I'll have to check that out.
On another note I didn't know Skinless broke up in April this year. This makes me sad.

The Djenter bands out right now all came from a traditional metal background, they can play all that stuff.
Djent is metal except they turn the gain up to get a higher tone on their guitars and they play other meters besides 4/4, they also play poly rhythms. This is pushing metal forward into to a higher musical level.

You got this right, expect that you defined Progressive Metal there...
Which is kind of my problem. Djent from the very little I've heard seems to be... to me at least... is a mix of Progressive Rock, Progressive Metalcore and Progressive Metal.
But hey, were still here to argue, so tell me about that Djent stuff, I still want to learn some new shit.

I got into Djent after a drummer showed me Animals as Leaders, which isn't pure djent, but its the same concept. Bulb from Periphery supposedly is the inventor of Djent. I love his music. Also, Tesseract is a new Djent act now, they sound pretty good.

If you are going to move away from your most epic sound and leave all the glorious journey's and fantasy world... that's fine.Oh, the fantasy-like lyrics are there, they're just nothing like how they were on the Keeper albums. At times it makes me sad they changed so fast after the release of Keepers II.
I guess I'm just not a real Helloween fan. The two Keepers albums were great and I really liked their approach to more fantastic and epic power metal. The Keepers albums... are what I think about when someone says Helloween. And I think that the mental image I made of Helloween is kind of wrong. It is true that most of their stuff is kind of goofy, the titles are silly and even the music sounds humoristic...
I think I do the exact same thing whenever some mentions Dream Theater. I instantly think Images And Words and I go like "Oh yeah! Freakin awesome and legendary band!" even though I barely ever listen to anything else they wrote.
That's just me, making my own limited and personnal definition of what the band is, as opposed to what they really are.
That's just me pretending Cryptopsy is awesome... no matter how much I grew up since 1996...

What does this have to do with knock off bands?
If you want the politically correct terminalogy, Djent was coined because it makes a 'Djent' sound because of the high gain and hard picking on the guitars, while traditional metal has that low 'Chug' sound.

Most of 'Djent' is currently full of bands trying very hard to rip off the few big names that are around.

Do you call other metal genres Chug? No? Then don't call this brand of progressive metal Djent.

If there's one fault I feel the album has, it's some of the songs padding out. Plague and Fyre could have had the intro shortened and Macbeth only wants you to get to the song already. I wouldn't agree with the vocalist sounding generic since I feel he adds a lot of life to the band. As for re-using songs from the 80s, well, I think their first right choice was to get them all out at long last. I'm not sure about a second album considering how vastly different the style of the music might be in comparison but on the other hand, it could be beneficial. I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

Seriously. Fuck Andi Deris.

It's gone really sour in that timespan, to the point where bands that weren't even 'djent' started getting called it, so basically a load of bands that weren't really similar at all started being thrown under the same label and I now on't support it's use at all.

I used to be really into power metal, but not so much anymore. But there are a few albums I would recommend.
Angra - Rebirth
Angra - Temple of Shadows
Angra - Aurora Consurgens
Zandelle - Twilight on Humanity
Zandelle - Vengeance Rising
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 2
Stratovarius - Visions
Falconer - Falconer
I've never listened to any of the Angra albums with Andre Mathos from beginning to end, but I like what I've heard. It's all about Kiko, anyway. Also, those two Helloween albums are good, but the self titled and the Walls of Jericho are way better. They don't quite count as power metal, though.

The Dark Ride and Better Than Raw have some pretty good songs. Uli's talent as a drummer is really under-utilized and he mostly does the cliche power metal "do do tsch dododo tsch". If you ever hear the bonus track Moshi Moshi Shiki no Uta, you'll hear some pretty sweet drumming.
