I think I've heard of them, but not heard them (bleh, how many times I've said that) but I'll check 'em out - I do like a little tech

Even though it has been out a little while, and I already mentioned it in my last post, but that Opeth cd is good, better than I thought it would be.

Recently acquired Esoteric - Metamorphogenesis and it's pretty good. I'm currently getting the rest of their discography.

I ordered Bruce Dickinson's Skunkwork. I've never heard any thing from him, hopefully he's good.

I'm also planning on getting a few shirts and other CDs, since I got some cash for my birthday.

I'm currently writing a review for Sunn O)))'s Black One. Has anyone else heard it?

I seriously prefer listening to Maiden than just Dickinson, but that's just me I guess, plenty of people like it =P

Yeah? I love Maiden, so I figured I'd give Dickinson a try. Plus, the CD was only $1.00 to $2.45 shipping. =]

Everybody or almost everybody knows that Metal Music, most of the time, is not a music with happy lyrics, the lyrics are most of the time about sad things such as death, violence and things like that, but I started listenning to a band a couple of months ago, the band is named Edguy, and its very different than a lot of other metal bands, its very good and I really like the Singer, hes so good, and the lyrics are so beautiful... I really like these guys. Am I the only one that listen to them?

What do you people like to read in a metal album review?

No, I actually bought a copy of Mandrake ages ago when I was really into power metal. They're alright but I find some of their lyrics to be poor. The track All The Clowns, for example, I just refuse to listen to because I can not take it all seriously as it is a song about clowns. The album is alright but that song is just ridiculous.

I enjoy a detailed song by song review, but without too many spoilers :) I am a guitarist so I enjoy reading a lot about guitar work as well.

btw, I only heard one Sunn track yet, can't really judge them, but didn't like that track. It was just a sample of a song though.

From what I know of your music tastes I would probably reccomend something off their upcoming album Black One. It has a strong black metal vibe, particularly due to guest vocals from Malefic and Wrest.

Metal has most of the time sad things? eh, not exactly.
There are quite a few metal bands that are generally happy, like Stratovarious, and I think they are really good. But Edguy... I have onl;y heard one song by them, it was yet another music video on Monsters Of Metal Vol. 2, the song was titled "King Of Fools" judging by that song. They are very good.
And also... Heavy Metal, NWOBHM and Power Metal take a up quite a bit of the metal universe... you do not see much death and violence in there.
But in all, Metal's lyrical themes... are very diverse.

I dont say that all the bands are sad and violent, I say that lots of bands talk about sad things... I know that some bands play music with good and happy lyrics, but I most often see bands like Cradle of Filth, Slipknot, and some bands like Megadeth, Kalmah, Sinergy and Children of Bodom, which are not really "happy" metal bands.

I am aspiring to become a professional writer, so I know a tad about it.

Be descriptive, but not too wordy (that sounds terrible, I know, but its true. Don't have 50 word sentences, but be adaquate. Like "the guitars were crunchy and hit me hard as hell" instead of "the guitars were heavy"). A little backround info to set it up would be good, but not too much. Don't write a song by song review, those things suck. Keep it pretty short and to the point. Also, its good to be as little biased as possible.

I'm sure you're review will be kicking, maybe you could link it if its online, or tell us what mag its in if it isn't, I'd like to read it.

And all that stuff I wrote up there is merely suggestions; do what you want.
Good luck.

As far as happy lyrics go, I've heard some. I like them as long as they're of quality; no one likes sappy happy, angry, OR sad lyrics. If they're good, it doesn't matter what they're about.

Yes, it doesn't matter even if they are about clowns, as long as its written correctly.

Here is what I've got so far. It will no doubt be edited a lot, not to mention longer, by the time it's done .

Black 1
Sunn O)))
Southern Lord Recordings

The luminary drone duo that is Sunn O))) have, once again, created a soul crushing masterpiece that is Black One. Retaining their core line up of Stephen O’Malley (Khanate, Burning Witch and artist extraordinaire) and Greg Anderson (Goatsnake, Burning Witch and record label owner), this aural journey through Hell features Wrest and Malefic, two vocalists who seem to sing pain, and the droning guitar work of Oren Ambarchi and John Weise. The addition of the aforementioned guests result in a sound that is unmistakably Sunn O))), but it is a darker, nightmarish Sunn O))).

This album is certainly not for the faint of heart as, despite the first sinister track, the oppressive riffs and tortured vocals are constant and unrelenting. Black One emanates a black metal vibe, as opposed to their previous releases which were strictly drone affairs, particularly on the tracks featuring the twisted vocals of Wrest and Malefic. Minimalist chords and bass lines combine to form a seismic flow of tenebrous doom, berating your ears and causing a slight sense of claustrophobia.

Any constructive criticsm on what I've done so far is appreciated.

That's excellent so far. Makes me want the cd!

On the flip side - It is a little adjective heavy. It isn't so heavy it feels oppressive, but a couple could be cut to improve the flow a little. Other than that, a very good job!
