I'm listening to the new Solefald. I like it. I'm not very far in, though.

I didn't get many albums from this year either. Very few actually. I got Iron Maiden's album, "Kvelertak" by Kvelertak and "Warp Riders" by The Sword.
I liked all of them.

Dude are you nuts all the bands I listed are great.
I just got back from seeing Wolves in the Throne Room (for the third time) and Shrinebuilder. Awesome show, got the setlist for Shrinebuilder, WitTR played Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog, Crystal Ammunition, Cleansing, and I Will Lay Down My Bones Among The Rocks And Roots. On the topic of Hammers of Misfortune, their old bassist/vocalist Jamie Myers sings on the track A Looming Resonance on the Malevolent Grain Vinyl by WitTR, which I would class as probably one of the best songs I've ever heard, and I would recommend everyone in the hell listen to.
I'll post a picture of the setlist some other time my computer is being dumb right now.
I would really like to see Wolves In The Throne Room live. Ahrimanic Trance is one of the tracks I would like to ear the most at a live concert.

Their live show is fucking trippy man. They have like an altar surrounded by bush branches, with candles, and lamps, and when I saw them earlier this year they had some animal bones and a crows claw, fucking kvlt man.

Their shows have to be just like their music, makes sense to me :P

Ok firstly, I love bad taste. Bad taste is my thang. And secondly, I was giving you shit for being a little drama queen, your post was just begging me to make fun of you. Because it reeked of bitchiness.

I have the new Agalloch so I'll pick this up.

Fuck yeah, I would love to se Shrinebuilder. Fucking Dale Crover, Al Cisneros, Wino, Kelly Clarkson haha Scott Kelly I mean. I'm seeing Dale in a few months when I see Melvins!
Wolves would be cool I guess too, sounds trippy.
I'll post a picture of the setlist some other time my computer is being dumb right now.
Yeah what did they play? They've only released five songs haha.

And what was that comment you left when some of the guys and I were talking about Abigail Williams? It's somewhere in the last few pages... You just had to add something to th discussion, telling us how stupid we were and how shitty Abigail Williams are. If that wasn't a bitchy post...
Anyway, going back to tha metal! I read you also got Agalloch's new album. So what do you think?
Agalloch - The Watcher's Monolith
Looks like I got myself another review on Metal Archives.
But I have re-edited my review, so it's not on there anymore. Maybe it will be back on very soon.

That you should stop complaining about reviews.

I didn't say anything about Abigail Williams. I just wanted you to stop whinging.

I really like it. Completely different to AATG, less commercial sounding, a little repetitive but really nice and I couldn't help but dig it.
It's pretty disgusting that we like the same album though, ewww.

I did get a fair amount of 2010 releases myself. I have 16 albums from this year so far but to decide a definite top 5 isn't easy. I know Blind Guardian's album is at the top for me, though.

I actually started listenning to Agalloch by picking random bands from a bandwagon post you made, ages ago. I guess you are responsible of all that bullshit!
And by the way, my updated review of Marrow Of The Spirit is back on Metal Archives !!!

Not really, i've seen some MA reviews that are MASSIVE.
Overall, i'd say it's an average size review.
I want to get into Solefald, recommend me an album or two to start with.
Reading through some reviews on Metal Archives, I've ended up trying to understand, yet again, why so much people think that The New Mythology Suite, the fifth full-lenght record of the band Symphony X, is their worst album.
Most of the reviews are very positive, and most of the guys seem to believe that it's a great album. But I remember reading somewhere else, probably here, that it is their worst album.
So this is the best explanation I have found:
"Symphony X's own, "Divine Wings Of Tragedy" will always be in my mind a masterpiece and one of the greatest metal albums ever. This album in comparison is just plain weak. It contains all the musical wizardry of "DWOT" but without the passion. The emotion has been stripped and replaced with a new approach more relative to classical music. We have orchestral interludes, segues, songs with multiple movements, and music which is complex but not always accesible. Not to say that these elements aren't present on Symphony X's other releases, they certainly abound in "DWOT" and "Odyssey" alike, but they are more prominent on this release. Here on "V" they become the base and the theme of the music, unlike on the band's other releases where they are only aspects of a larger picture." - elfo19
I would like it if some of you guys could share your thoughts on this record with me. Thanks broz !!!
Symphony X - Communion And The Oracle

I'm interested to know what's MASSIVE to you. 15 paragraphs? 20?

