I'm impressed you know Pyramaze actually. Is it because of their album with Matt Barlow, or their two classic pre-barlow albums?

i first heard Melancholy Beast and fell in love with it. I prefer their first two albums to Immortal.

awesome sauce. i guess i should also mention i've seen maiden live with dream theater opening, Everygrey with sabaton & powerglove & the absence, and Kyuss/monstr0/the sword
Nice!

I saw that Evergrey tour as well, only Sabaton wasn't playing the MA show for some reason. (Not that i'm complaining, I don't really like Sabaton)

Sabaton gave an amazing performance in my opinion. The crowd loved them and they loved us. They really got our adrenaline pumping and gave a hell of a show

I also saw that Kyuss tour and I saw Dream Theater play one of the two headlining shows of that summer tour without Maiden on the bill. It was easily one of the best shows i've ever attended.

seeing Kyuss was like a dream come true for me. you remember montsr0 playing? i thought they were pretty good rock but i cant remember much from it. does anyone care to recommend stuff from them

Same. Immortal isn't bad, it just isn't... pyramaze. Eh.

I'm sure they did. I just personally don't like their music. hahaha

Same here. I've been into Kyuss for years.

Yeah, they were pretty fucking kickass sludge metal / stoner rock. I haven't checked them out on recording yet, but MonstrO definitely will be worth my time to look into.

DEP ain't always all that bad

MonstrO was one of the bands playing at a show I went to recently and they were really good. I'd say I'm a new fan. Also, if it weren't for their bassist lending me a marker, I may not have gotten the autographs of the dude s from Black Tusk.

As far as recommendations, they only have one full length album, which was released this year. I think they might have an ep/demo or two, but I'd just get the new album. It probably has all the stuff you would have heard live.

nice lineup. All of those bands are good, especially Kylesa.

I've posted yet two more reviews for the site. They are Candlemass' Nightfall and The Dead Resurrected's EP (new band who I saw supporting Slough Feg in August). I've got the Devin Townsend live show written up as well as another album review next Monday. I'm also considering writing a review for Megadeth's Th1rt3en seeing as it's a recent hot release.

Probably the blandest and most uninspired "prog" band of all time.

And they're not really metal either. They're closer to core than metal.

The only way for me to know is to listen to them myself. I may find a little something to enjoy them or I may not. We'll see.

To tell you the truth, I've yet to hear Ghost. I would have bought it at the merchandise but they didn't have them signed by Devin. I decided to go with Addicted instead.
I gotcha, yeah. Ghost is gorgeous.

I may have to break my little rule for Christmas with asking for CDs by artists who I have not looked into very well and ask for some Devin Townsend. I suppose if I'm going to ask for a second Devin Townsend album, I should give Ocean Machine a shot.

What was the devin setlist like? Besides Deconstruction in entirety, obviously.

The encore consisted of three songs from Punky Brüster. Trust me, I'm not lying on that one.

That said..lot of things going on all at once...my sons and I are now working together on getting a Label of the ground..working also on getting old and new music out there finally.

That's crazy awesome, I'd love to have a label one day.

pretty much anything by Negura Bunget or Blut Aus Nord. Funeral doom metal would work, too. For that I recommend Subconscious Dissolution Into the Continuum by Esoteric. Wormphlegm is good funeral doom, too, as is Monolithe.

And now I present you the Devin Townsend live review (for Deconstruction). My mum just checked out the site and reckoned I could be a journalist from it. One step at a time, I'd say. :P

Oh no I wasn't complaining, I love Exivious. I just mean it's a bit odd that an instrumental prog/fusion band would play with 3 total tech death bands.

I'm beginning to think melodeath is more my speed than raw death metal but I still prefer to keep the vocals as they are.

So you prefer deathmetal vocals..... i hear this melodic deathmetal bands with deathmetal vocals ¨Be´lakor¨ and ¨Stormlord¨. You need to hear them \m/

Prog Death/Fusion, that's why.

I don't think they don't fit on the gig. And I like to get some diversity on a set. Exivious fit right in!

Yeah, I've been bummed out on a few shows. My sister was able to see Turisas twice this year. Couldn't go to the first one due to working. The second was for Heidenfest and had to miss out due to a Job Centre appointment. A friend of mine has to be lucky to get sufficient money for live shows. At least he was able to see Maiden, Priest and Sonata Arctica this year.

You got that right. It looks like it'll be a monumental year for doom metal. We'll have comebacks for Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus but we also say farewell to Candlemass and Cathedral with one more album. Solstice would be a great addition to the monumental 2012 doom if they release their new album then.

This thread is in need of waking up a bit. All I have in mind right now is wondering which of you listen to Virgin Steele and if so, which albums do you recommend? This is another band who I'm considering asking an album for Christmas. I did ask on MA but only had one response so hopefully I get a better outcome here, even if we've all been quiet lately.

Nah, but seriously. I'm not too sure about it. If they don't play too much Paradise Lost and Iconoclast, then I might go see them. I'd like to hear more The New Mythology Suite, The Odyssey and Twilight In Olympus if I ever see them live again.
