It means that Symphony X is playing The Odyssey as the encore to every show on the tour, something they didn't play once on the europe tour. I think that makes up for it.

It's still not quite the same. And please, leave Blackguard alone, these guys are doing a fine job on their scene.

Oh please, they've opened on seven or eight north america tours in the past two years - even ones they don't belong on. They steal brilliant tour opportunities from GOOD bands, and are just COB cocksuckery + cheap, folk metal keyboards.

Hopefully you're counting Bestial Devastation as one of those albums. Otherwise that means Roots is a good album and that was the album that made me turn against nu-metal. Well, to be fair I haven't listened to their EP but surely it's better than Roots. I'd like to know how good the debut album and Schizophrenia are because I've put them aside for so long and the last time I bought a Sepultura album was 4 years ago.

Bestial Devastation is sick too.

1. Arise
2. Beneath The Remains
3. Chaos A.D.
4. Morbid Visions
5. Schizophrenia
6. Bestial Devastation
7. Roots

That's my ranking of the Sepultura classics, and I actually like Roots. It's the weakest of the albums I enjoy by far, but it's still good IMO.

And it isn't NU metal, if anything it's groove metal.

Well, they played The Odyssey when I saw them, back when they released Paradise Lost, and it's really not that awesome. It's a cool song, but I'd like them to play another 4 songs instead of this... Maybe I'd get a chance to see them play Evolution, at least once in my life.

It's true that they open on way too many tours, and with bands they really share nothing with, also. No, you are right to complain about them being everywhere, but Blackguard really aren't half that bad. And I don't see them as a CoB ripoff, they have some decent to cool riffs of their own, and I wouldn't ever confuse them with CoB upon listenning.

Really? I've seen them in 2005, 2007 and again in 2008 and they didn't play The Odyssey once any of those three shows.

Also Evolution is a seriously overrated song. Fallen, Absence Of Light, A Fool's Paradise and Egypt are all MUCH better songs off V.

I just think they're boring and uninspired. I had no problem seeing them on Paganfest Part II back in 2009, but every single tour i've seen them on since they don't sound ANYTHING like the band they open for. And everyone acts like they're amazing and SO innovative when really, they aren't. At all.

Also, their singer has the stage presence i'd expect from a deathcore band.

Yup! It wasn't as long as on the record, it was a kind of shorter version.

Also Evolution is a seriously overrated song. Fallen, Absence Of Light, A Fool's Paradise and Egypt are all MUCH better songs off V.

Not like I said that their other songs are not great. But the riffs on that track are techical, yet so fucking melodic. The keyboards on that track add a great symphonic feeling to support the badass guitars. And Allen, well... he's Allen :P

It's sad that I missed their show tonight, but I really was too busy with my University work to think about getting tickets for their show.

Talking about gigs... I wanted to go to the Summer Slaughter Tour. Once I've heard that Fleshgod Apocalypse were on the show, I thought it was a great opportunity to finally see them live (I don't think they ever came to North America). But then the other free spots on the tour got filled up. See the results...

The Black Dahlia Murder
As Blood Runs Black
Darkest Hour
Whitechapel
Six Feet Under
Dying Fetus
Oceaono
Powerglove (wait what???)
and Fleshgod Apocalypse

That's... the shittiest fucking line-up they could come up with! This is a pathetic list... It's plain fucking horrible. Whitechapel is the second band I hate the most in this world, right after Waking The Cadaver. And Powerglove? Wtf?!? It's not like they are bad or anything... but what the fuck? Is it that hard to get death metal bands to play on the Summer Slaughter Tour. It's not like there are no Death Metal bands out there... they had to fill the spot with a Power Metal band? That's just wrong!

Fleshgod Apocalypse are great. But them alone, couldn't convince me to go through the pain of seing such horrible turdcore bands.

Anyway, on a more positive note, I'm thinking about seing Origin live. Only problem is that I don't know shit about the other bands on the show. So if you guys could give me any feedback on these bands, it would really be appreciated :

Hate Eternal
Vital Remains
Abysmal Dawn
Death Lullaby

And to conclude my post, I've heard that Origin will be releasing a new album, and that this core vocalist is gone :) Love it!

It is definitely one of my favorite albums of the genre. Not that I know a lot of Doom Metal... but this, I know I really like :) The 4th track is a little slower to get one. More drony then doomy, if you ask mey. The three first tracks are amazing from 0:00 to the end.

Yeah, I was thinking the last track was rather drony. Not that it's a bad thing. Infact, I'm happy to know there's something from drone that I can appreciate. I thought I wouldn't get into drone doom at all.

Really? Saturday at the SX show they played it, if anything, longer. It was probably closer to 27 or 28 minutes than 24.

LAME.

EVERY year SS gets one outsider, random band. It's like a tradition or something, last year they had Animals As Leaders which is way more random than Powerglove.

Fleshgod Apocalypse are great. But them alone, couldn't convince me to go through the pain of seing such horrible turdcore bands.

Six Feet Under and Powerglove are great too.

