Does anybody here know of a site like Rotten Tomatoes or Meta Critic that deals with books instead of movies? That would be a very useful site.

Also, did anybody get raptured? If so, how's the internet in Heaven? I bet there's like, no load time and downloads are instant and you can use it with just your mind instead of a mouse and keyboard. Also, I bet the monitor screens are gigantic, in 3d, and have better definition than real life. And I bet you can physically walk through it like in Futurama if you want.

thrash? I'd say it's heavy/speed metal. And I definitely consider the stuff with Kiske to be power metal. and Deris, actually. I do agree that some of their songs sound more like hard rock, though. Speaking of which, have any of you guys heard Moshi Moshi Shiki no Uta? It's a bonus track on Better Than Raw. I think this track shows that Uli Kusch is very much capable of being a more interesting drummer and doing more than the boring usual "dodo tsch dododotsch" drum beats. I wonder if he's being lazy or they genuinely just think it's better that he plays the way he does or what.

At 5/22/11 11:48 AM, Haggard wrote: According to some, not even Jesus knows the hour of his return. But maybe he just got distracted on the way here?

I'm pretty sure that it says in the Bible that the date cannot and will not ever be known. Then again, I'm pretty sure very many, if not most Christians haven't actually read the entire Bible. Not only that, but this isn't the first time this Camping guy has claimed that the Rapture is coming. Speaking of which, I found a copy of Isaac Asimov's Guide to the Bible Part 1: the Old Testament in my garage. I plan on reading that some time and maybe getting Part 2: the New Testament if I like it. If I understand correctly, it's a secular, but objective explanation of what happens in the Bible put in a chronological and easy to understand context, which I think is a very cool idea for a book. I found a shitload of other books in the garage that look cool, too. some more Asimov, L. Ron Hubbard, and I think there's some Ray Bradbury. I can't remember. I also found Game of Thrones. I heard that the show is cool. I'm looking forward to renting that when it's released on DVD.

I really ought to start reading more. I just have a shitty attention span thanks to movies, video games, and worst of all, the internet. I might join my local library and start taking out H.P Lovecraft books. Maybe they even have comics/mangas/manhwas. It's doubtful, but that would be cool.

And speaking of Jesus and the Bible, did you know that in one of those apparently non-canonical gospels, (the Gospel of This Dude, the Gospel According to That Guy, etc.) he fends off a fucking dragon? Like, a proper, legit goddamned dragon. Also, they took the names of holy deities of other religions, modified them a bit, and used them for evil characters, like demons and what not. True masters of trolling, they were. And according to some other gospels, Jesus was pretty mean when he was a kid. He's said to have magically stricken a kid blind for pissing him off (I forgot what he did) and he killed another kid by turning him into sand or ash or something (I also forgot what that kid did, but it was something not that bad).

Tony Levin (Liquid Tension Experiment, King Crimson)
Erlend Caspersen (Blood Red Throne, Spawn Of Possession)
Sean Malone (Cynic, Gordian Knot, Anomaly, Agora, OSI)

We have three favorite bassists in common. Sean Malone, Tony Levin, and Alex Webster are also among my favorites. I was actually just going to do this. So, like, I will.

guitarists

Robert Fripp (King Crimson. one of the most unique and creative guitarists ever)
Adam Jones (Tool)
Michael Romeo (Symphony X)
Chris DeGarmo (Queensryche)
Chuck Schulinder (Death)
Ihsahn (Emperor, Ihsahn, Peccatum)
Mattias Marklund (Vintersorg)
Vintersorg (Borknagar, Vintersorg, Cronian)
Ron Jarzombek (Spastic Ink, Blotted Science)
one or both of the guitarists from Atheist (dunno who does what)
one or both of the guitarists from Mastodon (same as above)
John Baizely and the other guy from Baroness just because their music is so great
Buzz Osborne (Melvins, Fantomas)
Wata (Boris)
Takeshi Ohtani (Boris)
Tim Sult (Clutch)
Mike Lerner (Behold...the Arctopus, Direwolf)
Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)
Jeff Waters (Annihilator)
John Haughm (Agalloch)
Don Anderson (Agalloch)
Cornelius Jackhelln (Solefald, Sturmgeist)
Carl Michal Eide A.K.A Czral (Virus, Ved Buens Ende, Aura Noir)
Knut Magne Valle (Arcturus)
Sakis Tolis (Rotting Christ)
Alexander Nordgaren (Fleurety)
Jimi Hendrix
Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
Alex Lifeson (Rush)
Heri Joensen (Tyr)
John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple, Rainbow)
Kiko Loureiro (Angra. I think his riffs are better than the songs they're in)
Ian Williams (Don Caballero, which I found out after watching SCTV is pronounced "cab a YAIR oh")

bassists

Sean Malone (Cynic, Gordian Knot)
Geddy Lee (Rush)
Tony Levin (King Crimson)
Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Control Denied)
Alex Webster (Blotted Science and Cannibal Corpse, as if CC mattered to me)
Pete Perez (Spastic Ink)
John Myung (Dream Theater)
Les Claypool (Primus)
Justin Chancellor (Tool)
Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath)
the bassist from Atheist
David Ellefson (Megadeth)
Noel Redding (Jimi Hendrix Experience)
Colin Marston (Behold...the Arctopus, Dysrhythmia, and apparently now, Gorguts)

the bassist from the prog rock band Spaced Out, even though I haven't listened to them all that much. He's just that awesome. I have 2 or 3 of their albums, tthough and have listened to them fully. just not a whole lot.

