We need to stop arguing as much here. Seriously, letiger might get used to those kinds of vocals. We all say stupid shit here, like that whole folk metal thing I started. Hell, I even remember arguing with Duff when I first signed up here about metal
Just look at this shit. I was an idiot here.
We'll just see if letiger likes more metal. Also sorry to make a spectacle out of you let.

I read your first couple - before they got long - and I commented on them. So it is exactly what you said.

I'm not the only one who does that, am I?
Extreme Metal isn't the be all and end all of the genre.
Shit be subjective.

No! Go fucking back and read you silly bitch!
If you can't understand my words you don't need to be a bitch to me.
You can dislike the vocals all you want. What I meant is that if you have a good musical intelligence you will understand how these vocals are coherent to the music and why they are not "killing the music".

Ehh I don't know exactly how to say this but you're kind of wrong. Now there are some bands that have really heavy instrumentals but pussy vocals and that kind of ruins it, however saying you need to be Musically intelligent is... well stupid. The only actual musical theory behind vocals is staying on beat and in time really. The style of vocals don't have anything to do with Musical Intelligence.
But at the same time saying a certain type of vocals kill the music is more ignorant/opinionated. Like one song by Origin, the vocals just couldn't keep up with the instruments and it ended up sounding bad.
Some people just do not have the musical intelligence..... there is more sophisticated music, with more work, more research and deeper meaning. Great creativity and unique ambiences and feelings.

I still think they're Power metal, just not the typical Stratovarius-esque sound. Then again, Grave Digger sound alot like Running Wild yet I don't think they have a lot of power metal elements in their music.

I lol'd at the mental image. Usually that's associated with atmospheric black metal. A lot of the atmospheric black metal fans I know are trendy pretentious Starbuck coffee sipping hipsters.
At 6/13/10 01:22 AM, HeavenDuff wrote: The band Dalnaki was talking about... Dream Death... is not really a Death Metal band.
Dream Death is death metal, HeavenDuff. Death/doom to be exacty. I know using some kind of guttural vocals would solidify their position as a DM band, but you have to keep in mind vocals don't make the music. I know it's not legit DM in the modern sense, but mind you, it was the 80s. Plus, they're a good representation of what early death/doom sounded like.
Also, guy who doesn't like gutturals. Try some Cancer. I don't think their vocals will grate you too much, as they're super raspy, as opposed to the guttural ones commonly used in DM. Or even some Leukemia if you want to hear what glam sounds like if combined with DM. Ha, I kid, they're not really like that. You should just hear all of Suck My Heaven. I have a few more, but I don't know if you'll like them.
If you want more DM with vocals that aren't super guttural or anything, and if you have Facebook, add my friend. He knows a fucking lot about DM, even more than I do. Metal in general, too. Also, don't worry, he's easy to approach and a pretty nice guy. So yeah, basically anyone who wants to learn more metal stuff should add him.
Also, who's with me on that this is a beautiful song?

Hey guys, I'm looking for some good blackened death metal bands, because I've recently been listening to a lot of Behemoth, Goatwhore, and Panzerchrist. I want some more to change up my blackened death metal library.
I also wrote a review of Blood Tsunami's Thrash Metal. Any feedback would be appreciated!
Proud Demon residing in the METAL HELL!
Lay down your soul for the god's rock n' roll!
Damn, I was going to post the completed collection for Iron Maiden and the glorious picture of Eddie on the spines of the CDs, but on closer inspection, I was 3 albums short.
Still, I now know which ones I need (bolded are the ones I'm yet to own)
Iron Maiden
Killers
The Number of the Beast
Piece of Mind
Powerslave
Live After Death
Somewhere in Time
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
No Prayer For the Dying
Fear of the Dark
A Real LIVE DEAD One
Live at Donington
Now I know which ones I need, I'll be over to HMV and I'll be grabbing what I can soon. This is how it looks so far:

I also mentionned that... Some vocalists really are not good. If you can't do it properly, than yes, you probably are killing the music. But saying that a whole type of vocals is not good, is just showing that you are not getting it. Like I said before. I'm not really into the more thrashy vocals in Metal music (most of the time in Thrash Metal or Thrash/Death Metal bands) but I can still understand how these vocals are good and coherent to the music. I don't like these vocals... at all. They kind of annoy me, but I'm not going to say they all sound like shit.
No, the style of vocals don't have anything to do with Musical Intelligence. If you go back and read my words, you will understand that I love all kind of vocals, clean, harshe, growls, screams, falsetto and more. There is no "better" style of vocal. That is really not what I meant. What I meant is that if you keep your mind closed to everything except clean vocals, you really are limited in your musical intelligence. If you can't appreciate anything else than clean vocals... and not just in metal, that's the same for every musical genre, than I guess you really are lacking musical intelligence.

You're wording it weird. Just because someone won't listen to or give those vocals a chance doesn't mean they're not intelligent. It just means they're close minded.
Every time I see the words "musical intelligence" I facepalm.

Understanding why its effective is irrelevant. If you're listening to/watching/doing something and an aspect of it kills the experience it doesn't matter whether or not you understand it, it still kills the experience because you don't like it.

Usually, people who judge harshe vocals and the such as bad vocals are those who get stuck on their first impression. If I would have sticken to my first impression of metal, I would have never got any further in my own musical development. I think that I have gained even more musical intelligence by trying and trying again to understand the music. At first, I couldn't stand screams and harsh vocals. They were killing it for me. But that was because I didn't have the same musical background back then. Saying that one doesn't evolve in his musical knowledge and musical intelligence is wrong. If everybody was on the same level, how could I tell that I've acquired a better sense of appreciation of music? Cause I sure did. I understand metal a lot better than I used to. And understanding these vocals is an important step to appreciate the music.

I didn't say intelligent. I said musically intelligent. Being open minded when listenning to music is a sign of a good musical intelligence. You can still be intelligent in a lot of other things, really.

When did I say anything of the sort? I didn't like growling and stuff at first, but its not because I didn't understand, its cause I thought it was shit. And I grew to like it not because I understood it any better, but because I merely started to enjoy the music.
