this isn't really a band fanbase, but some of my least favorite fans are these guys: those dudes that have been listening to cannibal corpse and nile and dying fetus or suffocation for a few months and think that death metal is THE HEAVIEST SHIT EVER.
I think a lot is down to how you actually view it. I can see why people do think that type of DM is really brutal, but it me its always sounded so fake (for lack of a better term). You can go on to say that the more obscure BDM is heavier but to me it just sounds even more phoney.
But after listening to Dystopia, Carcass and early Exodus I've found that I think that stuff is the most brutal, just because of how raw and genuinely aggressive it feels. But you're going to get that when your lyrics are 'Break into a scientists lab, vivisect the fucker, stab him to death' and 'bang your head against the stage' as opposed to 'I spunk in their dismembered .... yawn....'
And I would of loved to have grown up in America around the time Thrash and Death (not the genre, just Death) took off.
also, what's up with nerds and geeks and dorks getting into metal?
Is that really an issue that can be raised on this forum? This is Newgrounds, after all.
i feel like for every stereotypical hardass metalhead, there's ten kids whose lives have centered around dungeons and dragons, computer software and 4chan since they were twelve. maybe this is just something i see where i live, but from what i can see, many "nerdy" guys somehow get into listening to metal in their high school years.
It'll be that whole outsider thing.
But I reckon that a much larger majority of Metalheads are nerds than your hard ass bearded blokes. Maybe theres a lot of nerds with beards but the image of the biker dudes who beat the shit out of hippies always come to mind when I think of Classic Rock more than Metal. Sure they've probably crossed over somewhere when they were drinking shots off Lemmys testicles, but I don't think they'd look upon you favourably if you played them some Blotted Science.

As a matter of fact, this. I've recalled many arrogant Pantera fans. Some even insisted they were the fastest band ever...
That Pantera fan I met letting me slap him in the face as hard as I could when drunk was one of the best moments of my life.