and Brian Gibson from Lightning Bolt. His bass is set to standard cello tuning, the high A is replaced with a banjo string, it's distorted like fuck, and he uses a lot of pedal effects. He also plays it more like a guitar than a bass. I thought it was a guitar when I first started listening to Lightning Bolt. His sound is very unique. Here's his setup, according to Wikipedia.

5-String Music Man StingRay
DigiTech Bass Whammy pedal
BOSS OC-2 Octave pedal
BOSS ODB-3 Bass Overdrive pedal
BOSS SD-1 Overdrive pedal
Line 6 DL-4 Delay modeler
Ampeg SVT4 Pro with 4x10 cabinet
Crown Macro-Tech MA-3600VZ power amp
More cabinets ranging from 18" to 4x10

And he claims that it's 3,000 watts.

drummers

Hellhammer (Arcturus, Mayhem, Age of Silence, Winds, Thorns)
Danny Carrey (Tool)
Bill Bruford (King Crimson, Earthworks, Bruford, Yes, UK)
Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer)
Niel Peart (Rush)
Damon Che (Don Caballero)
Nick Menza (Megadeth)
Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Transatlantic)
Charlie Zeleney (Blotted Science, Behold...the Arctopus, and apparently, he's not in BTA anymore)
Bobby Jarzombek (Spastic Ink)
Lars Nedland (Solefald, Borknagar, Age of Silence)

I'll get to vocals and keys later. This has taken me a ridiculously long time. I'll also add to guitar, bass, and drums if I forgot anything.

I guess... But everytime AniMetal starts talking about Power Metal he makes me feel like I'm a complete noob in terms of Power Metal. He's always like "Sonata Arctica are not liked by REAL power metal fans" or "that Edguy album is not Power Metal, it's Traditionnal Metal."

I'm not going to agree with the last part of the sentence for those thoughts but yeah, he knows an insane amount of power metal bands. I'd like to know which ones he's listened to stand out very well. My problem with lesser known power metal bands are how forgettable they are or I keep feeling there's better bands from the genre I could be listening to instead.

I know you recalled some tracks later on but what about Thorn and Time Stands Still (At the Iron Hill)? This album has some of the finest solos from the band or maybe even metal in general.

It has a 82% average on Metal Archives, however, so I'm probably in the minority.

It's one of the most reviewed albums on the site so there's probably a review or two on there that will relate to you.

The CDs I ordered from Amazon a few days ago should arive tomorrow. They had a nice deal, where you could buy 3CDs for 15 Euro, without any shipping costs.
So, I bought "Awaking the Centuries" by Haggard (strangely enough I don't own any CD from this band, even though I named this account after them... o_O), "Agents of Fortune" by Blue Öyster Cult (the album with the famous "Don't fear the reaper") and "Damnation" by Opeth.

About time I get some new stuff. I was listening to Iced Earth the past few weeks since I will see them live next month. But right now I don't want to listen any more to them out of fear I will get fed up with their music... (which is highly unlikely, but still ^^)

You guys better start listenning to one of the most amazing bands I have ever heard in my entire life. I just stumbled upon them while looking through Sean Malone's stuff. And this band is absolutely amazing. Anyone who likes Cynic, Liquid Tension Experiment, Spastic Ink or Watchtower should definitely give this band a listen. In fact, any prog metal or fusion fan should give this one band a try. Their stuff is absolutely amazing !!!

Hell yeah, that's a great deal! That's only £13 and I have a hard enough time finding good albums for less than £5 these days that I don't already own.

"Agents of Fortune" by Blue Öyster Cult

I have to admit, I've yet to really try out Blue Öyster Cult.

This album arrived through the post today and apparently it's very rare. A friend of mine freaked out when I told him I bought this album online.

I've been kinda disappointed this year as it comes to metal albums. I only have 3 albums that I've really enjoyed this year so far. Ghost's Opus Eponymous, Artillery's My Blood, and Believer's Transhuman. It's already about 1/2 way through the year, and I have only got 3 good albums. Anyone find any other really good albums released this year that I may have missed?

Ghost's album was released last year. As for best releases of 2011 so far, I've enjoyed Turisas' Stand Up and Fight, Falkenbach's Tiurida (despite what others have said about the album in comparison to others) and Hell's Human Remains the most. Give those albums a shot if you haven't already. I'm sure more great albums will come this year.

I plan on getting Boris - Heavy Rocks II, the new Ulver, the new Virus, and the new Vintersorg. maybe the new Obscura, eventually.
