I picked up an album called "Higher" by an industrial metal (if you could call it that) band called Treponem Pal. It's not very good. I don't suggest it. I only got it because it was a dollar, the album cover was interesting, and I figured it would be laughably bad (which it is). Well, there's Lothloryen and Dünedain. Pretty good Power Metal bands with LOTR themed lyrics.

It's really spelled "Lothlorien" and "Dúnedain" in the books, but I'm sure that won't bother you too much. Also, Dünedain sing in Spanish.

As for Blind Guardian, you're pretty much okay starting anywhere. All their albums are pretty good.

As much as I love all their albums (even A Twist in the Myth), I don't think throwing new listeners with a random album is a good idea. Battalions of Fear isn't a typical Blind Guardian album while A Twist in the Myth is their weakest effort which might not grab the attention of new listeners very well.
