Slayer is too mainstream, but G.O.D is sooo underground

G.O.D second album here!

Metal from my home country, Honduras.

Melodic Death! That's my thing:

- Insomnium
- Children of Bodom
- In Mourning (Progressive Melodic Death)
- Dark Tranquillity
- Scar Symmetry
- Amon Amarth
- (Old) In Flames
- maybe some Amorphis
- Norther
- Omnium Gatherum
- Hypocrisy
- October Tide (Melodic Death/Doom)
- SuidAkra (Melodic Black/Death)
- Swallow the Sun (Melodic Doom/Death)

Gargoyle - This is a cool thrash metal band from Japan.
myGRAIN - Melodic death metal from Finland. They have some infectious keyboards.
Whispered - Another Finnish melodeath band, they blend some elements of japanese folk music into their sound.
Evil Dead - One of my favorite thrash bands.

At 7/5/11 12:01 AM, HeavenDuff wrote: So for Thrash Metal...

- I suggest you listen to the Demo albums of the band Cynic. They started as a Death Thrash band, I'm pretty sure that you will enjoy this. If you feel adventurous, listen to the album Focus by the same band. It's a masterpiece :) Not Thrash Metal, but still a masterpiece :)

I recommend "Focus" to any and all death metal fans. If you were to recommend Cynic though, you should've put it under melodic death metal. Focus isn't melodeath, but it's a hell of a lot closer to melodeath then it is to thrash metal...

- I will mention the band Evile, even if AniMetal think they are shit, I think that as a Thrash Metal fan, you should listen to it and make your own opinion.

You mean Slayer. Listen to Slayer, if Slayer's your favorite band and you need more slayer for some reason: then listen to evile.

- I suggest you listen to the album Damned In Black by the Norwegian band Immortal. This is a Black Metal band... but this album could arguably be describded as a Blackened Thrash Metal album. Not sure if you will enjoy this, but I still think it's worth mentionning it.

You're so weird, Immortal is the third band you're recommending for "thrash metal"....

The only bands i've found that i'd consider blackened thrash metal are Witchaven and Destroyer 666. haha

- Try the one and only album released by all female american thrash metal band Meanstreak. This album is great, and if you enjoy 80's Thrash Metal, you might enjoy this a lot!

It's not really thrash, it's closer to traditional metal. But they're still great.

- Morbid Saint, is definitely one of the greatest Thrash Metal band I've heard in my life. Their only Full Lenght album Spectrum Of Death is a TM masterpiece !!! It's raw, agressive, straight to the point Thrash Metal!

This is pretty much the only valid recommendation for thrash you gave, I must say.

Listen to Morbid Saint before any of Duff's other recommendations, they're exactly what you asked for.

- Last but not least, the Progressive/Technical Thrash Metal band... Watchtower. This is also a great Thrash Metal band, my favorite album by them is Energetic Disassembly. This one album, I highly recommand to any Thrash Metal fan :)

I suppose they can be considered thrash, I never viewed them like that before though. I've always considered them to be way more enjoyable by prog music fans then thrash metal fans. Yes, I know they're progressive thrash metal but still.

Duff, I understand you recommending Morbid Saint and Watchtower but your other thrash recommendations don't really work. You should REALLY try to aim closer for the requested style.

If I requested a power metal band similar to Stratovarius, I wouldn't want someone recommending me listen to Megadeth. :P

This isn't a personal attack like you seem to think I always do, it's just an idea. haha

Also guys, I just made my first payment for the 70tons of metal 2012 cruise. :D Hopefully it'll be as epic as this year's...

I can relate to this. I felt the album closer for Moonsorrow's Verisakeet (i.e. Kaiku) could be much better without the crackling noise that goes on for four minutes. That's half of the track wasted on that. I would have been OK if it was just a minute but four? That's just padding. Shame it does that since the song itself is a great closer for the album.

Agalloch.

Anyway as I mentioned them before. I think Funeral is definitely worth a listen to any doom fans. They set up a great atmosphere without completely raping it by long repeats or anything like that. I'd start with their album tragedies first. I'm quite a fan of their song Taarene. Also, great female vocalist.

