Meh.
So I finally got into Between the Buried and Me. Fucking sick. I particularly like Alaska and The Great Misdirect.
Also, what's the consensus on Death Angel? I find that I don't really like a lot of their stuff but then they have a few songs that are super dope. For example, "No" off The Art of Dying and "Truce" off Relentless Retribution.
Also also, for anyone that likes dark rap, check out Tyler, The Creator's album Goblin. That shit is intense.
Word.
I want more Black Metal but I don't know where to start
I already listen to Rotting Christ and Watain but I don't really know where else to look since most of the other black metal i've listened to doesn't seem to match it.

Golf Wang. I fucking love Odd Future.
Anyway, I'm posting again just to reiterate that I'm alive. I've been listening to Red Fang, Bison BC, Isis, Black Tusk, and Doomriders recently. Gotta love that stoner/hardcore combo.
Here I am, bored with everything.

Even though I hate their vocalist and some of their riffs are too metalcoreish for me to enjoy, they're overall great. Seen them four times, actually. haha

Ultra Violence, while a very acclaimed and their most popular album, I don't actually like too much. It's a good album, but at times it feels very generic and uninspired compared to other 80's thrash albums. That being said, it's still pretty kickass - especially the title track. The vocals are a bit hard to listen to though, because the vocalist sounds like he's ripping out his vocal chords in the studio. haha
Frolic Through The Park is pretty great also, but I haven't listened to it too much yet.
Act III is easily their best album, it's a thrash masterpiece in my opinion even if not all the songs are straight up thrash.
The Art Of Dying is really shittie and boring retro thrash, I couldn't even enjoy a single track on it. I haven't listened to RR or Killing Season nor do I plan on it.
Death Angel are really kickass live though.

Pretty awesome band. They're probably the best 00's thrash metal band i've heard, and i've heard a lot.

Ripper Owens is one of my all time favorite vocalists. Haha
Fucking Priest and Iced Earth, writing their blandest music when they had their best singer. :'(

It isn't "just his opinion" it's the opinion of the whole club more or less, or at least of the members that matter.
At 6/10/11 11:31 AM, ToastedCupcake wrote: Within The Ruins
All Shall Perish
Veil of Maya
Bongzilla
Animals As Leaders (not completely metal, but definitely some aspects)
Born of Osiris
Kalmah
Wintersun
After The Burial
Texas In July
I listen to a lot of deathcore/progressive stuff, I need some recommendations.
I don't know if I hate you, or like you. On one hand, AAL / Bongzilla / Kalmah / Wintersun are all amazing, on the other the rest of that list isn't metal and is totally mediocre. haha
I recommend Scale The Summit if you like AAL. They're like AAL, but not anywhere nearly as technical. They're way more emotional though, and I actually like them more because of that.
Swallow The Sun and Insomnium I both recommend since you like Kalmah, Norther and In Flames.
I also recommend Last Chance To Reason. Their first album is deathcore, which I don't really like at all, but their second album is amazing progressive metal. (heavenduff, check these guys out - I get the feeling you'll love their second album)

Says you, I think CC is a great album. (I don't like their other post-2000 albums though)

Well, I'll work on the Progressive Metal part then.
I recommand...
Dream Theater
Blotted Science
Death (the album The Sound Of Perseverance is a prog death album)
Jacobs Dream
Liquid Tension Experiment
Aghora
Cynic
Spastic Ink
Symphony X
Watchtower
so the previously listed bands are all "sort of" progressive, but from different metal genres and sub-genres.
I'll also just leave this here... because grindcore is fucking badass
Benighted - Let The Blood Spill between My Broken Teeth
Benighted - Grind Wit
SYL for this week's choice of Metal Monday!

I like it when he dies. Seriously, though, it sucks that he left us but considering his history of alcohol and drugs, he should have been more careful.

Hey, I did mostly blame the lazy writing on those songs rather than having Ripper Owens on them. Something Wicked Part 2 showed that having the more preferable vocalist for the fans does not make good album.
Rock Hard Festival 2011
So I finally wrote a quick review for the festival. I also added a picture of me. ;)

Arise to sky and set free - Release toward horizon
I've never actually even listened to Anal Cunt, I don't think. haha
But either way, RIP.

