Case in point..Been talking with a Russian artist

Saw it coming..oh HELL YEAH.

I knew it was going to happen but now that it's all official, I'm excited. Not sure what to expect from the new album but hopefully the four keep their control balanced (i.e. no Ozzy taking over the whole band).

Not only is a new Black Sabbath album to look forward to, Running Wild confirmed their new album to be released on 20th April. The "break" Rolf took from the band better be enough to have recharged those batteries.

So Opeth are flawless live. Great showmen. Pain of Salvation are the fucking tits live too. Didn't think i'd enjoy an all clean vocals setlist as much as I did, it was great. And that's the end of my review.

That's because all the cool kids listen to Phlebotomized.

Sepultura, I'm too lazy to explain why metalcore isn't allowed here, metalcore isn't metal, blah blah blah. I'm too lazy and overall I think it's stupid bullshit, and it negates/delays the possibility of metalcore fans of getting into other types of metal. So just keep all Metalcore/Deathcore in the Nu-Metal/Metalcore Crew, and everything else in here. And don't let any -core bashing give you a boo-boo, because you're gonna get plenty of boo-boos if you do.

Welcome, and enjoy your stay in Metal Hell.

AniMetal, mah boi! I forgot to mention the band The Ocean (or maybe I didn't... whatever!). They were the first band to play on the Cynic show. They were great. Kind of like ISIS, Mastodon and Mouth Of The Architect. You know... Sludge... with more agressive parts. Kind of proggy. Growls and Clean Vocals. Very atmospheric and pretty damn interresting. Check it out !

I've listened to that one and "Across the Dark"

Weeping World was the better of the two because I find that there really is no need for clean vocals as long as the death vocals are good. It's cool and all when Opeth does it and it's not like it's bad in Across the Dark but when I listen to Death metal I want Death Metal vocals, clean vocals are for clean music. I'm beginning to think melodeath is more my speed than raw death metal but I still prefer to keep the vocals as they are.

Yeah Yeah sorry for bothering you... I get your points and im sorry that I talked-shit and whining on this threads about metalcore but its just that I have my own reason to say metalcore is metal and I really mean it...

Like its not because I like metalcore more its just even if u say metalcore isnt metal u could admit they look a lot like metal fans ... Im just asking you if your saying metalcore isnt metal because of the style (the way they look like) or just because of the music ??

And if Metalcore isnt metal where do you put them ??? In hardcore or what ??? No if you say so you really dont know hardcore........

I dont mind thats why metalheads frustrate me in the first place (im a metalhead too u know) They just can't accept and listen to bands that here just different or a little mainstream( but that i can understand)

I dont mind what ur saying but im my mind metalcore will always be metal and its like the genre im proudest of showing and listening and hearing and all the shit....... (They just look way better then power metal gay beside death metal too long hair and black metal faggot with long sleeves that look like nerdz) Sorry that just my thought...

If Metalcore isnt metal then I must say Im willing to kill more for metalcore then regular metal....

But still I dont understand your point , Like with you Disturbed , Rob Zombie , all the kind of shit like that isnt metal ... GET A LIFE... If u say isnt metal in what you class it ? In rock ? In hard rock???

Not really the way they look. The music in itself is completely different. Not all core is like that though. Some bands like Glass Casket or Between The Buried And Me have well enough metal elements for me to classify them as metal. Glass Casket is one of these Deathcore bands to actually use Death Metal riffing, song structures, etc. My favorite example of un-metal deathcore... is Waking The Cadaver. This shitty band is a parasite. It tries to emulate death metal elements and hardcore elements but flat out fails and end up chugging, pig squealing and using breakdowns all the time. The only thing in their music that is metal is the drumming.

And if Metalcore isnt metal where do you put them ??? In hardcore or what ??? No if you say so you really dont know hardcore........

Metalcore is most of the time, a mix of different genres. Yes, it is influenced by metal, but the core of the music just doesn't fit the metal genre. I'm really having an hard time explainning this, but to me... metalcore is to metal what dubstep is to electro (or at least 2011 dubstep). It tries to emulate the genre, but it breaks it to the most simplistic and mediocre structures you can find in music. One of my favorite examples of this, is Unearth. A band that is very reputed in the metalcore scene. But damn, even with the Thrash Metal influences, they still find a way to be as predictable as Britney Spears... and they feel the need to throw in some chugging riffs in every single of their tracks so the kiddos who can't appreciate real riffs can swing their fists around while pretending to be listenning to music.