Is that so? I thought The New Mythology Suite was a good album. Maybe not as good as The Divine Wings of Tragedy or The Odyssey but it's still worth listening to. When people say this is their worst album, do they actually insist it's worse than self-titled? I heard that album was really bad or maybe it's not as bad as I think. If there's a song worth listening to from the debut album, let me know about it.

As in, it takes scrolling down to read the whole thing. But yeah, I have seen reviews around 20 paragraphs long on an individual album before.
And by the way, Symphony X's debut album is great.
The only songs on the album I dislike are Premonition and Shades Of Grey. Every other song on it kicks ass.
And it's certainly way better than The Damnation Game, which is in all honesty, SX's weakest release.
At 12/4/10 05:37 AM, HeavenDuff wrote: why so much people think that The New Mythology Suite, the fifth full-lenght record of the band Symphony X, is their worst album.
I've only met one person ever who has claimed V is their worst album.
Almost everyone into SX I know think either Paradise Lost or The Damnation Game is their weakest.
Twilight In Olympus is still my favorite SX album though.
I think it might have been Denta or Nev who said that it was their worst album. Still The New Mythology Suite is one of my favorite albums. I guess I should get a little more into their other albums, except for Paradise Lost that I already know a lot.
Paradise Lost also gets a lot of negative critics. I think that it's due to the fact that it's the most different album in their discography.
At 12/4/10 03:31 PM, AniMetal wrote: And by the way, Symphony X's debut album is great.
It's alright. I might need some adjustments to their earlier days but it's nothing terrible.

Now I'm curious what The Damnation Game is like. I've heard a bit of Paradise Lost and it's OK but it's nothing for me to pick up right away. I suppose I can get it for the heck of it whenever they release their new album.

How many greatest hits do they have? It sucks how their greatest hits albums always show up in the music stores and hardly their actual albums.

It's a bit more straightforward than their other albums (though not so much as Paradise Lost), but I still love it. If I had to say anything bad about it, the guitar isn't loud enough, the vocals aren't that great, backing vocals are a little tacked-on and the keyboard sounds really annoying.
Personally I don't really think Symphony X has any "weak" albums (I haven't listened to their debut). But if I had to pick one it'd have to be The Odyssey. This might sound really weird, but although the title track is one of my favorite songs of all time, and Inferno and King of Terrors are great, I hate everything else on the album. I really have no idea why, I just don't like it.
Just my opinion.

No, I meant it sincerely. I have been informed that other reviews are much more colossal in size, though. Still, nice work dude.
My next post will be my 10K post, it'll be a list of all the albums of 2010 i've listened to followed by a short review of each.
Expect it in a week or two. :)
At 12/4/10 04:14 PM, HeavenDuff wrote: Paradise Lost also gets a lot of negative critics. I think that it's due to the fact that it's the most different album in their discography.
I wouldn't say it's the most different, I think their debut or V wins that.
I think it's because the songs drag on, their riffs are kind of uninspired and forgettable(Still good though), the vocals aren't on the same level of quality their earlier albums had, their lyrics just sucked and the fact you can't hear the keyboards on most of the songs except during keyboard solos.
That being said, Paradise Lost has the best drums they've ever had and the best bass they've ever had with the sole exception of on divine wings.
Also, i'm not big into The Odyssey either. The Odyssey, King Of terrors and the turning are all great songs. Accolade II, Inferno, Wicked, Incant ions Of The Apprentice, etx. are really whatever. (although inferno is really kickass live)

The debut album takes a while to get into, that's it.
The damnation game is just boring, predictable and quite frankly - very generic.
it has some good solos and very catchy chorus's, but that's it really.
The Damnation Game, Edge Of Forever and A Winter's Dream: Part two are the only songs actually good. The rest of the album is totally 100% forgettable and not worth the money.

Whispers? Savage Curtain? Dressed to Kill? The Haunting? You seriously don't like them?
Also, both parts of A Winter's Dream are terrible.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to think that. The title track, Paradise Lost as some of the greatest bass and drums ever recorded in the history of music.

No, they are Nu-Metal. A mix of Hard Rock, some Rap, some little melodic metal elements. Recently they became more of an Alternative Rock band to me.
Some guy wrote this message to me on my last.fm:
"Hey, I just read your Agalloch review on MA! Good stuff. I just wanted to point that the reason for the drastic difference in production between albums is because Agalloch recorded Marrow Of The Spirit entirely analog." -Hammerheart15
I fail to understand what he means by "entirely analog". You guys care to help me a little with this?
