Pantera, Metallica, 3 Inches Of Blood, Anthrax, Accept, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Rainbow, Thin Lizzy, W.A.S.P., Slayer, Megadeth and Gwar are all Metal bands, or have produced some metal material sometime in their career.
The others though, are not metal.
System Of A Down is Nu-Metal, which is a genre that really shouldn't have the world "metal" in it.
Alice Cooper is much more of a Rock artist. But I know he did influence quite a few metal bands. So since he's been an influence to some metal bands, I think it's ok to mention him.
Deep Purple is another of the Rock bands who helped in the creation of Heavy Metal. I'd say they are Proto-Heavy Metal.
Kiss are not Metal at all.
UFO are a Rock band, but they, like Deep Purple and Alice Cooper, have influenced metal a lot! Proto-Metal :)
Except for Soad, the artists you have named are all somewhat related to the Hard Rock genre. I do undestand that the line between Hard Rock and early Heavy Metal is pretty hard to draw sometimes. I doubt that my "definition" of the line that separates Metal and Rock is perfect. Still, I try to see what elements of the music can make a band either Hard Rock or Heavy Metal. I think my classifications of the bands we mentionned earlier is pretty accurate. Maybe some other members of the Hell have other opinions on these. If so, I'd like to hear them.
Anyway, as one of the Four Horsemen of the Metal Hell, I welcome you :)
