The album Dopethrone by Electric Wizard, is a masterpiece of Stoner Doom Metal.

Liz wasn't in Electric Wizard back then though :P.

I fail to understand what he means by "entirely analog". You guys care to help me a little with this?

I think that's just without using computers. Maybe. I'm not sure.

Is it me or the review system on Metal Archives is horrible?

I was lurking through the reviews of Dopethrone by Electric Wizard and I realised it's the album with the lowest average score amongs their full-lenght records (except for the self-titled album). So I went through all the reviews and saw one with a 0%...

Withtout this review the average score would be of 85% and not 76%. It's kind of silly that one guy can make the average score take a 9% drop...

I think Metal Archives should judge the 100% and 0% reviews differently then they do the other scores. If someone is going to give a score of 0 to 5 or 95 to 100, they should really read these reviews more carefuly before putting them on their website... Especially if one of these reviews can make the score change so much... It's basically just not representative of people's opinions.

It's like that example one of my teachers used in economy class. IF there are three guys discussing their salary, one of them gets $80 000 dollars a year, the two others gets $65 000 and $61 000, the average salary would be of $68 667... but then if another guy joins in and that he gets $2 000 000 a year... than the average would be of $517 166. That's soooo representative of the average salary of these guys... right?

Sorry about that rant... I just think it's fucked up...

Response to Metal Hell 2010-12-04 20:26:26

Yes, they're infuriating, thats why you have to ignore them and not care. At the end of the day they're peoples opinions and they're entitled to them.
And if someone is going to look at the review % and judge on that then they're idiots, especially on a site dedicated to Metal (which as we all know has a fanbase full of cocks). Normal people checking out reviews will look at the words written too. And in that aspect the reviews are fine as you can see the reviews from the pricks a mile away.

You are obviously right. This is basically why I'm making this point. If you can see these reviews from miles away, why is it that Metal Archives allow this to happen?

While the words are far more important than the actual score, the score is still the first thing you notice, and I think anyone who has some kind of brains would give at keast a few points to ANY and ALL records, except of course, if you really believe that there never was a worst record in the world... Reading through this guy's review, I've seen him give a 30% review to Hangman's Hymn by Sigh. While I totally disagree with the words in the review... at least he had the decency of giving a few points at least...

Cause of the whole opinions thing. Some people clearly genuinely think that some albums are worthless. Their voices have a right to be heard. And if they're well argued MA can't really have a problem, thats the whole points of reviews, to allow for balance. Even the side of the argument thats full of tits.

While the words are far more important than the actual score...

Some people are like that. As I said, as Metal fans we're more accustomed to this than others. There's been plenty in this thread at one time or another :P.

Better hurry up, the next Pentalist update is in two weeks time. ;)

The Damnation Game, Edge Of Forever and A Winter's Dream: Part two are the only songs actually good. The rest of the album is totally 100% forgettable and not worth the money.

For a band that I enjoy a lot, I'll end up getting all their albums. I already got some of Stratovarius' bad albums as well as Judas Priest so the same thing will happen to Symphony X and others. Black Sabbath on the other hand, I already decided to avoid some of their later albums at all costs.

I thought we already established this. :P But yeah, like I said before, it's very flawed and I'm hardly considering those moronic 0% reviews when I say that.

I highly doubt it's Megadeth themselves who take care of their Facebook page. The Blind Guardian page is managed by their webmaster. I assume the webmaster of Megadeth's website also takes care of their Facebook page.

I actually enjoyed the Damnation Game a lot. More so than the debut album. Not that the debut album is bad by any means, it's just I think everything with Russel Allen as the vocalist blows them the debut out of the water. I think all of Symphony X's albums are worth having, so I recommend trying to pick them up. The only one I don't own currently is Twilight in Olympus.

Who gives a shit.

And your question, what does completely analog mean?

It means it was recorded with old equipment the way they used to make Vinyl. The music is recorded on to big roles of tape.

Electric Wizard did it on Witchcult Today. The new Electric Wizard is a bit boring.

The new Agalloch is nice though, I like it.

I should get Solefald's new album.

Nev, Solefald's best album is Neonism. Pills Against The Ageless Ills is great, and In Harmonia Universali is really good too. Their debut is a bit too weird. The Icelandic Oddysey albums are a bit iffy but enjoyable nonetheless.

Age of Silence are fantastic though, I want a new album from them soon.

And Symphony X is ok, I'm not that big on their sound, but I like em.

When taking part in the managment of anything related to a band, anyone who speaks in the name of the band should be aware of this. So yeah, maybe it's not Megadeth itself, but it's a guy who speaks in their name.

Btw guys, I suggest that we stop judging the people who want to join by a 10 metal bands list. From now on, we should give them membership, only if they can complete the Absolutego Challenge !!! The goal of the challenge is to listen to the entire album Absolutego, without ever pausing it.
What do you guys say? :P

Anyway, list all the Metal stuff you own (t-shirt, arm bands, posters, but not albums or vinyls).