I dont mind thats why metalheads frustrate me in the first place (im a metalhead too u know) They just can't accept and listen to bands that here just different or a little mainstream( but that i can understand)

I'm a member of the Nu-Metal/Metalcore Crew you know... I was just pointing out the fact that this isn't the best place to discuss metalcore. Even if some metalcore is metal enough for me.

Funny how you try to create stereotypes for different metal genres. Especially considering how core kids are easily the most grotesque music fans I know. There are three brands of core-kids. The August Burns Red stereotypical fan is a douchebag who spends 60% of his time in the gym, 10% at the tanning room, 15% in the clubs listenning to generic commercial house music and 15% listenning to their "metal" music even though they don't know shit about bands like Death, Cynic, Augury, Obscura, Atheist, Insomnium, Symphony X, High On Fire or Electric Wizard. These guys, they listen to the "hardcore" bands. Bands like August Burns Red, The Devil Wears Prada, Hatebreed, Despised Icon and the likes. They also wear ear-stretchs.

Second brand of core-kids... The emo ones. The ones with the fringes, skinny pants, dyed hair, make-up, painted black fingernails and their The Nightmare Before Christmas accessories. These kids listen to Bless The Fall, Bring Me The Horizon, Suicide Silence, Black Veil Brides and the likes. These kids wear strecths sometimes two.

The last brand... might be the worst. The scene kids. These are like emo kids... but way worst. If they used half the time they spend dressing up, putting make-up on or getting fancy haircuts... trying to find some more music to listen to, I guess they would have developped some kind of taste for quality music. Fashion victims at their best.

And you're saying metalheads are stereotypical ? I went to a Cynic gig the other night. We had different lenght of hair. Some people weaing band t-shirts, some with normal clothing... and no "all black" clothing. The crowd consisted mostly of men, but there was a lot more of girls then there usually is at metal gigs, and they were not gothic stereotypes like Disturbed fans.

But still I dont understand your point , Like with you Disturbed , Rob Zombie , all the kind of shit like that isnt metal ... GET A LIFE... If u say isnt metal in what you class it ? In rock ? In hard rock???

Going apeshit again? Yeah, Disturbed are Nu-Metal. Cool band actually. I like them, but they are far closer to Hard Rock then they are to Metal. I say they are more melodic than you're typical Modern Hard Rock band and they sometime use some Melodic Metal leads, bu the rhythm and drumming is more influenced by Hard Rock than it is influenced by metal. And I really don't like Rob Zombie. To the point that I can't even answer your question. I've heard a few songs, years ago and never wanted to hear anything he did again.

GET A FUCKING LIFE ITS JUST METAL WITH OTHER SHIT

I'm really confused. You started your post saying you were sorry, and now you are going apeshit on me again. Well... not just on me, in fact. Because most of the guys in here also suggested that you calm down, accept that we don't discuss metal in here and recommanded you join the Nu-Metal/Metalcore Crew if you are deeply into the genre and that you really feel the urge to discuss it.

If you want to argue that Metalcore is Metal, that's fine. I tend to agree that some metalcore bands have well enough metal elements to be considered metal and I never would like people to stop asking questions and question the "said facts". But no insults please...

Your just whining because theyre mainstream and the band that ur listening are not...

Bold assumption. I can't give a fuck about what is popular and what isn't. I do give a fuck when shitty bands only play to be mainstream. That is a true a problem. If you get popular while remaining true to yourself, that's fine. Bands who did? Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Death, Sonata Arctica, Mastodon. NAME THEM, there are countless bands who had a commercial succes while remaining true to themselves. What I hate is shitty bands like Black Veil Brides. Stupid pricks, they dress-up like all the core-kids, they use auto-tunes, they chug all the time and they follow the post-hardcore/metalcore so well... they could be used as the archetype of the genre. They are the definition of generic. They tried soooo fucking hard to be just like every other popular band... they actually succeeded. In fact, they are so much like every other band, that they make the other generic bands look original.

If I want to do something with metal its kill anybody that build the walls , and regroup everyone

Yeah well, get on the other side of the wall. I've tried countless times to introduce core-kids to metal. And they simply can't If you don't give them clean vocals chorus, simple Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Verse structures or if you don't give them simple 4/4 time signatures, they get all confused and they reject the music. See, I've listenned to more of their music than they will ever listen to mine. You can't accuse me of being close-minded. Core-kids are close-minded.

Nah, man, I listen to lots of other genres and I enjoy several mainstream and radio friendly songs. And like I said, I even enjoy some mathcore and metalcore songs by bands like Dillinger Escape Plan and Mudvayne and such. Not Falling and Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants are both pretty rad songs and I don't care who says otherwise.

