Fuck, it's been a while. Now I remember why I come here so much... To see HeavenDuff argue with everyone. Anyway, I was looking through the pages I missed out on and saw Bahamut's Manilla Road Metal Monday plug, and that got me thinking. Have you ever listened to Dark Quarterer, Bahamut? Italian 80s trad heavy metal. I think you'd enjoy them quite a bit.
Thanks for the bands guys. I want to listen to bands from a variety of countries, and Italy would be next on my list. I'll check them all out.
I'm also still trying to decide on something. Should I get an album, or a Dark Funeral T-shirt? I really would like to purchase the album, to support the band and all, but that Dark Funeral T-shirt is just amazing. What would you get in my situation?

Depends. Does the shirt have the album cover of the CD you want to buy? If so I would buy the CD before the shirt... or both. Just seems if you're gonna buy a shirt with an album cover at least own the CD. Unless if you have heard all of the album. Just would suck if someone was like, "Hell yeah man that's an awesome CD." But you haven't listened to it yet.
We're meat and that's it. So lets fuck it, fuck it, fuck it.

You know, the name Dark Quarterer actually rings a bell. I might have caught the name on Shadow Kingdom Records when I was browsing their store to see what caught my eye. That's how I ended up looking into Longings Past despite your recommendation from a while back. As for Dark Quarterer, some good stuff right here. I'll have to consider getting one of their albums whenever I order anything from Shadow Kingdom again (i.e. the release of the new Manilla Road album).

It sounds great so far :) I like the classical elements just how they are used. They manage to stick to their Brutal Tech Death sound even with such melodic elements. It's amazing, I'm definitely going to check the whole thing when it comes out :)

Get the shirt if you want to support the band. Album sales don't really do much for bands.
Can somebody tell me what differs speed metal from power/thrash/trad. metal? Is it an interchangable term, or a genre in it's self? None of the speed metal I've ever listened to had any key distinguishable trait other than speed, but power/thrash/trad metal have that already. Is it a term used before the other genres were created? Help me guys.

Well, I mainly want to get the CD because it's from an extremely underground band and I want to support them. The shirt is really awesome because it has Dark Funeral's band logo in the front, and on the back it says "The Ineffable Kings of Swedish Black Metal". That is really awesome because it shows people what I listen to, and what I'm all about.

I didn't know that, I thought buying albums supported the band more. Interesting. Nonetheless, it's an album from one band and a shirt from the other, and the album is from an extremely underground band and I want to support them (stated in my previous post, sorry for the double post). I don't think I'd be supporting Dark Funeral much if I bought a shirt by them, since the band broke up.
It's a tough decision, I mean I want them both, but they are much too expensive for that.
In conclusion I just want to say that Gaahl and King of Gorgoroth getting split from the band has to be the worst band breakup ever. I really wish Gaahl did more with Gorgoroth :(

I buy shirts for the artwork, not to show everyone how metal I am.
So what stuff did you get Bahamut? We'll just see how Metal you are now!

Happy birthday man. I wish I had some money to buy some metal stuff.

Really.
I thought Megadeth was getting better and better as time goes on (oddly enough), but the name of this album isn't a very good indication.
Thanks for the birthday wishes! I already made a news post regarding my birthday but here's all the metal related stuff I got:
Ronnie James Dio figurine
TF2 Sandvich T-Shirt
Slough Feg Traveller T-Shirt
Iron Maiden The Trooper T-Shirt
Death - Human
The Devin Townsend Project - Deconstruction
Doomsword - Resound the Horn
HammerFall - Renegade
King Diamond - Abigail
Solstice - Lamentations
They managed to get all the albums I asked for except Falkenbach's new album. Maybe it's a late arrival so I'll hold off buying it for a week or two.

I was expecting a more creative title from them.

Ronnie James Dio figurine
I'm amazed I actually got one of them. I thought they were sold out by now and if so they'd be around £500. I was told the other possible present was the TF2 Heavy statue but I'd say Dio is more timeless than a video game so I'm happy with what I got.
Anthrax, Testament, Overkill and Death Angel north america tour this october/november...
I hope you americans/canadians are jizzing as much as me.
Happy early birthday bahamut, for next year. ;D
So I'm really enjoying the new Symphony X album. But for some strange reason, so far I find it to be somewhat inferior to Paradise Lost. Why I'm comparing them together is because Paradise Lost was definitely the step toward a "new" Symphony X, and Iconoclast follows the same path, with a pretty similar production and style.
I can't say why exactly I think it's not as good, but so far I think that it's the "vocals" that fail to bring me where Paradise Lost brought me. I'm not talking about how the vocals sounds, but rather how the lyrics or vocal melodies do not hook me into the song. Just compare the chorus of Set The World On Fire from the album Paradise Lost, to the chorus of songs like Iconoclast or Dehumanized...
Not only that, but sometimes Allen just fill some holes in the melodies with "OOOOHHHHH" and other sounds he likes to do... It's not making the tracks boring, don't get me wrong... It may seem like I'm complainning a lot, but the point of my post is to mention what seems to be the weakest elements of a very good album.
The album is still great and the track The End Of Innocence is fucking radical! Electric Messiah also has some of the best guitar riffs of the album. The title track of the album is finally growing on me, even if the chorus vocals are fucking ridiculously cheesy and boring... The bass line during the chorus is absolutely crazy though :)

I never listened to Paradise Lost but after hearing some saying Iconoclast wasn't as good as it, I really want to give the album a shot and decide for myself.