Everything Devin Townsend touches turns to gold. In case you guys didn't already know that.

I know, it sucks. Both Iced Earth and Judas Priest turned to shit right before getting the ripper on vocals. And Charred Walls Of The Damned sucks too.
So far his stuff with Winter Bane is the only album i've found where it's actually overall great.

You missed Overkill, fo shame since they're so good.
Also, shame about Primordial. They would probably have been the band I would be the most excited to see on that fest, if I were there.

I've still got a lot to hear from his solo works but that's a good thing since it means I still have a lot of great stuff to discover. I have asked Deconstruction for my birthday but I might get Ghost as well.
I'm recording a song about a month from now. I'll post it here when it's ready.
It'll be thrash metal. I'm thinking the intro will be something like
a|4-4-------4-5-4--4-4------4-5-7--4-4--
-----4-3-4--4-4------4-4-----
e|2-2-000-2-3-2--2-2-000-2-3-5--2-2-000-
2-5-2--2-2-000-2-2-000
a|4-4-------4-5-4--4-4------4-5-7--4-4--

e|2-2-000-2-3-2--2-2-000-2-3-5--2-2-000-
2-5-2--2-2-000-2-2-----
And repeat, but the fourth time around, hold the last chord and slowly press down on the whammy bar, then go straight into the main riff.
I personally think it sounds pretty fucking sick, and I usually hate everything I make.

Yeah, his solo stuff is good.
I always thought it was unnecessary though. While all his solo albums are good, none of them particularly stand out in my memory besides Ki and Ocean Machine. Ocean Machine being hated by most devy fans. hahaha

That has to be the worst most uninspired shitty "riff" I've ever seen.

GODDAMMIT, I just spent forever tabbing my songs/riffs and my fucking computer shut down just as I was about to finish. I will get them up here.
Sounds like fun! Can I join? I won't be annoying or all that jazz, :-)

List a few metal bands, something like ten bands, and we'll see how things will go :)

I can't list more bands than I actually saw. :P
Yes, it isn't much, but it's always a very thin line between "watching bands" and "having fun on the campground". XD
Besides, who wants to see Tryptikon or Down anyway? :P
Forgot to add: The weather was really shitty this year, so it wasn't that much fun to check out new bands...
So allow me to refresh my little argument.
A few days ago when I actually had time to, I listened to all of Agalloch's music. I of course was thinking " you know, I haven't listened to them in a long time. Maybe their music isn't as bad as I remember. Maybe it's really been that long. "
And now I can honestly say I made a mistake. It's not that agalloch is uncreative, the ideas behind the music they have are good. They just can't express it for shit. They may be creative, but that doesn't mean they have to be good. The guitar for one, lacks personality 90% of the time. Of course They have a few decent guitar tracks. However, the acoustic bits are always in the same key and chord progressions, One of the most prominent being the STRUM STRUM A STRUM A, STRUM STRUMA STRUM A. They kill the coldplay arpeggio technique. And any other random acoustic bit is just alternate picking on seventh chords All the god damn time. And how could I forget how they manage to take a four note melody and stretch it to fit 7 minutes of a song. The drums were slightly better than the guitar, in the sense that whenever they actually had a continuous rhythm the drummer could keep up with the guitar. But yet again in all of their little interludes it was always the same drum rhythm/pattern.
So then I got thinking, who else has pretty much done this? Opeth. Except Opeth is deathmetal. They have succeeded in every area agalloch couldn't. And Mirrorthrone, hell mirrorthrone was even more revolutionary than agalloch.
And how can you say agalloch is creative and yet another band isn't? At least I see now that the only way a band could be uncreative is if they sound EXACTLY 100% like another band. Death's cover of Painkiller? Creative, because it didn't sound like the original, even though it's the same song.
Either every band is creative or none are.

Actually Triptykon kick all sorts of ass. One of the best metal albums of last year.
