Because they don't want to be lusted after by greasy metal fanboys.

Can anybody recommend me some bands with female band members?

Sigh has a female member, she plays the keyboard.

No. They're all terrible. You asked for bands with female members. Not good bands bands with female members. So, following the tradition:
Arch Enemy, iwrestledabearonce, Winds of Plague, and Walls of Jericho.

You can easily tell going through his shit list of reviews that he's another of these pathetic pricks that need to bash on core music to boost their own confidence.

I still think the worst from MA is this guy. He seems far too zero bombing happy at times. Oh and then there's random high ratings for some albums.

Why do you care reviewing music you plainly hate? IMO, reviews are for the people who enjoy the band. Only useful reviews with low scores are those written by fans of the band who think the album is not good. It's like asking a Death Metal fan to write a review to the newest Blind Guardian album. How could it possibly relevant?

Although I haven't made many reviews, I'm sure I apply to the third sentence. I have made some negative reviews before (Stratovarius' self-titled and Helloween's Unarmed) but those bands are relevant to my interests. I may review albums of bands that I don't like but again, it'll be relevant to my interests.

The only album I know I'd ever give a 0% on the Archives is Metallica's St. Anger but they already have enough reviews for that piece of shit. And besides, Goatchrist already did a good job at tearing it a new one. However, it seems his review for it has been taken down. It was probably MA being arses about deleting some reviews to make way for better ones.

I know someone who was on MA during the earlier days and reviewed popular submissions such as Reign in Blood but over the recent years they've taken down his reviews simply because they're not as detailed as newer reviews. I find that bullshit since those reviews were made when the site didn't have very high expectations for reviews.

At 12/2/10 12:59 AM, Xarnor wrote: I think it's pointless to read reviews on music, unless you're planning on buying an album and you can't preview the music.

That's one of the reasons why I like to read reviews. I want to know if an album I'm interested is worth buying or not. Sure, it's never a good idea to just rely on MA for recommendations but they are one of the few factors I'd put into consideration when it comes to deciding whether a particular album is worth getting or not. Infact, for this reason, I really want to review albums with little to no reviews more often so if others are trying to decide whether to get a certain album or not, they could see my review and maybe I'll convince them to pick it up.

Another thing I like about reviews is what others say about a particular part of a song. If someone made a descriptive thought on why the intro for Slough Feg's Warriors Dawn kicks ass, there'd be a big smile on my face.

An album I could do with reviewing on MA is Budgie's Never Turn Your Back on a Friend. Right now it only has one review and just a single review isn't enough to convince someone to pick up the album incase it's a bad album that not too many people have come across.

At 12/2/10 11:43 AM, K2LU wrote: Can anybody recommend me some bands with female band members?

Hammers of Misfortune, for sure! I admit, I do have troubles finding many bands whose female members do an excellent performance for the band overall. That's why I was so pleased when I listened to Hammers of Misfortune's The August Engine. Not only is it like Slough Feg but it also has great female vocals.

Actually I prefer St. Anger over Load and ReLoad. Sure the production were bad and the vocals weren't all that great either, but it was aggressive. I do wish they wouldn't have removed the guitar solos though.

I don't think the production was that bad, but it definitely lacked the atmosphere of their earlier stuff.

Second problem, is a problem I never had with any other Agalloch album before, I think some parts are just too long or don't have a significant progression in it, so they tend to get boring.

I've always thought that about Agalloch, but I like it for some reason.

During the seventh minute of this song, Haughm starts screaming like he never did before on any Agalloch record.

I really, really didn't like that part. It doesn't suit their style.

Those are splitted in parts. Why not do the same thing for this album?

Exactly what I was thinking! I thought the big, multi-part atmospheric epic was their 'thing'.

While this is not my favorite album by them, it is still a great add to Agalloch's discography.

Even if I don't really like it as much as you, I agree. Great album, just not on par with their other stuff.

What were your favorite songs on the album?

That's actually what I am talking about. Leaving reviews for bands playing something that is relevant to your interests.

