Excellent, that's the exact version of the album everyone should get. I really wonder who would pick up the standard version.
I just started listenning to the album. So right now... I'm three tracks into it. The opener is kind of so-so... They tried too hard to be prog with this one, but the riffs really don't seem to bring much to the progression. I can't help but think that most of the riffs would have fitted better in shorter tracks.
I thought the opener was really good. Easily one of my top picks for metal songs so far.
And the third track is ok, I found nothing special during my first listen.
So how was the rest? Keep in mind that several listens will help the listening experience of the album. I've found myself liking it a lot as a result.
I know what you mean but I was saying Hammers of Misfortune has some good looking musicians so it really is a win-win situation for them. Of course, if their music sucked I wouldn't even bother with them but that's not so.Alright. That's another band I really should check then :P
Definitely. However, it's easier to get into them if you already know Slough Feg. Not sure what you think of them but for Hammers of Misfortune, give these songs a shot:
Doomed Parade
The August Engine, Pt. 2
Election Day (video image is NSFW)
Keep in mind that none of their albums so far rehashes the same style. The debut album The Bastard had black metal elements which are now absent in the later works. The most recent album has a fair amount of 70s prog rock elements so as you can tell, they are a band that want to try different ways to make high quality music. I only wonder what direction they'll take with the new album that should be coming out in October.
On another note, the Blotted Science CD arrived today so I'm no longer limited to Spotify to listen to it.

I still think their band name is really weird.
