It kind of sounds like Dream Theater to me. Stuff that sounds like their heavier stuff but with a better song-writting, in my opinion.
We Horsemen do not dominate this place. We do not force our views upon anyone, Sense and Bahamut are even more welcoming than me, and I try my best to be the good and welcoming to all new members. Read through the few last pages of our history if you want a proof of this. A guy wanted to join and listed mainly Djent bands. As we didn't quite knew if we should or shouldn't accept Djent as metal, we asked him to list more bands, but to avoid the not so easily classyfiable bands so we could see if he would have fit in the Metal Hell. He got pissed, and I stayed calmed and even tried talking to him again. He never posted again.
The fact is that we do not reject any metal band when and individual lists one. If someone comes in with a list like this one: Nightwish, Nightrage, Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir... and you know the bands who are usually dissed by metalheads, we allow the person in. We do not claim that there is a better form of metal, we just want to make this place a metal club. So deathcore, nu-metal, metalcore. We do not allow. Not cause it sucks, but because it doesn't fit the club's direction and minimal requirements. If you like metal... Symphonic, Melodeath, Black Metal, Stoner Metal, Doom, Heavy, Drone, Avant-garde, Power... name them... we accept them. No matter what we allow them.
We don't have so many powers in here anyway. And we don't have coercitive power over the others. We are not superior to any other members and the title is pretty much an honorary title. It was given to us by other members. Our only role is to give the "seal of approoval" when a new guy wants to join and to try our best to give the good example.
I don't see what's so wrong about the Horsemen...
And I also don't see how we are being so rude or so unpleasant to new members or how we should be pushing anyone to leave. The only members who really "left" the Metal Hell that I remember of are Dentatus and Nev, who both expressed a lost of interest in the Metal Hell and Newgrounds in general. The others who "leave" are usually not regulars who stop posting because they don't have enough interest in the club or don't feel motivated to post in the club. We often allow people in here and they never post again. Why? Because we have been rude when allowing them in? I just... doubt it... seriously... I need to understand how we are being so unpleasant to others...
And about the Horsemen. You cannot simply tell us we aren't Horsemen anymore. If the Horsemen themselves want to abolish the title, then we shall do it. Or if the majority of the members of the Hell feel that the title should be abolished, then we shall give it up. Until then...

Does it seem to anyone else that now that 'djent' is taking over as the latest hip metal trend to hate that metalheads are becoming more accepting towards metalcore? I mean not only do I see bands like Veil of Maya and Born of Osiris now being accepted into the metal archives, they are actually getting staggeringly good reviews.
You may have come up with the idea, but Duff and I aren't with that. We need to make sure new people actually listen to metal. Having them list ten bands is a good custom that we should keep. We don't want this filling up with posts about metalcore/nu-metal and the like. There aren't too many places to talk about just metal. I don't want this place being the same way.
hmm. the guitarist from Fates Warning having a side project with the former vocalist of Fates Warning. I didn't know about this. Actually, looking at their page, its also the other current guitarist and the current bassist. I only knew Jim Matheos and John Arch by name. And they have Bobby Jarzombek? sweet. wait...Jarzombek is with Fates Warning now? since '07? How did I not know this?

There's definitely more than that. What about Idio, SOAS, Ghoul, and Goatchrist? We also had Kiddi, Bonemill, Goryblizzard, 0peth, Totallyspies, Imperium, and several other regs leave.

I'm sorry, I too am against the idea of disbanding the horsemen. At least with the horsemen we can manage who are the appropriate fans. As it's been stated already, do we want this to be overrun with nu-metal/metalcore? As for the djent thing, I haven't listened to a whole lot but I'll use MA's rule of thumb with what they think of the genre. It's the safest and least complicated option.
and any fukk who wants to oppose me on it, bring it on
Here's hoping for a more civil conversation.

I'd rather the Arch / Matheos side project be under the Fates Warning moniker. They're taking ages to get back with Ray Alder to work on another Fates Warning and I think he has a side project to work on himself.

And only Gory is still on this site. Well, we at least see Idio every now and again.
Every five pages all I see is something whining about Horsemen this or horsemen that.
Come on guys, do we need leaders at all? Really?
If we ever have flammers or anything like that, we have Bahamut or can contact other mods.
When we have people attempt to join the club, can't a simple two or three users agree to accept them in? In fact, why do we have to accept people in to begin with? Can't someone just post whenever the hell they like?
If we don't think their taste is metal, we can help educate them into metal or redirect them into the appropriate threads.
The fact that this thread has leaders at all is honestly really stupid to me.

