I just god Oracles last night. These guys are pretty fucking sick.
One thing I'm noticing about pretty much all tech death bands is that none of them can surpass Obscura's Cosmegenesis. Why? LACK OF VARIATION. I have yet to hear more than one song by a tech death band besides Obscura that's in a major key.
Besides maybe Fleshwrought, but they're almost as triggered as Insidious, which I'm still not sure I like.
Antithesis by Origin?
Icon by Benighted?
Altered Genesis by Blood Red Throne?

Do you think that these have a lack of variation?

Man, you know I love all of those albums. I never said they are not varied, I just said that I haven't heard many or any songs that are in a major key.
Variation and major keys are two different things.

My bad, sorry...

Actually, reading back over my post, I kinda did say that lack of major key usage and lack of variation are the same thing.

Whoops.

I guess my main point is that with the exception of a few (i.e. Obscura, Origin, Fleshgod, The Faceless) I'm really starting to realize just how many bullshit failed attempts at skillful, varied tech death there are out there.

No response necessary, Duff.

Also, for that one pop-core band I posted. I really wanna go to a show of one of these bands and see how many people I can knock out cold before people start crying.

God. To think I know people who actually like this shit.

it actually wasn't on their setlist, the crowd chanted it for like two minutes while the band paced awkwardly back and forth on stage. Then finally hansi was like "NO" into the mic, then caved and they started playing it. :D

So if I want them to play Majesty next time, I better chant Majesty and hopefully the crowd will follow.

But if you do like to have these philosophical debates on arts, you would be more then welcomed if you could give me your opinions on the matter.

It's better to leave things be. Stepping in and arguing about it doesn't do both sides any favours. Infact, the thread became more about those debates than asking people their favourite metal bands after you stepped in.

Oh shit. I see you said death metal 101 now. My list was meant to introduce him to bands with less guttural vocal styles, since gutturals are usually a turn off to people just getting into death metal. Oh well. I still think my list is good. But if you want death metal 101.
The basics pretty much go as: Morbid Angel (AoM), Obituary (SWR), Death (SBG), Suffocation, Incantation, Immolation, Malevolent Creation, Necrophagia, Master, Deceased, Blasphemy, Cancer, Cynic (demos), Autopsy, Dismember, Entombed, and Demilich.

Someone here recommended Into Eternity and I thought they were great. They sounded power metal at times but death was blended in it as well. They had an excellent vocalist and some pretty cool leads on the guitar. Good band.

I had the chance to that with this young man earlier today via the PM system. He knows his stuff pretty well and is really interrested in learning about different genres. I think he's going to be a good recruit :)

A few seconds with Google found this Cynic demo site.

Also, did you check out those Demilich demos I posted to your Last.FM? If you like Nespithe, you'll like their demos too. Great stuff.

Why not ask yourself if it's even worth debating in the first place? Like I said, the thread just turned into a debate about what's metal and what isn't. Except for making a few comments, you should have just dropped it.

You talking about the live performance or the song itself? Necropolis is a great song and stands as one of my favourite Manilla Road songs right now. As for the live performance, I didn't like the sound of the drums and Mark Shelton didn't sound very enthusiastic here.

Unless you mean prior to that. But I didn't think it was that long, I vaguely remember a gig a couple of years back.
Now Manowar, theres a band that never tour the UK :(.

The unreasonable cunts.
I was only getting into these bands then and my sister wasn't even a metal fan of the time. I'm sure they'll appear at Bloodstock again sometime but that depends on when they're there and if I plan to go there.

I wouldn't count on it. Only Opeth are allowed to play BOA more than once every few years :P. BG are too good to appear there regularly :(.

I actually hate the "METAL FUCK YEAH" attitude that every metal frontman puts on at their show, even if they don't otherwise act like that.

So debating is not worth it... because?

I guess you are not getting my point. It's not the argument on what is metal and what isn't, that I'm talking about. I still think that this is the right place to explain people what is and what isn't metal. Like you know, it's not all metal fans who come to the Metal Hell. So a lot of metal fans just lurk around on the General forum and come across a Metal thread. How is it bad to explain them how Rammstein is not Metal?

Still, that's not the point. I was talking about the objectivity in arts. Everytime I talk about quality and ask that philosophical question: "Is artistic value subjective or objective, and to what extant?", you guys start complainning about how stupid I am and how much of a dumbass I am for starting these arguments...

I still think that the answer is not quite obvious, and that music fans should ask themselves that question. It's cool to know a lot about music, arts, techniques and all that shit. But I think it's great to ask ourselves these questions...

It's boring anyway to have stupid threads filled with bandwagons.... Nobody is ever quoting any other user. They just post their list, get their +1 post, and get the fuck out of the thread. Moving away from the original subject is not so bad, and still we kept discussing Metal bands...

At 11/25/10 02:11 PM, Xarnor wrote: So why is no one fond of Lamb of God? I only listen to one album of theirs, Wrath. Personally, as a drummer, I love the sound of LoB's drums, especially the snare. The guitars have a great full sound. I suppose they are kind of simple, and as a minimalist I can enjoy that, but then most people would think of that simplicity as a negative trait.

Chris Adler, the drummer of Lamb Of God has been a part of Blotted Science for a while before he was replaced by Charlie Zeleny of the band Behold... The Arctopus. If you are a drummer, you will probably like Lamb Of God, for Chris Adler is a pretty good drummer.

I don't have Lamb Of God. I think they are a pretty cool band. I just hate the vocalist's attitude.

I'd say Crystal Logic is a good place to start. I only have their first four albums so far but I have a feeling Crystal Logic is the gateway album for Manilla Road. All the albums of theirs I have are definitely worth listening to (i.e. Invasion, Metal, Crystal Logic and Open the Gates). I was hoping to ask for some of their albums for Christmas but the rarity of their CDs won't make it easy on my family members to hunt them down.

Liquid Tension Experiment (obvious)
SikTh (you're probably the only person that would like these, given theres a sizeable hardcore influence in there).
