I'm not talking about the song structure. I'm talking about the guitar riffs and scales, aka what makes it "djent"
What's that? You think djent is the GENRE? Lol you silly boy, as of 2011 djent is STILL just an onomatopoeia.
I have to approove here. I can't see Djent as a musical genre, since it's basically just a new form of Technical and Progressive Metal with chugging riffs that sound like... "Djent". You can't name a new genre based only on how the musicians of that so called new genre play their palm-mutes...

Wouldn't go as far as saying "like Coldplay", but their most recent work is definitely more Rock then it is Metal.
Well, their new stuff is far closer to coldplay then 'emo"
We are just going way off track... Saying Katatonia is closer to Coldplay then Black Veil Brides is kind of useless, it's like saying Gorgoroth sound more like Nickelback then the Jonas Brothers...
When I think of "emo" I think of black veil brides and escape the fate. hahaha
I swear I didn't read that part before choosing Black Veil Brides for my example :P
I wish I went to see Agalloch when they played here in march, fucking 21+ shows.
Fucking teenagers at Metal gigs :P Lol, my girlfriend is 20 and she went to the show with me :)
It's like Paradise Lost improved to me. haha
Oh well, at least we agree that SX is a cool band :P
I found most of the songs on PL to be rather uninspired and boring. The drums and bass were easily the best part of the album. The guitar, keys, vocals and lyrics were all... so forgettable.
The lyrics? They were great on Paradise Lost, way better than what they are on Iconoclast. Most of the time, when I listen to Iconoclast, I can't help but think that the lyrical theme is kind of cool, but that the lyrics don't make much sense or that they just don't fit at all...
Like this one part of Dehumanized sounds play boring, generic and again Allen just fills the empty spots with "ooooh" all the time:
What's done is done - I'm dead inside
I'm what you've all become - Mindless and mesmerized
Dehumanized
I'm dehumanized
Don't you realize - I'm Dehumanized
Oh, and victimized
You can't break me
You unmake me - Dehumanized
Then the cheesy chorus of Bastard Of The Machines:
I see your demons rise -
Deep within your burning eyes
You are the Bastards of the Machine
The Bastards of the Machine
Dunno about that... but I get a weird Déjà vu right here...
And the chorus of The Lords Of Chaos that really tries way too hard to be the chorus of Set The World On Fire:
We rule, we fly
Above the lights of the neon sky
We fight, we cry
The Lords of Chaos will never die
Walls Of Babylon is probably my favorite song on PL though.
Solid track of course :)
There's a difference: I enjoy arguing, so when it's a topic that interests me I jump in.
As far as I can tell, you just argue with anyone who has a different opinion.
Well, you try to make it sound like it's different, but you do exactly the same as I do. And no, I don't fight with everyone who has a different opinion than I. Like I see a lot of people in here who think Mastodon are freakin' great... I couldn't agree less, but I don't fight with those who don't agree with me all the time...
UFO - Crystal Light
Om nom nom once again.

Read the articles you link before you send them.
This. And even with the definition of SomaGuye... Djent just sounds like a mix of chug-chug riffs and technical guitar work mixed with an intense will to sound proggy by playing off-beat chugging riffs...

Which is why when I posted I wrote it as 'Djent'.
Also, I see that nothing has changed here since I've been gone. Awesome.
So, all the unnecessary bullshit arguing and elitism aside, Periphery and TesseracT are coming to Sydney soon enough and I'm going to see them :D going to be amazingly awesome.
I love how you guys whine about anything that comes close to any form on intellectual debates... We are not throwing rocks at each others or insults, we are debating the existence of Djent as a musical genre. There is no elitism involved in here.
And if we suck so much, why even bother coming back?

Yeah, but that's a box-set. A lot of big bands do silly stuff like that for their fanboys, because they know some diehard fans will pay the 80 bucks it costs to have such a silly dust-collector kit.
But we've been making fun of silly box-sets. I'm not one for these gimmicks since all I need is the standard CD (maybe expanded if the bonus tracks are worth a damn) and not even my favourite bands would get me into these gimmicks. I just want to hear the damn album!
I'd much rather invest in getting more albums, so more tracks then having just one album with a bunch of toys. Even if I'm a big fan of the band I can't help but think that only those who don't know a lot of music will invest in such a thing. I'm talking about the kind of kid who drops in here every once in a while to say he likes "only real metal" and name Pantera, Metallica and Iron Maiden, and refuse to listen to anything else we suggest him.

Don't get your hopes up. The artwork and animation is amazing as any other Ghibli movie, but overall, it's merely an okay movie compared to the likes of Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Nausicaa. Pretty much every Ghibli movie is worth your time, though. Pom Poko and Porco Rosso are some of the more underrated ones.
All japanesse animation movies I suppose :)
I don't know much about these, and in fact, I only saw the movie My Neighbor Totoro because of a friend of mine who really enjoys a lot the japanesse culture... so mangas, animes, cosplay, history, culture and alllll the stuff from Japan... except their Metal :'(
