Slayer was not directly DM, however they influenced later DM bands. Slayer was thrash, kind of like Possessed. Hell awaits is one of the more influential Death/Black metal albums. This of course saying that hell awaits wasn't actually a Death/ Black metal album.

Is this from Wikipedia?
Dalnaki, you're so confrontational and full of yourself that you seem like the average Pantera fan. If Slayer didn't influence at least some death metal bands, then I don't know what did. Were they the only influence? Of course not, but they were one of the fastest and most aggressive thrash bands out there at the time (the others being Kreator and Sodom who were just as influential).
Just to let you know, I won't be amusing you any further with this post.
Here I am, bored with everything.

Just trying to spread the word / promote these guys a bit. Australian death metal / shock rock band. Super sick ass music.

You seemed to have missed the part where unlike you, I know what I'm talking about. You can wiki a band all you want, but that doesn't prove anything.

Juggalo metalcore band. No thanks. I thought they were a Slipknot cover band at first because of the masks.
I remember listening to Hammers of Misfortune a while ago. Considering Mike Scalzi was in the band at one point, I had high expectations but for some reason, I wasn't caught on during my first listens. I gave them another try last night and damn, they're really good. I'll have to get one of their albums sometime soon, even though I'm due to get 4 other albums right now.

I would have thought the Black Sabbath tribute album would have been decent. From a distance, it didn't look as bad as the Maiden tribute album by Kerrang. Now THAT was a disaster which was barely saved by decent covers from Dream Theater and Machine Head. Metallica did an awful job at playing Remember Tomorrow.

You think so? I didn't think it was great, but it was hardly a disaster. I did really like Dream Theater and Machine Head, but I thought Trivium and Fightstar (!) were pretty good on it as well.

I thought it was pretty forgettable, if not outright bad. But they should've done Alexander the Great or Aces High or Can I Play With Madness or something. Anything but Remember Tomorrow. Metallica and Iron Maiden are the two most recognisable Metal bands ever. It doesn't really feel right for them to cover filler. It'd be like Iron Maiden covering Don't Tread On Me or Better Than You.

That was...I'm not sure. I can't quite decide if it was terrible or not.

Eh, who gives a fuck about masks. It's the music man, not a fashion show.

lol Trivium. I thought the Kerrang Maiden tribute was flooded with emo bands. That's why it was hated by the majority. I keep hearing from a few people that the one who covered Run to the Hills are so bad it's horrible.
But they should've done Alexander the Great or Aces High or Can I Play With Madness or something.
Aces High could have worked but only if they were in the Cliff-era.

I think it makes sense for Metallica to cover an Iron Maiden song. Maiden released their first album in 1980 and I'm sure Metallica were heavily listening to Maiden's first few albums during the early days.
Trivium's cover of Iron Maiden was good. I haven't heard every song on Maiden heaven, but one song on it that I really don't like is Glamour of the kill's cover of 2 minutes to midnight, even though that song sucked to begin with.
on the subject of Earth: good shit. Nev is right, The Bees... isn't much of a metal album, but their other stuff is and it's all worth checking out.
So for the past two months I've been listening to nothing but Withering Illusions and Desolation by Austere and Peste Noire's La Sanie des Siècles. Anyone have any recommendations?
?

None of what I posted was from any wiki. Shove that up your ass.

Sorry but MOST bands with masks,(slipknot,The Bezerker etc) suck huge balls.

I fail to understand why people like Portal so much. I find it to be average death metal with horribly underproduced albums. The riffs are indistinguishable, drumming pretty monotonous, and the vocals average at best. Gorguts has more of an atmosphere than Portal does. Gorgut's claustrophobic and menacing atmosphere is created by the beautifully atonal guitar riffs, interesting drumming, and complex bass lines. Portal doesn't do any of that for me.
Pardon the rant, MA elitists are getting to me.
Here I am, bored with everything.

Rest of the post aside this is just ridiculous. Portal are so far from average you can't even see them any more.

And Finite is one of their best tracks. You should give it a few more tries :)I will, but that's not my point. I'm asking why you think Slayer's leads sound like nails on a chalkboard, but you have no problem with Origin's leads.
I usually don't have anything against musicians who play high notes (is that the correct way to say it?). But from what I've heard, their solos just sound like a clustfuck of random high notes played at super speed. But I got to admit that I only know a few songs by them. It might be worth it to check some more of their stuff.
Their work is far more memorable and their sound as evolved through the years. Correct me if I'm wrong.... but doesn't Slayer just sounds the same on all of their albums?I'd say you're wrong. Compare Reign in Blood to South of Heaven and Seasons in Abyss. Divine Intervention was a carbon copy of Reign in Blood, but the rest of their albums don't sound the same.
I can't quite argue on this one. Guess I will just have to do my homeworks and listen to their entire discography :P
That's just killing me... Cause he's probably my favorite bass player...This will probably kill you more.
No, cause I don't really like Cannibal Corpse... If I like Webster, it's because of his work with Blotted Science.
And I agree. I'd say your statements against smeagol were justified, especially considering his flaming of the user who mostly listed metal bands.
:)
Portal is amazing Idio. Get a good pair of headphones, get one of their albums, blast it. Then you'll get it. The louder you play them the better they sound. There are a lot of subtleties to pick up in their sound the louder you play it.

I've only heard one track by Blotted Science but damn, it's really good. I get the feeling I'll enjoy Blotted Science more than Cannibal Corpse. Then again, CC were the band that ALMOST put me off from death metal.

Aye. I listened to them with headphones fairly quite (cause you know, my hearing is fucked enough as it is) and I just found them to be noisy and meh.
Blasted them out through my actual speakers and they were so much better.

That's because Cannibal Corpse FUCKING SUCK.
Blotted Science on the other hand is amazing.
So I got my first listen of "Breaker" by For Today today. I must say, pretty freaking awesome. I know not many people are into the whole Christian Metal scene (or message, whatever) but it's pretty brutal. Give it a listen :)
Who's your warden, baby?