Also one more band is left to be announced: Revocation and Augury are both potentials for that spot and are both great.

Hate Eternal

No idea, I know they've opened for Cannibal Corpse and Hatebreed before though. So i'm assuming they're shit.

Vital Remains

Oldschool death metal, but one of the very few OSDM bands I can't get into. At all. I've tried time and time again, I just can't get into them.

Abysmal Dawn

I guess you are right. But I think that what kills it for me, is that the bad bands, are worst than bad this year. I can stand some poor Deathcore shit and generic melodeath bands... but Whitechapel and As Blood Runs Black are TERRIBLE!!!

EVERY year SS gets one outsider, random band. It's like a tradition or something, last year they had Animals As Leaders which is way more random than Powerglove.

You think Animals As Leaders is less fitting than Powerglove? I don't think so. In fact, AAL was a good pick for the tour. It's not brutal, but it's technical, and it doesn't have any vocals, so it's easier to make it fit on any kind of set. But Powerglove is all about glory, falscetto, dragons and power metal. It's just... a bad choice :P

Six Feet Under and Powerglove are great too.

But I'm not going to that gig to see Power Metal bands, and Six Feet Under, I don't know them enough, but I remember not liking them when I first encountered them a few years ago. Might give it another listen...

Cool. But I still think that Whitechapel and their scenefag fanbase will keep me away from that gig.

Hate Eternal
No idea, I know they've opened for Cannibal Corpse and Hatebreed before though. So i'm assuming they're shit.

You simply can't say that... Reading through your last few posts, I can see how you diss some of the bands who open for the bands you like... and you really can't compare CC and Hatebreed, so you can't assume that Hate Eternal sound anything like them. Plus, if I ever had a chance to open for Cannibal Corpse, no matter how different my band would sound compared to them, I'd take that chance. It's a good way to get people to know your band.

Vital Remains

But I'm not going to that gig to see Power Metal bands,

I hate it when people call pglove power metal, they're not really any select genre of metal. They're just video game music played on guitars and drums. -.-

I know plenty of PM fans whose hate them, and plenty of nonpower metal fans who love them.

They're a hit or miss band.

Alright so I spent a good part of yesterday listening to the three albums I mentioned earlier.

First I started with Sagas because Dammerung is an amazing song IMO and I wanted to hear the rest of the album. I was not disappointed. The sweeping instrumentals and unique mix of folk elements with black metal vocals certainly appealed to me since the harsh rasp tends to be my preference these days and it fit the music really well. I'd say it was probably the best of the three by a fair margin.

Next was Perdition City which was full of interesting sounds to say the least. A little shorter than I might of hoped but certainly worth the listen and has me interested in their more 'metal' recordings.

Finally I checked out Demigod which I unfortunately had to deal with a lot of background noise at the time of listening. I'd like to listen to it again because when I could hear it I was enjoying it. I was already familiar with tracks like 'Demigod' and 'Conquer All' and I found most of the tracks to be following in that same vein to create a really consistent sense for the whole album.

I loved this album by Equilibrium. Once you've gotten familiar with Sagas, I suggest you listen to Turis Fratyr. I don't like it quite as much as I like Sagas, but some particular songs on Turis Fratyr are well worth it. Unter Der Eiche is my personnal favorite on Turis Fratyr, but Sagas as a whole is a better album, IMO.

Now that they've changed their vocalist... I really don't know if I should check out their most recent stuff... The guy was simply amazing !!!

Next was Perdition City which was full of interesting sounds to say the least. A little shorter than I might of hoped but certainly worth the listen and has me interested in their more 'metal' recordings.

Perdition City is an album that grew on me. At first I liked it, but now it's one of my all time favorites. I see myself constantly going back to this one, Lost In Moments and Porn Pieces Or The Scars Of Cold Kisses are in my top 100 tracks of all time for sure !!! It has such an unique sound and feeling :)

If you want to give a listen to their Metal stuff, I suggest you go for Bergtatt first. Nattens Madrigal is a cool album, but it's rough on the ears.

Finally I checked out Demigod which I unfortunately had to deal with a lot of background noise at the time of listening. I'd like to listen to it again because when I could hear it I was enjoying it. No, it is pretty right.

The difference between metalcore and deathcore: Metalcore is cleaner, actually uses clean vocals and occasionally has guitar solos. Deathcore is nothing but CHUGGA CHUG, uses little-to-no clean vocals and never uses guitar solos.

Basically, they're both shit - just different colored shit.

BTBAM is basically the only decent core band, and the only thing really core about them is their vocals.

Powerglove isn't a "power metal band".

Powerglove is a band that can open for ANY band, whether it be sonata arctica, kreator, escape the fate, mastodon, whatever and no matter what appeal to people.

If someone likes metal? If someone likes really technical instrumental? If someone likes video games? They will like powerglove.

Go on the powerglove forum, i'd say 60% of that forum's users aren't even metalheads. (or if they are, they're more of the mainstream kind)

Mike Mangini is officially the new Dream Theater drummer. All I hope is that he's more stable than Portnoy was. Also:
