I'm with you on this one... But Cannibal Corpse is the Death Metal band that is the most well-known amongs non-metal fans. Because of all the controversy surrounding them because of their album covers, lyrical themes and band t-shirts, they get a lot of attention from the mainstream media. So usually, people who aren't into metal, will only be able to name one DM band when asked about this genre and that is CC.
In fact, I'm pretty sure a lot of people like to believe metal is all about that kind of bullshit. It's pretty damn cool to be judgemental, throwing opinions around on matters you don't know. I'm pretty sure that these people who like to complain on Metal, would be really dissapointed to learn that Metal is not all like CC. Learning this kind of thruth is dissapointing to people who like to whine all the time.
Just think about when that guy from Twisted Sisters faced some judges who were accusing him of some bullshit like being satanist or whatever. Every single time he prooved them wrong, they just came back with another stupid complaint. A lot of people need what we call a "bouc émissaire" in French. A scapegoat for all shit that his going wrong in our society. Just think about Marylin Manson and Colombine... or Megadeth and Dawson College (in Montreal). Metal is always a scapegot...

Another thing that never stops to amaze me, is how people think it's okay to see people getting butchered, murdered and mutilated in movies like Saw or think that it's okay when Stephen King write books about people getting raped, eaten alive, than raped again. BUT, when it comes to writting MUSIC with these kind of lyrical themes, then it's all fucking wrong !!!
I mean... all forms of art have gore related themes. In how many plays, paintings, books or movies have we seen murders, rapes, cannibalism and blood splatters? But when it comes to music, than it's all wrong.... Why ??