Also really been getting back into Celtic frost. Don't know what it is about them but I like it.

Started listening to a black metal band called Enochian Crescent

They're pretty alright, they have a pretty different sounding vocalist that's for sure

I've only particularly enjoyed one or two songs from their Black Church album but I figure they sound different enough to merit a listen.

I really did open my recommandation for Cynic with the Demo albums, which are truly Death/Thrash albums. Keep that in mind.

You're so weird, Immortal is the third band you're recommending for "thrash metal"....

No. I recommanded an album by Immortal that is Blackened Thrash Metal.

Plus, you need to consider that the kid already knows a shitload of Thrash Metal, so I'm not about to name more "traditionnal thrash metal" bands, since he already knows them. Seing how much of a big Thrash Metal fan, I thought it would be great to open him up to some other genres. Starting with bands like Immortal which are obviously not straight up black metal, was to me, one of the best idea.

The only bands i've found that i'd consider blackened thrash metal are Witchaven and Destroyer 666. haha

Then do your homeworks and listen to some Immortal.

It's not really thrash, it's closer to traditional metal. But they're still great.

You know that Traditional Metal is not a genre, right? Like, when this "traditional metal" you are talking about was first created, it couldn't be named "traditional metal" since there was really no tradition in this sound. So what you are talking about when you use this "wrong" genre classification, is Heavy Metal like Black Sabbath. Seing how Thrash Metal comes from Heavy Metal, it is pretty hard to draw a line between both genres, especially when it comes to classifiyng bands from the 80's. Still, I think you must be deaf if you don't hear any 80's Thrash Metal influences in Meanstreak.

This is pretty much the only valid recommendation for thrash you gave, I must say.

Yeah, right.

Listen to Morbid Saint before any of Duff's other recommendations, they're exactly what you asked for.

It's funny that you think you can speak for him. The guy already knows a ton of Thrash Metal, why name more bands that would sound like the bands he already listed? I'm trying to bring something new in the game. The kid didn't ask for "stuff that sounds like what I already like". He said something like "I want some Thrash Metal recommandations". And I think my recommandations are pretty good. Especially considering that the user who asked for these recommandations... was thankful.

I suppose they can be considered thrash, I never viewed them like that before though. I've always considered them to be way more enjoyable by prog music fans then thrash metal fans. Yes, I know they're progressive thrash metal but still.

Still what? They are definitely Thrash Metal. It's like saying Sonata Arctica or Hammerfall are not "real power metal" because they are dissed by the typical pm fan...

Duff, I understand you recommending Morbid Saint and Watchtower but your other thrash recommendations don't really work. You should REALLY try to aim closer for the requested style.

Here are some more bands you could try listenning to if you like Thrash Metal.

Exodus
Testament
Overkill
Destruction
Sodom
Tankard.

I know how to recommand very similar bands, but that was not what I was trying to do.

At 7/5/11 10:06 PM, AniMetal wrote: Also, The Agonist are awful.

Their first record was good. It was consistant and not a random mess of chugcore like the second. I'm with you on this one Ani.

Yup! And that's why I like Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and their awesome music.

Oh wait... Do I care about artistic integrity again? Sorry, I think I do.

Tits and music really shouldn't go together. Don't listen to an artist's music because you want to stuff your dick in her beaver... There really isn't any link between both anyway... Your appreciation of their personnal appearance really shouldn't influence your appreciation of the music...

In a way, these core bands are guilty of doing exactly the same as the pop industry... They use slutty girls with fake tits (like that slut from In This Moment) to sell more records. I think we should create a new genre classification for this kind of band... We'd call it something like Titscore.

By the way, I have seen that Alissa girl at a Threat Signal show in Montreal.

Be sure to listen to IV as well. I really like the first two albums but the works from post-IV don't seem to click on for me. I like the odd songs from each album, though such as Carouselambra and All My Love from In Through the Out Door and Kashmir from Physical Graffiti.
