Death isn't the biggest DM band. Cannibal Corpse is. They've sold the most albums.

Shame, Death are much better than Cannibal Corpse. However, they have had some media attention so I suppose it only makes sense for them to be the best selling death metal band.

They're an acquired taste. True thought that it is one of the weak points. They can get grating if it's not your thing.

Also, Ashdautas is pretty dece. Plus, older Diamatregon is good. I had only heard Crossroads until about a week ago. Echtra is also really good in my opinion. A lot of people would probably find them too monotonous but it gets pretty trance-ey after a while. Sucks you in.

Out of those bands I only know as i lay dying and they're not metal.

I would suggest re-doing the list with ten bands that are with a doubt metal.

Sludge and doom and stoner, and I front a stoner rock band. But I still appreciate the black metal.

By normal I mean stuff like Gamma Ray, Helloween, Black Majesty, Dragonland, etc. I've heard of Helstar, but I always thought they were thrash metal.

Helstar a classic example of what 80s USPM sounds like. USPM tends to be heavier than their European counterparts.

I didn't say all of filosofem was bad only a few songs. Like Dauði Baldrs and Hliðskjálf. I can't stand listening to this kind of thing, or at least not for 9 minutes.

Their album is fucking great, I recommend it to everyone who likes more speedy and melodic thrash metal.
