Well, it looks as if tickets for the Hole In The Sky festival is pretty much sold-out. There's always next year though.

Either Anaal Nathrakh or Pretty Little Flower (especially during live performances)
I hate the fucking fact I've only been to one one show and im not even interested in the main band there any more. (Vital Remains)
I need get out more.
Forgot to mention yesterday but this week I covered Candlemass!

They're definitely one that's pleased my ears and I'm rather limited with thrash metal songs.
Apart from Iconoclast and Deconstruction, I haven't heard the rest but at least it gives me a lot more to listen to from this year.Oh fuck. Definitely invest into listening every album I listed. All of those are great.
Not a problem. I'll see what I can find from your list and hopefully discover more great releases as a result.
As for the new pagan's mind, like I said, it's good but it's just not good compared to their pre-god's equation stuff. haha
Didn't you say the same thing about their previous album? :P
Do so, it's a highlight for power metal in 2011.That being said, 2010 was an AMAZING year for power metal.
From 2010's power metal releases, I own Angra (poor album), Blind Guardian (kick ass), Gamma Ray (nothing special), Helloween (good stuff), Labyrinth (meh), Overmaster (Not bad), Rhapsody (awesome) and Triosphere (Alright). Clearly I've missed out on a lot of stuff.
For 2011, all I've got so far is Alestorm (we know what you think), Falconer, Rhapsody, Stratovarius and... Well, depends if you think Symphony X and Týr's new releases resemble power metal in any way. :P

That reminds me of my last trip to London. My sister was seeing if there was anyone playing down there while I took my weekend break in London but all for "metal" playing live was Whitechapel, LOL!

Not much new thrash is worth checking out.
Mantic Ritual, Vektor, Razormaze, Lich King, Thrash Or Die, Havok, Witchaven and Warbringer...
Those are pretty much the only good ones. There's ton of shit out there for modern thrash haha.
Didn't you say the same thing about their previous album? :P
I think both the new PM and God's Equation are good albums.
BUT BEFORE GOD'S EQUATION? We're talking one of the best bands of all time. haha
So it's hard to compete.

This was supposed to be out in 2010, don't know if it was. If it was, I better find it. haha
Gaia Epicus's "Dark Secrets" was a really great album, IMO.
I guess you could call Dream Evil's "In The Night" power metal and that was decent.
Apocalyptica isn't power metal or anything, in fact they're arguably not metal at all, but Seventh Symphony was a great album in my book and they're liked by a lot of PM fans i've found.
Astral Doors's "Requiem of Time" is REALLY good in my book. But not as good as some of their former albums though.
Charred Walls Of The Damned released their first album last year, it's self-titled, features ripper owens and a few other popular guys. Personally I thought this album was a total borefest and a joke, but most people i've talked to claimed it was a masterpiece so I don't know what you guys would think.
The latest Kiuas is absolutely incredible, the name of the album escapes me this second though. haha
Winterstorm's debut "A Coming Storm" is quite good, and promising for future great things to come. Nothing spectacular though.
Knights Of Round also released an album that was quite... eh, "better" then their first. It was pretty good, kind of cheesy though. Really cheesy. But that's to be expected.
Icewind, Spellblast, Masterplan and Galneryus all released albums last year too but I have yet to listen to them. Or the new Angra either, I neglected to check that one out too for some reason. haha

The most brutal band that i have heard is Vomit the soul (not the cannibal corpse song) an italian brutal death metal. I have to say the italians do great metal \m/

Heh, and I thought you expertised in thrash metal. Well, maybe not as much as power metal but still. :P
Mantic Ritual, Vektor, Razormaze, Lich King, Thrash Or Die, Havok, Witchaven and Warbringer...
Vektor's one I've checked out before.
Power metal stuff
Now that's a fair amount of stuff. I have tried one Dream Evil album but it didn't click onto me. As for Knights of Round, I'm liking the aspect of them. I'll have to give them a shot.
Icewind
What is this? A Firewind tribute band? :P

Apart from Arising Thunder, you're missing out on nothing of value.
I know a lot of you guys hate metalcore, I do too, but Haunted Shores are really good so I thought I should post them.

I don't hate metalcore, it's one of my favorite genres. People just stereotype it because of all the shitty, uncreative bands, bu the truth is that over 90% of the bands in any genre are bad. Hating metalcore just happens to be "cool".
Speaking of core, I assumed Protest The Hero would be awful based off their name and fanbase.
I actually find this really awesome.
I also like BTBAM and The Human Abstract.

