Bit of a specific request here, does anyone know of any Guitar/Drums 2 piece bands? I only know of Black Cobra and Pombagira, and I'm very interested in the diversity that can be created within the confines of 2 instruments.

Well, the only metal band I can think of is Om, and that's bass/drums.
There are a lot of non-metal bands that are bass/drums or guitar/drums:
- The Black Keys (alt/blues rock)
- Lightning Bolt (noise)
- The White Stripes (alt/blues rock)
- Death From Above 1979 (noise/dance punk)
- Japanther (noise rock) - they play other instruments too, but it's just two guys

... and incredible.
Metal-Archives finally got around to checking my resubmission for my latest review and here's The Lord Weird Slough Feg's Traveller. Some of you will already know how good this album is but I wanted to express it myself.

I've listened to many of their songs and only a few stick out.
Blotted Science on the other hand is amazing.
Can't really judge them by one song but I'm sure I'll enjoy their other stuff.

Today, there was a big thread yesterday and about 100 people said he should be a mod, although that wasn't the only reason.

I don't really care you know... Dave Mustaine always said AC/DC was one of the greatest influences of Megadeth... and I never got into AC/DC and I still love Megadeth.
Still, no matter how much Webster was influenced by Slayer, Blotted Science doesn't sound anything like Slayer.
Btw, grats Bahamut :)

I like Power Metal and Cowboys From Hell. That's about it.

Haven't really heard much of their stuff. What I have heard is okay-ish.

Love the first five albums and Death Magnetic. Don't mind Load and ReLoad. Don't like St. Anger
Tool
I'm not all that into Tool, but I like what little I've heard.
Disturbed
Probably the best Modern Rock band out there. Although that's not really saying much.
Alice in Chains
Never really listened to them.
Black Sabbath
Can you really say anything about Black Sabbath? I mean...they're fucking Black Sabbath.
Deathstars
You mean Swedish Rammstein?
Also, I got Mael Mórdha's Manannán. Album of the fucking year right there.

YES SWEDISH RAMMSTEIN
Am I the only one here that likes Deathstars? Jesus Christ.
I guess saying you like Deathstars is the equivalent of saying you like Anal Cunt...you're a dumbass if you do.
I'm really starting to listen to Voivod again. I really like them, because they are kinda unique, with weird sci-fi lyrics and jazz influenced thrash guitar. Any other bands like them, especially their album Nothingface?

I'm actually a fan of both Deathstars and Anal Cunt, so I guess that makes me a double-dumbass or something.
Liking industrial metal that isn't Godflesh? I am disappointed.

Why do you assume I'm trying to amuse you? I couldn't give a fuck if you got mauled by a bear.

Yay, you like Deathstars.
Then again, you like A.C....kind of cancels out the awesomeness...

What's a good ministry album to check out? I haven't really listened to them before but i've heard about them a lot.
Anyway I went to see Exodus, Malevolent Creation, Holy Grail, Bonded By Blood and Lich King yesterday and it was BRUTAL!
Exodus's setlist for those who are interested:
1- The ballad of Leonard and Charles
2- Beyond the Pale
3- Iconoclasm
4- Children of a Worthless God
5- Piranha
6- Fabulous Disaster
7- Deathamphetamine
8- Blacklist
9- Don't make any promises (Scorpions cover, with bob tyrell on guitar)
10- Throwdown
11- War is my Shepherd
12- Toxic Waltz
ENCORE:
13- Bonded by blood
14- Strike of the Beast
15- Good Riddance
I was really happy with that setlist, until this morning somebody sent me a exodus setlist from 1993:
1- Metal Command
2- A Good Day To Die
3- Fabulous Disaster
4- Parasite
5- Bonded By Blood
6- Bitch!
7- Brain Dead
8- Architect of pain
ENCORE:
9- Toxic Waltz
10- Thrash Under Pressure
Fuck, I would've loved to see that setlist live with zetro instead of rob douche...

Rio Grande Blood, it's their most metal and probably the best I would say.
At 8/28/10 11:15 PM, SomaGuye wrote:At 8/28/10 10:35 PM, AniMetal wrote: What's a good ministry album to check out? I haven't really listened to them before but i've heard about them a lot.Rio Grande Blood, it's their most metal and probably the best I would say.
It's borderline thrash at certain points. I can say with a straight face that Rio Grande Blood is one of the fastest, neck-breaking, albums I've ever heard. I think it's required listening for metal in general, not just for industrial. While I adore Godflesh, they aren't as easy to get into due to their noise influence (it's one of those things that has to grow on you).
Here I am, bored with everything.
I was discussing Nattens Madrigal on the MA forums and this guy said he preferred "As the Wolves Gather" by Forgotten Woods and "Anno Domini" by Tormentor. I havn't listened to those but I have my doubts as to whether they're better black metal albums than Nattens Madrigal, which is my pick for greatest black metal album ever. You guys heard those?
Any progressive music reccomendations? They'd would be fantastic guys. That's what I usually come here for. I went and downloaded that Ministry album. Listen to that later.

Fates Warning:
No Exit - 1988 (It's like progressive thrash metal)
Perfect Symmetry - 1989 (It's like early 90's dream theater only better)
A Pleasant Shade Of Gray- 1997 (It's a 55 minute song divided into twelve tracks, one of the most depressing songs i've ever heard in progressive metal)
Every Fates Warning album is amazing and worth checking out, but these three in particular are worth checking out.
THAT GOES FOR ALL OF YOU, CHECK OUT FATES WARNING - ONE OF THE MOST INNOVATIVE METAL BANDS EVER. (Seriously)
Also i'm seeing Destroyer 666 and Enthroned tomorrow night - i'm pumped!

It's not A Pleasant Shade Of Gray. It's the first disc of Still Life. Which sucks because Still Life is my favourite Opeth album and one of my favourite albums ever and a band actually beat Opeth to the punch and already called an album that and that song might not even be as depressing as that fact. I has a sad.
Two things:
1. Yes, I've become a BBS mod now hence the gold aura.
2. I forgot to mention this yesterday but on Friday night I was at the same venue for a party and I was amazed at the music they played. I heard Amon Amarth, Finntroll and even Alestorm which my friends all air violined too. That's right, air violining. :P
At 8/28/10 10:24 AM, MaraquanWocky wrote: I wanna ask what you think of these bands...
I'm going to throw my thoughts in on the said bands for the heck of it.
Pantera
Only ever owned Cowboys and Vulgar. Despite what others may say, I think they're good albums but not great.
White Zombie
I only ever heard one song from them and that was in Guitar Hero III.
Metallica
Still love the first four albums. Black album and Death Magnetic are so-so. Funny enough, I bought Garage Inc the other day and it's alright. It's a shame their cover album didn't give bands like Budgie more recognition.
Tool
I have two of their albums and they're alright.
Disturbed
Lost interest ages ago.
Alice in Chains
I only have the album Dirt but it's really good. I really love the song Them Bones, especially when I heard the riff borrowed in Doom II.
Black Sabbath
Awesome, awesome to the max.
Deathstars
I heard them a few times but that was YEARS ago!

I've only listened to Pslam 69 which I think is good except for the odd track. I suppose Rio Grande Blood is the next Ministry album I'll have to get. I'll keep it in mind if I'm craving for more industrial metal.

Sadly, I wasn't particularly fond of Parallels, Inside Out and Disconnected. Despite that, I'm still looking into getting The Spectre Within.