(They just look way better then power metal gay beside death metal too long hair and black metal faggot with long sleeves that look like nerdz) Sorry that just my thought...

haha. I dunno. Black metal definitely has a bad image, but I must say a lot of metalcore bands look pretty lame with the anime hair and gauges in their ears and stuff. I'm not much into power metal anymore, but I still like Angra a lot and some early Helloween.

If Metalcore isnt metal then I must say Im willing to kill more for metalcore then regular metal....

Well, stick around here for metal talk, but visit the nu-metal/metalcore club for that stuff. You can have both.

But still I dont understand your point , Like with you Disturbed , Rob Zombie , all the kind of shit like that isnt metal ... GET A LIFE...

Get a life? what? This isn't some crusade to rid the world of "false metal" or anything like that. It's just how it is. Disturbed is nu-metal, which is a bullshit name. I'd rather call it nu-rock. Rob Zombie, I don't really know because I'm not familiar with his music.

GET A FUCKING LIFE ITS JUST METAL WITH OTHER SHIT

Why do you keep saying "get a life"? Several people in this club enjoy metalcore and nu-metal and the like. It's just that this is not the place to discuss that sort of music.

Your just whining because theyre mainstream and the band that ur listening are not...

You'll find that we don't just enjoy "underground" metal, but mainstream metal as well. Megadeth is one of my favorite bands ever, and so are Mastodon and Dream Theater. If those aren't mainstream, then they're pretty close. I also enjoy Metallica and Anthrax. We're not whining, brah. Metalcore just doesn't count as actual metal.

I honestly think So Cold

So Cold is a great song, but that's pretty much all I enjoy by them.

doing that hair spinning thing.

Whirlwinds is one of the names for it. haha

Then MonstrO played and they did very well. They're a pretty damn good rock band. I was feeling kinda sleepy towards the end of their set, though.

I recently saw MonstrO as the opener on the Kyuss / The Sword / Milligram / MonstrO tour. I thought they were incredible, despite never hearing of them before. I consider them kind of sludge though, based off their live set. Need to listen to them on recording soon.

Finally, Black Tusk came on and they were the best part of the night. They fucking killed it, and by that time of the night, I was pretty well drunk, so I got kinda loud. After that, I went over to shake the hands of all the guys in Thou and offer my compliments, which was a well received gesture. Then I was just about to leave and I remembered at the last minute to ask for the autographs of the guys in Black Tusk. I walked around for a moment asking around for a marker and the bassist from MonstrO gave me one. Black Tusk was still up on the stage packing up and they were more than happy to sign my shirt.

Fucking A dude. I wish the Black Tusk tour here wasn't 21+.

Hahaha, man. That's terrible. DEP is awful. Why didn't you leave their set?

I was pretty close already to the stage. Would hate to lose my spot for mastodon.

Falkenbach for this week!

I think the only thing I'll like them for is the appearance on Deconstruction but even then most of the guest musicians are overshadowed by Devin Townsend.

Sometimes you gotta take the plunge to go through an awful band on stage, especially to keep your spot like Anti-Pie said.

Bizarre mixture of bands you got here. haha

I've never been a big fan of Iron Maiden and I really only like the first two Overkill albums. I can't say i'm really a fan of White Wizzard either. I also don't really like much 00's Dream Theater.

But Kyuss, 90's Dream Theater, Opeth, Mercyful Fate, Cynic, Evergrey and Pyramaze are all awesome.

I'm impressed you know Pyramaze actually. Is it because of their album with Matt Barlow, or their two classic pre-barlow albums?

Nice!

I saw that Evergrey tour as well, only Sabaton wasn't playing the MA show for some reason. (Not that i'm complaining, I don't really like Sabaton)

I also saw that Kyuss tour and I saw Dream Theater play one of the two headlining shows of that summer tour without Maiden on the bill. It was easily one of the best shows i've ever attended.

Saint Vitus is pretty awesome. I saw them back in March with Helmet, Crowbar, Kylesa, Howl, Red Fang and The Atlas Moth.

Awesome. I'd love to see both Mastodon and Red Fang again. The tour's coming to Boston next weekend, but i'm afraid I don't have the money for this.

Also, yeah, Dillinger Escape Plan are pretty awful.

Lol Textures is one of the most overrated bands of this decade so far.
I've yet to hear them.

Probably the blandest and most uninspired "prog" band of all time.

And they're not really metal either. They're closer to core than metal.

To tell you the truth, I've yet to hear Ghost. I would have bought it at the merchandise but they didn't have them signed by Devin. I decided to go with Addicted instead.

I gotcha, yeah. Ghost is gorgeous.

What was the devin setlist like? Besides Deconstruction in entirety, obviously.
