Unfortunately they're coming here as well in a couple weeks but I just can't afford it. Not to mention I'm going to Gwar the night before Blind Guardian. I'm sure they'll be back, hopefully when im employed than.

Welcome back, Bonemill!

I got some more metal.

Mekong Delta - Dances of Death
Mekong Delta - Kaleidoscope
Ihsahn - Angl
Ihsahn - After
John Petrucci - Suspended Animation
Negura Bunget - Virstele Pamintului
Kylesa - Time Will Fuse Its Worth
Kylesa - Static Tensions
Zebulon Pike - And Blood Was Passion
Zebulon Pike - II: the Deafening Twilight
Celtic Frost - Into the Pandemonium
Black Math Horseman - Wyllt
Lesbian - Stratospheria Cubensis
Kailash - Past Changing Fast

I haven't yet listened to a lot of these. And I seem to have lost Zebulon Pike - Intransience. It's not on my Zune anymore.

Blind Guardian only tour the states every four years, Gwar tour the states like twice a year. Plus GWAR are only fun, Blind Guardian are legitimately great.

Dude, some kid that's in some local core band that I graduated with went and saw them live, and one of the dudes (I guess you can call them dudes) from that band tried to kiss him. I laughed so fucking hard.

While I agree I have to say I enjoyed GWAR more than I did Blind Guardian. As a night out like. Blind Guardian were incredible, and seeing them at a fest made it better (being in the open air at night is my favourite type of gig setting). But I had a great time seeing GWAR, and the soaking they give you is so refreshing.
Merch folk must love GWAR too; hundreds of people coming outside in the cold English night, soaking wet and desperate for a dry tshirt to avoid hypothermia. The guy I bought mine off literally shove all his tshirts in front of the door. I didn't give it a moments hestitation.

But yeah, both up there on my favourite shows list. But I'd go see GWAR again before BG.

WELL. I already had my Gwar tickets for like monthes before I knew BG were coming, and i've only recently started listening to Blind Guardian so if I went i'd probably be really unfamiliar with the setlist. And Gwar is tons of fun, they do come basically every year but I have yet to be unimpressed. Gonna pull out my blood soaked shirt for round 3 of Gwar's antics.

But, GWAR tour so often and Blind Guardian only tour every four years. (festivals don't count)

And for someone in North America, we don't even get BG on our festivals. So if you don't see blind guardian, you'll be waiting till 2014.

Let me know what these sound like, I have two other Kylesa albums and they're pretty different, I'm guessing they change a bit every album. I'm seeing them live in March so I want to listen to heaps before I see them.

Zebulon Pike - And Blood Was Passion
Zebulon Pike - II: the Deafening Twilight

What are these guys like?

Lesbian - Stratospheria Cubensis

OH SHIT NEW LESBIAN I have their first album, it's so weird. Thanks for the heads up man I'll be getting this.

I was disappointed seeing GWAR last time a few years back. Though, I guess I can't blame them or anything, since I was more disappointed with the fan base at the time. I had gone to their shows before, but that year I noticed that there seemed to had been a really strong ''hardcore'' mentality to the audience and especially the pit.
I'm not sure if I can explain it properly, but every metal show I go to, there is just an etiquette amongst everyone. ya it's the pit and it can be brutal, but I've seen metalheads go through great lengths to pick people up and make sure they don't get trampled to death either around here, and along the fact that the pit itself is just that standard metal pit I guess.

Then the hardcore kids have that wail around, throwing themselves at each other pit. Whoever comes out with an inch gash is cooler etc..
This last show seemed to be fused between the two, which made me nervous that GWAR was attracting a metalcore-ish base around Montreal or something, though I don't understand how. I don't care if that gets me in trouble with those who like metalcore, I still hate their pits and shit.

I remember ditching the front and the pit, and felt rather disappointed since I hate being anywhere else.
Maybe it was just that year, or show, or bad luck. Fuck, maybe it's me. But I hadn't bothered to go back to a GWAR show since.

Either way, the Blind Guardian show I went to, was fantastic for all the opposite reasons. It was so much more personal, and passionate. Maybe I'm just being girly, but I like to feel a connection with the rest of the audience I'm there with.

Yeah, this is true. The last time they toured in the UK was in 2006. I was only getting into these bands then and my sister wasn't even a metal fan of the time. I'm sure they'll appear at Bloodstock again sometime but that depends on when they're there and if I plan to go there. If not, then my next time seeing them live is whenever they make another album.

One thing I'm noticing about pretty much all tech death bands is that none of them can surpass Obscura's Cosmegenesis. Why? LACK OF VARIATION. I have yet to hear more than one song by a tech death band besides Obscura that's in a major key.

Besides maybe Fleshwrought, but they're almost as triggered as Insidious, which I'm still not sure I like.

it actually wasn't on their setlist, the crowd chanted it for like two minutes while the band paced awkwardly back and forth on stage.

Then finally hansi was like "NO" into the mic, then caved and they started playing it. :D

it's exactly why power metal, thrash metal and folk metal shows are so much better and funner than any death metal, black metal, doom metal, etc. shows.

Altered Genesis by Blood Red Throne?

Do you think that these have a lack of variation?

I blame it on Bam Margera. Seriously, if any band gets invited to Viva La Bam, it's unnavoidable that core kids will starting going to their show.

GWAR is a very popular band also... And like a lot of Metal bands that will get media attention, it will attract core kids there. Core kids like what's popular, so as long as you don't see your favorite bands on MTV, you know you are safe.

Plus, you saw that show in Montreal. Don't get me wrong, Montreal is a great city for Metal. But wherever Metal goes, core parasites follow, feeding on Metal's success.

Has anyone here listened to Sabbat? They are a pretty good thrash metal band from the UK. I suggest checking them out.

ALSO! I would like some good death metal recs for myself. Preferably things that sound like later day Death (Symbolic and The Sound of Perserverance). But any quality death metal would be good!

Sorry for double-post guys, but there is this thread in the General forum, named Best Metal Bands? and I've posted massive rants on the matter of subjectivity and objectivity in arts. I know we had this discussion in here before, and a lot of you guys don't care about all this. But if you do like to have these philosophical debates on arts, you would be more then welcomed if you could give me your opinions on the matter.
