Alright, I don't usually listen to music, but I'm starting to take it more serious now. I love any band that can shred my ears to death on a guitar. Any recommendations on what I can check out?

Nope. They're still deathcore. Just because they dropped most of the deathcore shit, doesn't change anything. Also, most people will never consider them a legit death metal band as long as they keep the Job For a Cowboy name. Myself included. They will always be a deathcore band to me.

Dude! We don't hate on mainstream bands. It just happens to annoy us more when popular bands suck. When an underground band sucks, it just fades away, because they don't have a big fanbase whatsoever and their music will be lost in the abyss of bad music forever. But all the bands you've listed, especially the 4 first. Look at their discographies...

Metallica - 9 LP
Pantera - 9 LP
CoF - 10 LP
Dimmu Borgir - 9 LP

That's a shitload of music. You will hear these very often, hear people talk about it very often. It just happens that these bands are always right there, right in your face, playing shows for MTV, attending the Grammy Awards, making videoclips aired on MuchMusic. It's not that we wait what is popular, in fact, Metallica was one of the most influential Thrash Metal band ever, it's just that we like to express our thoughts, and say how much we hate on something that is praised by way too much people.

And the two last bands you listed... Lamb Of God, they are trying too hard to be heavy, rad and brutal, plus they are a Groove Metal band, which means it's crap. And Job For A Cowboy, no matter if they are a Death Metal band or not, are still generic as fuck.

Metallica is a good band. You should listen to the albums Kill 'Em All, ...And Justice For All, and the album Ride The Lightning. Some people also argue that Master Of Puppets is their best album. I don't think it it, but you should check it out anyway :)

For me, between those bands, Metallica is the only mainstream band. Maybe you'll see CoF, Pantera or Dimmu Borgir in your MTV but in Portuguese MTV, I'm very lucky to watch them talking about Metallica.

I'm not a big fan of JFAC, but in my opinion they're pretty listenable. And I can see why you hate them, they're all like "Motherfucking fucking fuck fucks fuckers", but that don't really bother me. I had and will have a lot of great times listening to them, Ashes of The Wake is so goddamn tasty.

It's like saying Death Metal is like a Jacket, and when you add a patch or something, it becomes Deathcore. That's not the way it works. Deathcore and Death Metal do not even share the same basics... Deathcore is just another of these genres which illegitimately steals their names from Metal genres, like Nu-Metal. Only similarity between both genres is the distortion and some drums lines.

I don't really hate Lamb Of God. In fact, I still think there is some kind of personnality in their music, especially on Ashes Of The Wake.

Deathcore = The downsyndrome son of metalcore and....more metalcore.
Metalcore = The downsyndrome son of melodic death metal and screamo.

I next to never hear any hardcore influence in metalcore/deathcore, so I don't know where people get that. The only hardcore bands I ever find core kids that like are Hatebreed and Earth Crisis, and both those bands suck dick as opposed to good hardcore.

DB and COF is just trendie "LOL SYMPHONIC LOL GOTHIC DEATH METALZ"
Lamb OF God is basically borderline metalcore, people just call them groove metal to feel better than themselves.
Pantera's 80's stuff along with cowboys from hell is great, but vulgar display onwards is shit.
JFAC is not and never was metal.
Machine Head's first two albums are kickass and their latest album is pretty good too, just avoid everything in between.
Nightwish is great, Dark Passion Play excluded.
metallica's first four albums are awesome.

Probably the most popular band among users of this club, Opeth, is pretty damn mainstream and most of us love them nonetheless.

It's not that we hate mainstream metal bands, it's that we hate maisntream SOUNDING metal bands.