I do. But from the 80's and early 90's.
Most modern thrash metal is either painfully simplistic and boring AND/OR just rip off old thrash metal bands nonstop.
I especially hate Evile and Bonded By Blood. BBB have a unique style and all, but it doesn't work if with that unique style it feels like EVERY SONG is the same. And Evile are just cocksucking Slayer, Metallica and maybe Nevermore without any real ideas of their own to their music.
Now that's a fair amount of stuff. I have tried one Dream Evil album but it didn't click onto me. As for Knights of Round, I'm liking the aspect of them. I'll have to give them a shot.
Dream Evil took me a loooong time to get into. It just clicked one day, not sure why.
Also, i'm happy someone knows Knights of Round. I love them. haha
IcewindWhat is this? A Firewind tribute band? :P
Hahaha they're actually one of the most original sounding PM metal bands today in my book. THey're obviously heavily Stratovarius influenced and whatnot, but they still have a completely unique sound of their own.
A band I forgot was Seven Kingdoms. Their '10 album is okay, a few songs stand out on it but a few don't. I don't know if i'd call them power metal though.
Apart from Arising Thunder, you're missing out on nothing of value.
Doesn't surprise me. haha

Maybe 90% of bands of any genre sucks... but Metalcore bands that sucks happen to suck even harder then any other genre's bands.
But no, I don't hate on all Metalcore, I even enjoy quite a few bands from the genre...
Any more heavy/aggressive prog would be appreciated. I've been in the mood to listen to lots of new stuff.
Also, I got more metal.
Sodom - the Final Sign of Evil
Sodom - in War and Pieces
Mekong Delta - Wanderer on the Edge of Time
I haven't listened to any of these all the way through, but I heard the first few songs from in War and Pieces and I like it. The first track is fucking awesome. And I heard the first two tracks from Wanderer on the Edge of time which were also really awesome. great riffs.

cool, thanks. I listened to the Chaos Moon stuff. a black metal band with good keyboards! quite atmospheric and melancholic, sometimes creepy. I dig it. The guitar in the song Source Balance sounds like something Czral would play. I'll check out that compilation sometime.

Eh, it sounded alright. Ian Gillan still has a good voice and Tony Iommi was playing some awesome stuff there, but I wasn't that into it overall. And I do love several Deep Purple albums such as in Rock, Machine Head, and Fireball, and I love many of Black Sabbath's albums. Also, what is the dude from HIM doing with these guys?

Yeah, those are pretty much the only 'core' bands I listen to too, I've noticed that they all happen to have exceptional technical skill too, which may play a part in it.
At 8/3/11 06:04 PM, uoidfh wrote: I like me some nu-metal. its wicked awesome stuff.
Before shit turns sour, I'm going to redirect you to the nu-metal and metalcore crew as those two genres are more suited there. The Metal Hell holds a different policy for metal and nu-metal and metalcore aren't welcomed topics in this thread for the most part.
So, I'd like to go deeper into Black Metal, and I'd like to get a few recommandations. A few ones with a good desciption would be more appreciated then a list of 30 or 40 bands.
I'd like to get something along the lines of these bands:
Austere
Balrog
Borknagar
Drudkh
Forefather
Forteresse
Gorgoroth
Gris
Primordial
Sigh
Taake
Wolves In The Throne Room
Or whatever... I don't really have much criteria... Something awesome will still be welcome, even if it doesn't sound anything like the bands I listed.
Don't know much about black metal, just going to recommend one of my favorites,
Behexen.
At 8/3/11 10:16 PM, HeavenDuff wrote: Something awesome
This'll echo a lot of shit I've suggested to Sensey.
Chaos Moon
A Forest of Stars
Aguynguerran
Sombres Forêts
Nazxul
Merrimack
Miserere Luminis
Miserere Luminis is like a Quebecois supergroup.
Sombres Forêts is from one of the members of Miserere Luminis.
A Forest of Stars is avant-garde black from England.
Chaos Moon is airy USBM with keyboards done well.
Aguynguerran is from Flanders and I've been into them since I heard their demo in '03. Quickly paced and confident.
Nazxul is a great band from Aussieland that's been around for a while but just really blew up after Iconoclast. I like Totem just as much as that album, though.
Merrimack doesn't really need an explanation other than being a very consistent French black metal.
Don't know if I showed you guys this gem. Windrider-The King Under The Mountain

Going to Mayhem tomorrow. Pretty psyched to see Megadeth live. Also I'm looking forward to the Disturbed set (yeah, I know they're not metal, but I still enjoy their music). Red Fang should be good too. This is also my first real metal concert, so are there any guidelines I should know about?
Proud Demon residing in the METAL HELL!
Lay down your soul for the god's rock n' roll!
I honestly dislike most black metal.
But one black metal band I REALLY enjoy is Rotting Christ. Also, the first two Opeth albums are pretty much black metal and rape the shit out of most other black metal bands.
Inb4 "opeth aren't black metal" because their first two albums DEFINITELY are.

Megadeth are awesome, have fun dude. And even though I dislike Disturbed, i've heard that they're incredibly fun live. Machine Head, Red Fang and Kingdom of Sorrow are all worth checking out too while you're there.
The horrible cheesiness aside, this is a pretty good basic guide. ALTHOUGH 100% ignore their topic of moshing, half the "moves" in that video like the tornado kick are just douchie things that you shouldn't do.
Also, if you're in the front row, and there's a setlist two inches in front of you: DON'T fucking touch it until when the band goes offstage. Seriously, some bands HATE it when you touch their setlist. hahaha
