ATL is pretty amazing. haha

Anthrax is one of the few bands where their most popular album(Among The Living) is actually my favorite album.

Check out Spreading The Disease, that album is also pretty amazing. (Well everything with joey belladonna on vocals is amazing actually)

I actually prefer Persistence of Time over ATL. While both are solid albums, I always just preferred POT. I also have a soft spot for State of Euphoria since it was my first Anthrax album. Also, some of their later stuff is pretty good. Like We've Come for You All and Vol. 8. Also, Worship Music is FINALLY COMING (supposedly)!

And, Manilla Road has released the title for their next album, Playground of the Damned. It's supposed to be less epic and proggy than some of the more recent releases, and go back to some of their more traditional metal stuff.

As far as I know, Anthrax has never released a bad album - even without belladonna. I'm not exactly tempted to listen to their 90's or early 00's stuff though. haha

Lol i'm not always in the mood for death metal or metal in general, actually.

As one of the biggest Blind Guardian fans you will ever meet as they are my favorite band, and considering the bands they toured with and listened to back in the late 80's and early 90's. In addition to the general sound and style, I can honestly say that BG bordered on thrash metal for AT LEAST the first three albums, with those elements also peaking into the 4th and 5th ones.

Although I stumbled across them elsewhere, I would like to thank Dalnaki for the Longings Path recommendation from a while back. I was curious about An Angel's Tale which I got brought in by its album artwork and thought it might have been good. Unfortunately, the remastered version has the title track songs split up into 16 tracks which I thought was stupid. I had to listen to the whole album to see what it was like but I had a great experience from it. I had to listen to it twice when I was on the train to London today.

Not to mention a shitty drummer.

Yeah, Battalions of Fear is rather different compared to the rest of their albums except for Follow the Blind but it showed an impressive start from them. Hearing their Lucifer's Heritage demos is even stranger considering the NWOBHM feel to it.

So it's expected to be more like Open the Gates and The Deluge? I'm good with almost any direction they take. They've got a preview for Into the Maelström which to me feels like a song from Gates of Fire but slightly cleaner. Hopefully they announce the release date soon enough.

Aww...
Kidding, I only really memorized the name of the singer in Judas Priest (not the post-Painkiller one, mind you). I don't really care much for the drummer, but the drummer (if he's the same guy) in Painkiller was pretty good.

One thing I feel stupid asking about, does anyone know why there seem to be two Souls of Black versions, but despite both of them being labeled as parts of the album I can only find the worse of the two? I of course mean the song by Testament. There is two versions: an okay one with somewhat low quality of sound and a version where everything is ramped up. I occasionally find the improved version but I never find it again. I feel like this doesn't make much sense, but I can't really rephrase it lol...

I do. I have most of their discography. They were one of the first DM bands I really started to like. My personal favorite album is Mercenary, but that also has some sentimental value.

You'll need to list ten metal bands for your application. Although you've mentioned three already, I'm afraid Disturbed don't meet our standards. Please list the other bands you listen to so we'll have a better idea on whether you qualify or not.

1. Megadeth
2. Metallica
3. Tool (idk if they count, they're pretty heavy)
4. Opeth
5. Slayer
6. Mushroomhead
7. Black Sabbath
8. Judas Priest
9. Rammstein
10. Static-X

Good?

Unfortunately, Satic-X, Rammstein, Mushroomhead and Tool don't meet our standards. Just because one band has a heavy sound doesn't mean it's actually metal. Still, you've listed some good stuff there and if you're willing to look further in the heavy metal universe, then I welcome you to the Metal Hell!

I'm not sure I can really take that seriously. Just because they don't use harsh vocals a lot and certain other elements that "make metal," I would have to say that Tool is very much a metal band. If you look at Dream Theater as being metal, or even Isis, then Tool should also be metal. They use a lot of grungy guitars, double bass, lots and lots of technical drumming, their bassist is a beast (I'm a particularly huge fan of the bass groove towards the late middle of the song 10,000 days (wings part II)), and Maynard James Keenan has tons more vocal talent than James LaBrie.

Just sayin'.

Dude wut. Most of Isis' vocals are harsh and they're on a B tuning, how are you using them as a comparison.

I would say Tool are pretty well cut as a progressive rock band.

90's dream theater is progressive rock, just with metal elements. 00's dream theater is progressive metal, but also quite shittie.

Tool is progressive rock with metal influences.

I rarely meet metalheads who like tool, or tool fans who like metal in general as well. Thought i'd share that.

Also I saw the legendary U.F.O. last night! They played such classics as Doctor Doctor, Love To Love, Lights Out, Rock Bottom, Shoot Shoot. Venus, Only You Can Rock Me, Try me along with others.

Opening were Last Perfect Thing, who were like a weird mixture of psychadelic, pop and rock. It was interesting. Also, Mindflow - amazing Brazilian progressive metal.

Anyone here who doesn't know UFO doesn't belong here.

No by UFO I mean the legendary rock band from the 70's who were one of the first bands to tap into metal, a huge influence to steve harris along with countless other musicians and a band arguably as innovative as Led Zeppelin.

So if I don't listen to 70's rock, I'm not worthy enough to be a part of the Metal Hell? That's makes a whole lot of sense...

No, it means you have no apprciation or understanding of the true roots of metal. Or knowledge of rock at all. So you should GTFO.

Also, that you have no sense of humor if you took my comment seriously.

UFO are a band that has never released a BAD album, however their bestes are easily Lights Out, Force It and No Heavy Petting.

And it's not that they're just great to me, I wasn't kidding when I said they're one of the most influential bands to metal. Because they really are. Also, they're Steve Harris's number one influence - and we all know who he is and what he did for metal, as much as I hate to admit it.

It's funny how there is at least a hundred bands who single-handlely started metal. That's at least what hundred of metalheads like you claim. I'm sorry if I don't know every single mofo who wrote a somewhat "heavy" rock track. I'll look into them, that still doesn't mean I can't appreciate metal only because I don't know every single 70's rock band who could have somewhat influenced Bruce Dickinson's left testicule to write a Heavy Metal track.

Also, that you have no sense of humor if you took my comment seriously.

They didn't "start" metal.

They simply influenced all the bands that DID start metal. Unless you consider Led Zeppelin metal, personally I don't.

You don't get it. UFO aren't some distant relative of metal. They're one of the grandfathers of metal. (Bands like iron maiden and the like being the fathers)

Basically imagine if Led Zeppelin and The Scorpions got together and had the perfect baby. You've got UFO.

Their songs "Doctor Doctor" "Too Hot To Handle" and "Love To Love" are their biggest hits and all classic rock/metal tunage.

They were heavily popular and highly influenital in the late 70's and throughout the 80's on basically everything rock, metal or glam. But for whatever reason, by the early 90's UFO faded out of memory.

The venue I saw UFO at last night was a 1500 person venue and DID sell out, but I was one of maybe ten people there under the age of 20. I'd say 90% of the people their were 35 or older. (Not including staff, obviously) so it just goes to show how far their popularity has dropped.
