I'm going to go check out that new Boris/Merzbow thing. Fuck, it's either Boris/Merzbow, Melvins/Merzbow, Porn/Merzbow, is this Merzbow dude any good by himself? I have no material to go on. Perhaps I should investigate further.
So guys, any good metal albums I should get? Easy question, yes it is.
So I'm now a lot more metal because my shoulder has a metal plate with six screws. The X-Ray of it is pretty metal.

I don't listen to the dude but apparently this is one of his well known albums. Careful with the ears, though.

Ugh, old site is old.
It has pretty awful songs up and the definitions of the genres is really shittie. Plus, they skip some genres entirely.

I would beg to differ. With the sole exception of melodic death metal shows(ugh so many core kids like in flames, soilwork, etc. probably more core kids like that genre than metalheads) I next to never see more than a handful of teenagers at concerts.
And they almost always know how to behave themselves. Teenagers aren't anywhere nearly as obnoxious as fat men in their 40's that are wasted. (Whom are mainly only at thrash metal or oldschool death metal shows hahaha)
Plus, of all the shows i'm going to in the future the ONLY ones that are 18+ are Agalloch and Destruction/Heathen - the rest are all ages.

Keep in mind, i've been into power metal since 2001. I didn't start REALLY getting into other genres of metal, or music in general really, until late 2007/2008.
While Manowar isn't exactly power metal, they were close enough that I loved themed for years. Sure i'm not big on them anymore, but I still want to see them at least once as they are one of my first metal bands. (One of, not the - blind guardian was my first)

All the teenagers at every AA show I've been to and even the ones that somehow sneak their way into non AA shows are idiots. I've never been to a show where some kid hasn't tried to pick a fight with someone and end up getting their teeth kicked in. The vast majority of places here don't put up a beer gardens when there is an AA show too. Fucking sucks. Add in the fact that 99% of the kids here a posers (you guys remember by Inquisition story) and I hate AA shows.

Yeah, right?
I've read a couple definitions of main genres and sub-genres and they are pretty accurate. In fact, I've learned some really interresting stuff on Tech Death, First Wave Of Black Metal, Symphonic Black Metal, Brutal Death Metal, Black Metal/Ambient, and quite a few other genres. I've also found some new bands to listen to, because some of the tracks are not pure shit, like you said.
The guy may have skipped some genres, but I still give him credit for how well he traced the history of the genres he listed. There may be some flaws, but saying it's total shit, would just be disnonest. A lot of effort was put into this, and there is some quality information on it.

Where the fuck do you live?
I occasionally have seen scene kids at shows, but i've never seen more than one or two people generally being douchebags. And those douchebags are almost always drunks, not teens.
And as someone whose been going to shows since I was 12 and has never picked a fight or done anything remarkably stupid at a concert, I can honestly say that you're generalizing.
ANYWAY, on sunday I went to a Finntroll/Ensiferum/Rotten Sound/Barren Earth/Aversed show.
Aversed were pretty sick, I recommend them to anyone here who likes melodeath or even metalcore. (not that any of you here does like that stuff, but still)
Barren Earth were jizz. <3 Again, their lineup is:
Vocalist of swallow the sun
Lead guitarist of kreator
Rhythm guitarist and drummer of moonsorrow
Bassist and keyboardist of Amorphis
They were just phenomenal, I definitely recommend them to anyone who likes doom metal, oldschool Amorphis or Opeth.
Rotten Sound were....well, grindcore. Since I honestly hate most grindcore, i'm not going to diss them. I disliked them greatly, but whatever - I just dislike the genre as a whole. Also I can now say i've grinded to grindcore, hahaha ;D
Ensiferum were really good. Despite me only enjoying their albums with Jari and not their later stuff, I really had fun. The crowd went fucking BERSERK for these guys. (A picture of their setlist is attached)
By the time Finntroll came on, both my girl and I, were exhausted so we went to the balcony thingie and just watched. (Plus, i'd seen them last year with moonsorrow, swallow the sun and infinite descent)
Either way, Finntroll were really fun to watch and the crowd was just as crazy for them - despite me not being among the hordes. :P
Overall, loved all the bands besides Rotten Sound.

