My tribute to Dio.

I did have Phenomenon in mind because of Doctor Doctor but if they're better overall, I'll consider them instead. Hopefully I can find these albums for a good price.

Also, they're Steve Harris's number one influence - and we all know who he is and what he did for metal, as much as I hate to admit it.

I respect you for acknowledging the influence he's made on metal. :)

Yeah, I listened to Havok a while ago and I'm convinced they have a time machine.

Hell, it took me a while to find the right band with a long-ish name. The other two I had in mind were Hammers of Misfortune and The Lord Weird Slough Feg but the former depends if you'd count of or not while the latter is a name Slough Feg have changed from.

Anyone here like Eloy or Spock's Beard?

I've never heard of Eloy, but I like Spock's Beard.

Pleased to meet you, I am a metalhead Tool fan.

Tool is one of my favorite bands.

I like Opeth, have a few discs and the Lamentations DVD. Been a while since I last listened to them. Been a fan since Damnation. Used to like listening to them between classes when I attempted college back around 03. Their music has a calming effect on me. I like how they mentioned Camel as an influence.

Camel? really? I don't hear any signs of their influence.

Cynic, have yet to hear them.

Focus was a great album. Sean Malone is an awesome bassist/chapman stick player. I wish more music had chapman stick. that and 10-12 string warr guitars.

Why are there so many shitty bands popping up who think buying 7 and 8 string guitars will make them super heavy and brootal? Example

I can see why a bunch of loosers would like to rely on their technical skills because of their lack of music writting skills... Chugging on 7 strings guitars and sweeping through 7 strings will most likely draw the attention away from your lack of inspiration and song structure.

By the way, I've gone back to Winterheart's Guild by Sonata Arctica. And I really must say that everybody in the Metal Hell should listen to that gem at least once in his life, no matter if you are a Power Metal fan or not. It is simply amazing. And Victoria's Secret is my girlfriend and I "lover's song", if that means anything to you (We do have a couple other songs, but that's one of our tracks).

Tony Kakko is one of the greatest vocalists the world as ever seen.

I don't know about every single metal fan checking out this album. If I'd go with an album that I recommend to even non-power metal fans, it'd be Blind Guardian's Tales from the Twilight World. That's the album where Blind Guardian's musical style comes to fruition whilst keeping the thrash/speed metal elements from the first two albums.

In my opinion, power metal didn't really start becoming a genre of its own until the mid/late 90's. Before that, it was almost all borderline rock or borderline thrash.

Mih, all dream theater before six degrees of inner turbulence is fantastic. That album onwards they begin to really become a borefest.

The Devin Townsend Project = AMAZING
Obscura = Pretty damn good
Septic Flesh = Good but nothing great
Children Of Bodom = Worst band ever.

The two of the four bands you don't know are easily the best of the four, funny.

I'm glad to see this review finally up. I haven't got all the songs from Mystification stuck in my head but it does get better. However, I feel the highlight of the album is Children of the Night which I hoped to hear a few things from this review. As for the remastered version, that's the one I have with the better sound mixing and reordered track listing which I feel is better than the original. I can't see how the album can even start with a track other than Up from the Crypt followed by Children of the Night.

Next one is Out of the Abyss. That's another album of theirs I haven't got myself into but I'm sure I'll fully appreciate it eventually.

I didn't say that they were a good introduction to Power Metal or that they could easily fit metalhead's tastes in general. I'm just expressing my opinion on this piece of gold that is Winterheart's Guild. I'm not a big Power Metal fan myself, but these guys are absolutely amazing, and I think this one album is a gem.

Maybe you'll be surprised, but I never got into Blind Guardian. I don't have any of their work in my iTunes Library and I don't think that I've listenned to more then 10 songs by them in my entire life.

Yeah, and buy a 7-string guitar just to chug on a lower tuning is plain stupid when you can just detune a 6-string guitar to a lower tuning with thicker strings.
