Agalloch was amazing !!! I've never seen a band play with such passion, talent and emotion !!! I was going totally crazy during their set, it was absolutely perfect, except for the vocals. They always get lost somewhere...
When they played Bloodbirds... it was absolutely crazy, everybody in the front rows were just banging their heads real hard, screaming with John. It's the last track they played before the encore, so they gave all they had, Don Anderson was jumping all over the place, screaming even though he didn't have any mic! He was standing, just in front of me and my girlfriend, shredding and blowing our minds with his skills! He was jumping all over the stage, and I managed to take a photo of John in the middle of a powerful headbang, the picture is fuckin' amazing !!!
The last track of the Encore was In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion, which was absolutely amazing. It was the only track they played from The Mantle, but boy, was it well executed!
This is the setlist:
1.Into the Painted Grey
2.Falling Snow
3.The Watcher's Monolith
4.*I'm not quite sure about this one, I'll have a chat with some other people who were there to find out.*
5.Limbs
6.Ghosts of the Midwinter Fires
7.Our Fortress is Burning... II: Bloodbirds
8.Dead Winter Days
9.In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion
And I'll just have some more fun messing with you guys, Musk Ox and Don Anderson played Isle Of Summer during Musk Ox set, and they did it for the first time in Montreal !!!
I'll post some pictures tomorrow and upload some videos :)
I would really like to see Agalloch play 'The Lodge' live just to see if they bring out a deer skull, than and because that song is awesome, as is pretty much every song on The Mantle.

I'll take this opportunity for whoever isn't aware that Goatchrist is still considered one of the leaders here, despite long term activity. Ages ago he felt he wasn't active enough at all and we agreed that he should give him an alternative position so if he's around and wishes to review a new applicant, he's free to do so since he was the founder of the Metal Hell after all. It's been almost a year since he last came here. I really hope he finds some free time soon.
I've got something to ask, what do you guys think about djent?
Liberals defend the exploitation of man by man, Conservatives defend the reverse.

Isn't that the new-core genre? Like... palm-muted chug-chug fest, but with more strings?
Agalloch - Falling Snow

Apparently, stuff like Meshuggah and Periphery. And it's not chug-chug, it's djent-djent, lol. You may want to hit me with stones, but I actually like it. It'a groovy and interesting. In my opinion it sounds a lot like mathcore.

I've heard Meshuggah are the first band to ever be called Djent. So it can't be that bad. But I still feel their might be a lot of lame bands who play that "genre" of music, only to sound badass, but still have a lack of any interresting structure and progression.

Don't be fooled. A lot of people will tell you shit about grooves or time signatures and shit like that, but it's mostly chugging.
Whenever I hear or read about people talking about Meshugga the conversation is automatically narrated in my head by Jon Lovitz in his Jay Sherman Jewish voice.
Symphony X has a release date for their new album, Iconoclast! June 17th for Europe, June 21 for North America, and Junee 22 for Japan. Most excited for this!

May and June are looking to be really good months for metal. May has new albums by Anvil, HammerFall (still really unsure about this), Saxon and Tyr while June will have new Alestorm, Falconer, Rhapsody and Symphony X. I have a lot to get for those months. I'm just glad my sister will be chipping in for some of them. She already wants to get the new Alestorm album.
Also, new Symphony X album cover is badass.

Would be cool to see him around. Hopefully he is putting his time into recording more awesomeness. I want to hear some new stuff from him soon.
How come we're still alive? In these kingdoms of filth, when heaven's so abstract and hell is so real...

Although people on /mu/ can be dicks at times, they are useful for finding really decent, underrated metal.

First tell what kind of metal you will be playing.

Heh.
Listening to Timeghoul through a pair of good headphones is awesome.
Also, fuck useless and pointless elections.
Thanks to a friend of mine for bringing up Ghost from Sweden. The retro metal thing may be a gimmick at this point but this is one band that has the sound production and atmosphere right. If I didn't know any better, I would have assumed this was released in the 70s but it was only released last year. I've listened to the whole album and it's one that deserves a purchase, even though the band members are trying to hide their identities.

Ghost isn't a gimmick band, though. Genuine oldschool worship.

Ghost is one band that sticks out the most compared to anything coming out these days thats for sure.

I wasn't saying the band was a possible gimmick (although the band appearance is very silly) but rather the whole 80s metal revival we've had over the last few years. Gimmick or not, I still enjoy these bands.
Metal-archives says they're Gothic Avant-Garde Metal, and it sounds cool in my opinion.