It's a widely accepted fact in Western Canada. I'm not saying it magically changes once they turn 18, but you see a lot more of it now. I just hate the fact that you get little shits that listen to nothing but finntroll and dragonforce going to a show where they haven't even heard of the bands and then act like they've been their biggest fans for years beforehand. it's just being fake man. Aside from the fact about the fighting that I've noticed it's also annoying as fuck when the show does have a garden up to have an annoying little high pitched voice at your knee begging you to buy them a beer all the time.
At 3/1/11 07:42 PM, AllMightyBruce wrote: It's a widely accepted fact in Western Canada
Ah western canada, I live in central Massachusetts. So we've probably got some thousands of miles between us. Not that there should be a HUGE cultrual difference, but their might be minor ones.
I apologize, I know for a fact most teenagers in the MA/RI/NH/CT area(Basically the area I live in in the states) listen to metalcore, deathcore and melodic death metal and listen to next to nothing else. I remember when I was like 13 and 14 adults would actually praise me at shows for having good taste in music at a young age.
but finntroll
Lol, I saw them two nights ago. I feel bad now. (But I went for barren earth who were opening, so maybe I have an excuse? :P)
and dragonforce
Yeah, I know next to no one who listens to DF anymore - people here liked them back in 2006/2007. I don't think I know many people, from both my metalhead friends and my highschool friends, who still like them.

Yeah, posers - but they come in all shapes, sizes and ages. You can't blame it all on teenagers, and most teenagers at shows go because they like the music and want to expand their taste further. Hell, I remember going to see Opeth/High On Fire/Nachtmystium back in 2008 simply because I had read NOTHING but good reviews for Opeth in here and on MA.
I didn't know any of the bands, nor did I pretend to, but I fucking love Opeth and HoF now.

I've never seen, even once, someone begging someone else to buy them a beer at a show. I've seen people mooching for money so they could buy their own beer, but never someone trying to get someone else to buy them a beer.
At 3/1/11 07:54 PM, AniMetal wrote: I apologize
No need to. I have no doubt what you say is true, it just doesn't happen to be that way here. Different scenes have different people. It doesn't help that we don't get many big shows here so when we do the promoters want to make as much money as possible and therefore get as many people into a show as they can.
Hey guys :)
I'm looking for something special, something that might not exist... I would like to know if there would be any band featuring very good bass guitar lines, like in Technical Death Metal bands. Something fast, and involving quite a lot of technique, like slapping, sweep, hammer-ons and stuff like that, and with the agressivity of Death Metal, but without the guitars burying it all under heavy distortion.
I know it may sound weird... but some kind of Death Metal project, but without guitars... or at least... without the advantage that the guitar usually gets in the mix...

Go listen to Absolutego by Boris, you like drone Bill? I'm spinning it now, It's intense.
The new electric wizard I like , it got mixed reviews but I like it quite a bit.
I'm still not big on it. Fucking stop saying IIIIIIIII AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM THE NIGHTCHIIIIIIIILD over and over again you fuck.
And the Pentagram(USA) is a must have.
Must.... Check..... OUT!
And I may be in my 40's, kinda fat, but I do not get obnoxious and wasted at concerts.
I got slapped in the face by a drunk fat dude in his 40's in an Anthrax moshpit.

Peace.

I know just the thing, if you're looking for a great Death Metal (SHOULDNT BE CAPITALISED ITS NOT A PRONOUN AAAAAAH) with really intense bass playing, first you should listen to Cryptopsy's first two albums, SLAPPITY SLAPTASTIC, and secondly, BOOM.

This is what I'll always be grateful for, even if MA happens to turn into a site worse than YouTube or deviantART. Thanks to the bands they list that one person has been, I was able to find Hammers of Misfortune and they've quickly become one of my favourite bands.

Death metal with rock n' roll influences. I almost sure it's not a real subgenre, but it's like viking metal, it's folk, but I may ask for a viking themed band...

Hey Duff, remember when you posted Kvelertak? Yeah, that band is fucking awesome. It was the perfect thing to show my friend Ian, who loves both hardcore and black metal.
