HO HO HOPE you become a Newgrounds Supporter this year!
We're working hard to give you the best site possible, but we have bills to pay and community support is vital to keep things going and growing. Thank you for considering!

Cept it's not really. Maybe the pseudo-macho part of the Metal world. We all know the geeky side can't reach climax without something from Images and Words playing in the background.
And the pseudo-macho side are all geeks anyway.
And Ryan that sucks, and is weird.
Also, I've not been around much and probably won't until I get in the mood for sitting at my computer much. Spending most of my time either with people, playing Fifa or watching football. It won't last. Merry Christmas fellas.

More like death growls with some kind of sounds that could make you think a little about pig squeals. Nothing to do with the constant bree-bree vocals found in so many deathcore bands.

Yeah, I got confused... I was talking about Gorgoroth.
So GORGOROTH is a plateau in Mordor.

Most metalheads today are actually more fans of hardcore and emocore and metalcore and shit. They idolise Enter Shikari and Bring Me The Horizon and Amity Affliction. Gang vocals, shitty synth, repetitive chords, one note chugs, Hot Rod sound clips, and screams so bad they're only out done in shittiness by the clean vocal choruses.
To those metalheads, Opeth and Dream Theater suck. To those metalheads, power metal sucks, black metal sucks, progressive metal sucks, folk metal sucks, and Avenged Sevenfold is cool.

This has hurted me deepjly. Batman should forever be fourth horsemen. He earned that title, he IS the FOURTH HORSEMEN OF THE METAL HELL. Bahamut and Nev and Duff should be like the 5th 6th and 7th haha. I still think Bill has the right to say I AM FOURTH HORSEMEN, WELCOME TO HELL! Especially since he has a new laptop.
Yeah I'm stoned again.
Tomorrow I'm dropping acid for the first time, what music should I listen to guys?
Also, got Deathspell Omega's Paracletus. Weird album, I dig it though.
Hey maybe I should listen to Deathspell Omega on acid.

I've heard many people claiming that statement. It does have some of the weakest Blind Guardian tracks to date. Songs like The New Order hardly stick out well to me. That aside, it's still an album I enjoy.

I've got the impression that the people who don't like Opeth and Dream theater are the ones who listen to a lot of thrash and death metal and they think that Opeth and DT are gay and not brutal enough.

Yes they are.

Dream Theater are great, now shut the fuck up you people. They are prog legends and wrote some of the greatest melodic metal ever.

Yeah, they're gay. Also. Lol brutal? Shit, it has nothing to do with them not being brutal, not to mention the fact that kind of music isn't brutal. The only kind of person who would find a fault with something for not being br00tal would be a scene kid. Or a neanderthal.

Of course you would say that. They wank for the fanbois. Fanbois love wank. They're pretty much a joke. The only good thing Dream Theater did for prog is expose the people who think instrumental talent supersedes songwriting and taste.
I just found out Timeghoul might release their debut album in 2012.

Yeah right, and now you go on my last.fm page and realise my favorite album by them is Images And Words. Good job on prooving you are still just a judgemental elitist teenage metalhead troll...
There is absolutely NO wanking on Images and Words, and the songwriting is unbelievable. Each and every song stands out with a unique sound, song structure and feeling. Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle And The Sleeper and Learning To Live are amongs some of the greatest prog metal songs ever written. Surrounded, is one of my favorite songs EVER.
And now, I will make you stfu once and for all with that stupid "technical-wank fan" tag you are trying to stick to me. If I was a fan of wank, I would choose Brain Drill or Beneath The Massacre over Origin, Dream Theater or Blood Red Throne.
You see, there is wankery, and there is quality songwriting that involves technical instrumental. If the one and only argument you have against technical music is your bullshit "they just wank" argument, than I suggest you just stop, cause this is going nowhere, we already know how much you hate tech-death, no use for further discussions on the matter.
I like good technical music that involves technical elements, and I hate wank. END OF THE STORY.
Is this a bad time to ask for you guys to recommend me some progressive metal?

Adramelch. Fates Warning fans should also check them out.
Anacrusis. Prog thrash.
Coroner. More prog thrash.
Also Fates Warning, Psychotic Waltz, Queensrÿche. I haven't really listened to them much, but from what I've heard by them, they're pretty good.
I've randomly decided to listen to Machine Head. Other than their name and being metal, I knew nothing about them.
I've only been listening to a few of the albums they have on Spotify, starting at the oldest which is 'Burn My Eyes'. I've not moved onto the second oldest available, 'The More Things Change...' and I have to say, so far I'm liking them.

Don't ever listen to The Burning Red or Supercharger, you'll hate them for the rest of your life, Supercharger is even worse than The Burning Red, and beside The Burning Red sucks, it still has some cool songs.. Through the ashes of an Empire has it good and bad songs but overall is not a bad album, and The Blackening is excelent. Personally I only really like Burn my Eyes and The Blackening.
Happy new year guises.

I'm listening to 'The Burning Red' right now, although it has really just been background noise since I've been doing other stuff. I wouldn't say it's been too bad so far, but I definitely preferred the last two albums I listened to.
Most bands tend to go through experimental changes at some stage or another until they realise people don't like it and want what they're used to.
Guys, I'm listening to Insomnium a last time in this "harrowing year" :) Favourite band 4 ever!!! :3 I'm an Insomnium fanboy.

It was the change of guitarist that fucked their music up in The Burning Red and Supercharger, Ahrue Luster totally looked like a Nu Metal faggot. I'm glad he left the band, and now he's playing with ill Niño, a Nu Metal band... He was replaced then by Phil Demmel, who played with Flynn in Vio-lence, and guess what? The Nu Metal style faded away. I don't know what went through Flynn's mind to let a nu metal faggot destroy Machine Head music that way... Fuck Ahrue Luster, I'm mad and angry >: (

I have to admit Daemonic, I gave up on both those albums after a heard a few songs. I think 'Burn My Eyes' is my favourite. I have a tendency to enjoy the older material of most bands over their newer stuff. I don't really know why that is. Bands just seem to make better music when they're all fresh and young.
At 12/31/10 11:18 AM, Dean wrote: Bands just seem to make better music when they're all fresh and young.
Which is why you should listen to Vio-Lence.

That's true, and it also happens, when a band have a lot of albums, their first albums are very good, then their albums between the firsts and the latests suck, like if they just released them to get some money and comply with their contracts, and then the their latest albums are good again.
But my favourite band, Insomnium, they're weird, because I prefer their latest 2 albums instead of their first 2 albums, it's like they suffered an evolution like every band should instead of getting less creative.

Symphony X - Power/Prog Band
Ayreon- Prog band with nice synth and lots of guest vocalists.
Blotted Science- Great instrumental prog band
Devin Townsend- A lot of his solo stuff is really good prog.
Fates Warning has already been mentioned, but I'll mention them again.
Gonin-Ish- Really good Japanese Progressive Death Metal.
Pain of Salvation- Cool Prog band.
And finally Xenomorph a cool prog band from Nebraska.

Fates Warning and Queensrÿche are very dependable. From what I've heard Queensrÿche have only made a few good albums with the rest being subpar. As for Fates Warning, depends which era you've heard. There's John Arch-era which are the first three albums and then there's Ray Alder era. I'm more fond of the albums with John Arch. Well, The Spectre Within and Awaken the Guardian at least.
