddar, and pieces of bread in it. It's delicious. We also had shrimp cocktail.

I didn't get anything really metal related, but I did get another Heavy Metal calendar. Heavy Metal as in Heavy Metal Magazine. I also got Skyrim and I'm sorry, Ani and Bahamut, but you guys are wrong. Skyrim is the most metal game ever. It's also fucking AWESOME! I stayed up way too late playing it last night. My character is a Nord named Hugrekki. He has red face paint, braids in his hair and beard, and one of his eyes is completely white with no pupil. He looks sick. I also intend to make an argonian character and have him join the Dark Brotherhood.

My only problem so far with Skyrim is the fact that you can't block when you're dual wielding. Does the left bumper ever do anything? Because if not, then they could have made that the block button. But if it does ever do something, then never mind.

None of those are metal. I've never heard of Evan's Blue, but it definitely does not sound like it would be a metal band.

But since you mentioned a few thrash bands, I'd recommend Coroner, Voivod, early Exodus, Tankard, Sodom, Watchtower, early Kreator, and Vektor. Also, it's pretty much death metal and not thrash, but it still has a pretty thrashy sound, I recommend Morbid Saint. Also, I have a feeling you'd dig Mastodon. They're not thrash, but they rule.

I forgot to mention that I also got a drum set for Christmas. It's used, and whoever owned it beat the fuck out of the snare, but it works...mostly. My mom's boyfriend is supposedly going to give me some bits of his set. I'm hoping he'll part with a bass drum and a pedal. What I got isn't a double bass setup, which is what I would want. Also, the hi hat sucks. It was free, though, so, you know, sweet. I just wish I had a digital drum set that I could keep in my room for more practicing. I'm not good at playing a drum set. I am pretty sick at hand drums, though. I have a bongo and a really nice, expensive djembe with cool African looking artwork all over it. It's beautiful.

Well for christmas I got a Blueray/DVD Player, $350 in Gift Cards/Cash, Season 1 of Workaholics, and an Avenged Sevenfold shirt..... but there is really one problem here.... THE FUCKING AVENGED SEVENFOLD SHIRT I NEVER ASKED FOR OR WOULD WANT!!!!! BLAH!!!!
Of course it was returned to none other than Hot Topic and now I'm stuck with a $22 gift card for a store

I have to interest to buy from. I looked through their horrible CD collection only to find garbage or Mastodons new The Hunter which I already have. Their shirt collection for metal which of course was in the back corner of the store and had a very limited selection of choices wasn't worth buying.

I remember when Hot Topic was actually a store I would want to check out when I was 12 since it had a decent selection of stuff I would want and just the thought of some American Eagle douche (no offense to anyone here that wears the stuff but you know what people I really mean.) actually in the store was laughable. Seriously those types would actually be hissed at by the workers (happened to my sister) and were not welcomed. Now it's just all inviting and stupid with all the Justin Bieber and Dead Mau5 crap.

SO!!!!! Yeah I really didn't get any new CD's or anything metal so yeah this post isn't really metal but what ever. Just wanted to share what I got.... and bitch about Hot Topic.

Although there are a lot of hot chicks that shop in that store.... sometimes.

It's the same as with charts music: It's simple, it doesn't require you to think and it doesn't require you to be "actively listening". Or maybe the majority of all people just have a bad taste in music.

Realistically, it's not their biggest hit. Just because it's their most popular viral song, doesn't mean it's their most popular.

In fact, I think Manowar did a poll for their most popular song and i'm pretty sure Carry On won.

Alright then, I'll ask you one simple task then - justify why System of a Down aren't Metal. What other genre can they be? They're too hard for Hard rock and if they're "Nu Metal", I don't buy that - that still is Metal, even though it's a shittier cousin of true Metal.

What's so wrong with them?

It's Nu-Metal. And after going through Linkin Park and Slipknot's discographies, we pretty much came to the conclusion that this genre doesn't have anything to do with Metal, other than having down-tuned guitars. But I see why you can support that System Of A Down are Metal. Listenning to album like Toxicity, there is some riffing on their tracks, I'm pretty sure some of you guys wished it was you who wrote these riffs, and they ressemble some Metal riffs. So what is it that makes Soad riffs not metal? Maybe it's the opinion people have of them...
