Because they're generic and basically a watered down version of real prog DM bands. Infact, I wouldn't even say watered down. I'd say bastardized. Some of my favourite bands ar Amon Amarth, Iron Maiden, Kamelot, Dream Theater, Primordial, Rammstein and Bathory. So Viking Metal mostly with some others thrown in for flavour.

Some of my other likes include video games (love them!!), computer stuff, reading, sushi, cooking (includes baking) origami, welding (Yup, seriously. I weld. Proud of it too.) doodleing....

You totally aren't man. I hear post-rock in there. Baroness have Pelican-ish riffs sometimes. I like Baroness for their unique approach. Progressive sludge, melodic metal elements, twin harmonies, and then they contrast it with minimal vocals. Seeing them live was really kick arse, my shirt got ripped to pieces in the mosh pit I started.

So you won't listen to a band if they're friends with members of a band that you don't like? That's fucking stupid. There are plenty of metal bands who are friends with members of core bands, since those guys usually don't care about some childish war between metal and other types of music.

On the subject of post-rock, I love post-rock influenced metal and post-metal. Recently I've been listening to a lot of Baroness, and I hear a lot of post-rock influence in their music, especially in the guitar work. I dunno, maybe I'm just making that up in my head.

I'm not a lot into Post-Rock, but I gut got to expand my library. I have both of If These Trees Could Talk albums. Which I recommand to everybody who likes Atmospheric music and Post-Rock.

Have you even read any of the previous posts I've made? It's not about some "war" between metal and things that are not metal. It's about the fact that -core music is basically watered down melodeath (which also sucks) with breakdowns and boy band choruses, and only appeals to the lowest common denominator. Aka. The kind of people who are prone to inbreeding. Not to mention that -core music is just bad in general.
Besides, it's not like I don't have the misfortune to be friends with people who like -core music as well. Sometimes you just have to be the better person and look past that. Which I can't. I just don't talk to them about music at all.

First of all, "random" (in the popular definition) is not actually random. Nothing is arbitrary about it; in fact, it's very formulaic. You'll notice that most people who describe themselves as "random" make the same jokes.

Secondly, it's an attempt at humor that requires no cleverness, wit or though. Being "random" gives unfunny people the illusion that they are humorous and clever, when in fact their "jokes" are devoid of any sort of comedic value.