It's not worth a 0%. Some of the riffs were good. As a whole, the album was bad. Even some of the lyrics were good. I'd still give it at least 15% or something like this.

I'd say the 2nd to the 5th tracks are all awesome. The last one is pretty cool, but definitely not my favorite. And the intro song felt kind of misplaced to me.

If I had to pick one, I don't know which one it would be. Probably Black Lake Niðstång, as it goes through a lot of different moods and has a great energy build-up.

It's great that you shared your thoughts on the album with me. Thanks :)

Btw, in the booklet, at the end you can read: "All lyrics written by Haughm in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains, March 2010." If that isn't fucking kvlt !!!

We've already discussed that matter. If you can't assume that you are jealous the title was given to me and not to you, that's your own problem. Still, I don't think I need to remind you that Ponos said "you should have been aborted". Now, if that isn't a low-blow, a useless insult that was totally uncalled for. All I did was state my opinion on the purpose of reviews and this kid reacts like this?

That's how he always is and he knows it, that doesn't give you the right to scoop to his level if you are "better" than him.

I hate to say it Duff but AniMetal has a point here. The way you went on a tangent with Ponos and saying "So just shut your fucking crack smoking dirty mouth before your father stick is dick in there." just shows a huge lack of maturity. Yes, Ponos' comment may have not been appropriate but you shouldn't take the bait, Duff. You're one of the four horsemen here who's taking care of this thread and deciding who's welcome here and who isn't quite ready yet. You should be setting an example to others.

If the guy insults me, it's my right to fight back. There is just no good excuse like "he always was like that" or any shit like this. Plus, I've heard better jokes, seriously. Saying someone should have been aborted is the exact definition of bad taste. If it was even a joke...

Anyway, on the topic of METAL

I really like the band Sigh, and I know this band was suggested to me by someone from the Metal Hell. I've seen it suggested quite a few times since then. And most of the time, the first album recommandation is Hangman's Hymn. I think it's strange though, that one of the most popular album by a Black-Metal/Avant-Garde Metal is the most thrashy. In fact, I don't even understand why we talk about this record as a avant-garde black metal album as it is seriously much more of a Thrash Metal album.

Just my thoughts...

Anyway. Back on the topic of bands with female members. Let me redefine the topic. Good bands with female members. So here's a few to get started.
Holy Moses (female vocalist)
Nuclear Death (female vocalist/bassist
Bolt Thrower (female bassist)
Sacrilege (UK) (female vocalist)

9. Firewind

Such an amazing band. I don't know about this one record, but they have a nice library.

8. Lamb Of God

What a stupid choice...

7. Pantera

Not only are they a very average band... but he picked a "reissue" as part of his top ten? That's just dumb...

6. Korn

No

5. Halford

Alright I guess... Judas Priest is still better IMO.

4. Slash

Like... the guy who doesn't play metal? Yeah! That guy!

3. Motorhead

is pretty much alright. Haven't heard of this record though.

2. Black Label Society

I don't know them a lot. I guess they still make decent music.

Peccatum is nice. It's Ihsahn and his wife, Ihriel. As I just mentioned Julie Christmas, Battle of Mice ain't bad. I'm not that into them, though. There's a technical death metal band called Sinner's Bleed that used to have a female vocalist, who is actually pretty good at death vocals. She's not in the band anymore, though. Alkonost is decent Russian Folk metal with female vocals, though a lot of their stuff is pretty samey.

I definitely second Electric Wizard, Boris, Kylesa, Acid King, and Gonin-Ish. I haven't listened to Hammers of Misfortune in a long time, though. But I liked them when I last listened.

Strangly... no matter how great they are... older musicians... do not seem to know what good metal is... or maybe they are still stuck in the 80's, back when metal was very popular and they think that these new bands, are the next generations of metalheads.

I didn't get a lot of new albums this year. So I have Obsidian Conspiracy by Nevermore... which is their worst album so far... 12 Gauge, by Kalmah, which is one of the best melodic death metal albums ever :). For Aeons Past by Solution .45, and while this band is kind of good, they are still not as good as Scar Symmetry was. And of course, we got the new Agalloch. Which is a great album :)
