Post 10 bands that you listen to.

Off of the top of my head :

Iron Maiden
Artillery
Sodom
Kreator
Witchburner
AP backwars N backwards R (Russian)
Slayer
Nuclear Assault
Exhorder
Sepultra

The last three I had to think about.

You're definitely a fan of thrash metal and old school death metal. I approve.

I recommend you check out Overkill, Destruction, Demolition Hammer, Possessed, Obituary, Vader, Exodus, Coroner, Voivod, Witchery, Death Angel, Forbidden and Vio-lence.

That should keep you occupied for a while.

I'd also recommend you got Helloween's very first three albums(walls Of Jericho, Keepers part 1, keepers part 2) and tell us what you think - you may be someone that could get into power metal.

Well, out of those, I've only heard of Demolition Hammer, Exodus, and Coroner. May listen to them after I'm done playing this new game I got.

Alot of the core bands I see at my local venue are fronted by short haired/bald medium height guys built like trucks covered in tattoos, or lanky/short skinny emo kids, it's amusing :P

Something you need to know is that when a musical genre gets popular, there will always be a huge proliferation of shit bands who will try to take advantage of the popularity of the genre. I still think we shouldn't judge the whole genre because of these greedy attention whores.

Well said

So if you put all the these bald macho guys and skinny emo kids, there is still authentical people on the deathcore scene. As I said before and I think you guys will agree... is that there is still a vast majority of shit bands on the core scene. Still, there are some good bands amongs the deathcore bands out there.

Yea there are good deathcore bands out there, Desolated for example, though they're better live, and I don't think much of them always wanting people to 2step...

Also I know they're always one of 'the' bands to be pointed out when asked about deathcore (like Suicide Silence) but Whitechapels new album sounds pretty smexy.

Personally, I'm not one for discovering different genres. Usually I'd just look at the related video list on youtube of bands I've never heard of and see how they sound. Lead me to Nuclear Assault anywho. By the way, are there any bands like Artillery? Specifically in the same style as By Inheritance or B.A.C.K

You will eventually, trust me - it'll be hard for you to stick with one or two metal genres without ever branching out to the others at least a little.

ESPECIALLY in this thread where we talk about all the genres and at concerts where there is USUALLY a mix of metal genres in the bands.

Usually I'd just look at the related video list on youtube of bands I've never heard of and see how they sound.
Lead me to Nuclear Assault anywho.

Speaking of which, I give you brownie points for knowing NA, Artillery and Exhorder.

Just one question: "AP backwars N backwards R (Russian)" - what is this? I demand a link to this band as i've never heard of them before.

By the way, are there any bands like Artillery? Specifically in the same style as By Inheritance or B.A.C.K

That were on my initial recommendations list: Forbidden, Death Angel, Razor, Vio-lence, Overkill
That weren't on my recommendations list: Paradox, Heathen, Whiplash, Onslaught, Xentrix

(Paradox from germany, not the electronic group - there's two paradox's.)

Almost all metal has melody.

Even technical death metal has some melody in it.

And most thrash metal has melody in it, ESPECIALLY 00's thrash metal.

Exactly. I didn't want to give him recommendations to genres he doesn't appear to be a fan of yet - i'll let you guys give him recommendations when he starts wanting to start exploring new genres. (unless it's power metal, which i'll be there)

Something I really need to add...

Deathcore is only good when you can really feel the death metal in their work. The typical deathcore band makes bland music... dumb chugging, worthless and boring chug riffs with cheesy clean leads sometimes to sound technical. Stupid ass generic breakdowns, have a boring bass line, add some random clean vocals to sound radio friendly, put this big shit in the blender and press on 3...

In fact, the genre I just described shouldn't even have the right to use the word Death in their genre classification... cause it obviously doesn't have to do anything with the genre they took the name from, which is death metal. And when I say nothing... it's really NOTHING! Copying the guitar distortion or setting your instruments like a death metal band is not making you a death metal band. Only good Deathcore bands are those who really have good death metal elements. So fuck Born Of Osiris... Fuck Bring Me The Horizon...

It's funny that I found Aritllery by knowing the album art for By Inheritance, but not who it was by. I don't even know how I knew the art, I just did.

According to Metal Archives, their name in english is "aria".

It's still new to me though, so thank you!

Any album(s) recommendations by them? According to MA they have a lot of albums...

Every band that has a lead guitarist has melody. Melody isn't just nice sounding noise. In a musical sense melody is basically just single notes played in an order as shown by picture.

As long as their songs don't consist entirely of chords or equal representations of chords then yes. You guys talk about melodic bands as if the term melodic is used in a different way. Say the tremolo picking from angel of death, it may not sound totally complex and whatever, but in technical terms it is a melodic riff.

Unless you're pornogrind, but we'll save that discussion for another day...

Oh god, I've heard things about pornogrind.

They're like blackened death metal, only instead of blackened death metal they're blackened thrash metal.