That's what I've always been doing as a horseman. :P I may not like the genres but I do find it a shame the nu-metal/metalcore club isn't active enough when it could be beneficial to a fair amount of applicants we get.
I don't know about you guys, but the abandonment of horsemen sounds like a good idea to me. People here, beyond the occasional over-opinionated argument, seem to be able to dictate themselves in a kind and helpful manner. There's no real need for rejection anymore, because if people don't find they fit in with the lack of nu-metal/-core/(and as of recently, I guess)Djent conversation, they usually leave or change to their own discretion. And if an asshole or spammer happens to venture into Hell, whats a horseman gonna do? Report them to a mod just any other user? Besides, one of our regs is a mod.
I'm with Ani and Bill.
I agree with your proposition Bill, but godamn... Are you sure Bill is still posting?

bahamut, you are a mod, don't even need a damn mod in here so you are not needed as well
So not only do you think horsemen are also unneeded, you think I'm not needed to help the thread as well whenever we get a bit of trouble? My moderating duties are a second here and are only necessary when we get someone fucking around here whether it be a worthless troll or a regular poster. I still want to talk about metal in this thread and my only other good places to talk about metal are either on my news post or on Metal-Archives.
On a metal related note, I have posted my best of 2011 which includes honourable mentions. I know Zodir will disagree with some of the decisions but I'd like to see what he liked the most from this year.
I'm with Duff, Bahamut, and Sensey. We need at least a basic structure of leadership. Without that, it becomes sort of anarchic. Without at least a basic sense of who's in charge, stuff starts flying that we would never have accepted before. It becomes one big clusterfuck. We need people who are generally acknowledged to represent the Hell. I feel the horsemen are an integral part of the Hell. That's my two cents at least.

Well, you called that. I don't agree with Hell or Manilla Road. I was actually quite disappointed with Playground. I haven't gotten to reviewing it yet, but while it is still a good record, not Top 10 worthy. I should have mine up in about a week or two.

The thing is having designated people we know are actually able to make that call without letting mallcore kids in and such. Then, three people who don't know what they're talking about could say "yeah come and join the conversation" even people who weren't originally accepted in the first place.
The fact that this thread has leaders at all is honestly really stupid to me.
It's not like there's any authority with it. The only point of it is to have people who can be trusted to know when someone is right for this thread. It's more of a chore than anything. a simple, easy one, but yeah.

Without the ten band thing, that could eventually change, though. I like having a place to talk about real metal, and just real metal.

There is a pretty confrontational tone in your posts...all of your posts lately, towards everyone. It went without saying that it was just his opinion, but that's beside the point. You're acting hostile to everyone who disagrees with you. What's going on? This is upsetting coming from you.
THERE ARE NO MORE FUKKIN HORSEMEN...end of the discussion
Saying this over and over isn't going to end the argument. I get that you came up with the idea, but that doesn't mean it's gonna suddenly go away because you say so.
we can trust ourselves..do not need 3 stooges to try and do it for us. simple as that
What's with the insults and aggression? I'm a stooge now?
define REAL metal..come on
Slipknot, BFMV, DEP, Mudvayne, and shit, brah. The HEAVY stuff.
I don't know if you're going through some shit or what, but its pretty confusing and surprising to see you acting like this. I don't know what happened with you and Duff either, but I don't see why you're acting like this now. What is this?
You know, whatever. It's just an internet forum. If everyone else wants rid of the idea, then fuck it. I just think it's a good way to make sure the direction of the club doesn't go toward mallcore and what have you.

Jesus, Bill. I was simply stating my opinion and you attack me for it? Yeah, I can see you are in a real great state of mind here. Didn't you just have a huge long rant about how we should respect each other's opinions? Nice hypocrisy there Bill. Fuck this piece of shit iPad. Anyway, I was going to say that I think the horsemen are a good idea in the sense that it keeps the forum in order. All good, functioning forums have at least one moderator. That's what I think anyway.
Arguments with batman64's latest decisions end NOW! This shouldn't have been necessary for this thread and keeping this discussion further and further away to the point where we're not talking about heavy metal music may result in this thread being locked.

Yeah, those were the two albums I knew you wouldn't agree with considering your thoughts in this thread as well as your reviews. The fact that you say Playground of the Damned is a good album is still pleasing to hear since you must still see a fair amount of merit for it. Of course, I look forward to whenever you post that review but you still have a few Manilla Road reviews to get through first. I believe Atlantis Rising is next to cover.
get rid of horsemen.
Keep Bahamut. He's sexy and he's the only one of us who can ban douchebags.
/my opinion.
So in ACTUAL DISCUSSION news: Doom metal band, Woods Of Ypres, singer David Gold found died in a car crash.

You list is great :)
If you like Sunn O))) I suggest you listen to their project with asian band Boris named... Sunn O))) & Boris :P. They released an album named Altar. It is absolutely great. Boris is a great band. If you like Drone, you should definitely listen to their Drone albums Abolutego and Dronevil. These two albums are fantastic.
If you like Opeth and Ulver, I recommand you listen to Agalloch, especially their first full-lenght named Pale Folklore and their most recent album named Marrow Of The Spirit. They play a great mix of Black Metal, Folk Metal, Post-Rock, Neofolk and more genres. They are my absolute favorite band :)
Electric Wizard kicks major asses. If you like their work I suggest you listen to the album Satan Worshipping Doom by Bongripper. It's definitely one of my favorite Doom Metal albums ever :)
Usually you have to list 10 bands to join, but em... I think you make the cut with just these few bands.
