Back to Juhani Palomäki's death for a bit. I didn't even know anything happened to him until my brother asked me, "Did you know that the frontman of Yearning died?" And I see that it has already been discussed here, so...yeah.

Also, Municipal Waste had a free show here earlier today, but it's 21+ and I'm just a year under that. This is one of those times when it sucks being only 20.

Not quite what I meant. For example listen to the part that starts at 1:00 in this. I don't know how to describe it, but it just has a certain groove about it, if you know what I mean.

Very excited about this. Though like you said, it is a little too soon for a new album from them.

I really don't like that album. When I'm talking about Decapitated... I am usually talking about their first three albums. And I still don't understand what you mean... I go "fuck yeah" and headbang to Origin... I think it just depends on what you like...

We'll just have to wait and see if it was reasonable to release another album so soon.

I'm still wanting them to re-release the goddamn debut album already! I don't want to download this album illegally due to lack of availability and would much rather buy it on CD. If I download the album, I know I won't be motivated to buy it when I can.

Supposedly a 'Paul Grey' of Slipknot was found dead in his room, and they're gonna do an autopsy tomorrow. No links because I just saw it now on the Pantera Facebook page.

Seriously, what the fuck is going on with all te deaths lately?

It was a sad day when Dio died.
It was a sad day when Chuck died.

I don't see what the big deal is with their bassist, he played simple bass lines and wore a mask, hell he's not even in a metal band. Slipknot could just teach a monkey to play his parts.

Shit... what the fuck is going on?

Peter Steele, Ronnie James Dio, Juhani Palomäki and now Paul Grey.

I know it's just the bassist from Slipknot, and for most of you they don't play Metal, but anyway... Slipknot is band that had my respect for a long period of time, then I won more maturity in my musical interest, but in a place here down in my heart, I still like it... anyway... life goes on...

Also, I forgot to say R.I.P.- Juhani Palomäki, I was only introduced to Yearning a few days ago, but I really liked it, so I feel that I am in the right to wish him a good rest.

I just heard about the death of the Slipknot bassist and while I don't like the band anymore, it's really hard for an individual to go away like that. For those that knew him very well, my sympathy goes to you.

Which is why I said in another thread, normally someone's death is bad but I am not saddened by this.

for most of us? They simply don't play metal, as in the music they play is in fact not metal.

And Slipknot may be a horribly shitty band, but if any of you guys are going to be celebrating the death of a man who did you no harm, then you should be ashamed of yourself. The guy is fucking dead.

I'm not saddened by his death by any means, but that doesn't mean like Bahamut and Sensey have demonstrated that you can't feel sympathy for his family, etc.

Now you guys are just being rude...

Anyway...

We do not often discuss genres like Gothenburg Metal... but I think we should. While being similar to Melodic Death Metal, Gothenburg Metal is still a genre on it's own. I don't know how to describe it. I compared it to a rollercoaster. Gothenburg plays a lot with ambiences and transitions between slow and smooth parts to agressive and heavy parts. Again, the ambiences are very important. My favorite bands amongs the genre are still Dark Tranquillity, Scar Symmetry and Soilwork.

The problem is that some of these bands tend to fall in the core trap... Like Soilwork did... Now they are as generic as Bring Me The Horizon...

I just got the news that Paul Gray of Slipknot died. I found it absolutely hilarious and I am very happy about this event.

Now we just have to wait until Corey Taylor gets cancer.

I'm not saddened by his death either. who is? I don't care about him. But I'm not such an insensitive cunt that I'm gonna act like it's a good thing that he died, because it isn't. It's like you guys forget that people you see and hear in the media are real people, not fictional characters, and that it's actually not cool to shit on a dead person like that.

Yes, I'm calling you an insensitive cunt.

You're all a bunch of shameless cunts.

Why do you 90 percent of you guys act so stuck up? Slipknot revolutionized metal in so many ways it's ridiculous. Slipknot was the Muse of metal for a long time. They were the one band that could have a show where no one else would play, and yet could draw in crowds that GROUPS of bands could only dream of. As far as live experiences go, I have yet to see a band bring in the energy and spirit that Slipknot brings to the stage, and they will go down in history for being one of the best of all time in stage presence.

Maybe it's just because I've always been a drum guy at heart, and between one of the greatest drum part writers ever in Joey Jordison, whos influences can be seen in almost every metal band of the day, and a unique percussionist who adds different drums and beats to songs that no other band has ever brought to the table, and to have been constantly revolutionizing their sound for as long as they have, to me, demands respect. In Psychosocial, in the last breakdown, the percussionist puts on a high quality marching snare and really drives along with the rhythm and the whole thing sounds amazing. Ten years after they first started doing it, and they're still coming up with unique ways to incorporate different types of drumming into their music that other bands have never even considered previously.

A lot of the fan bases for a lot of the different genres of metal have come from huge bands like Slipknot opening peoples eyes. You guys can act all high and mighty and continue your "Oh Hotelcore is way better than Golf Metal" crap and spend more time putting labels on bands than actually listening to the music, but the fact is that the wide ranges and diversity of Metal as it is today is HUGELY influenced by Slipknots actions over the last 10 years. Paul Gray played a huge part in that, and it's a shame he has passed on. My thoughts are with the families and friends, and hopefully we'll see the band bounce back from it stronger than ever. I'm sure that's what Paul would have wanted.

Now I'm going to disappear again because you're all a bunch of know-it-all cunts who want to bitch and moan about which bands qualify as what genre and blah blah blah instead of just enjoying good music, and respecting people who have carved the way for metal as it is today, evidenced by your reaction to Paul Grays death. I knew you'd all be loling about it since he doesn't play for Opeth as soon as I heard the news though, so I figured I'd swing by and try and slap some sense into your dumbass heads. We'll see how that goes though. Not trying to judge on all of you, I know there's some good guys in here. The attitude in this place just bothers me.

Dude... It's like you are saying Eminem revolutionised Metal...
He may have revolutionised his own genre... but surely not metal. And Slipknot is not Metal...

Response to Metal Hell 2010-05-24 21:35:08

And em... No Slipknot drumming, even if Joey Jordison is by far the best musician of Slipknot, did not influence a lot of metal...

Listen to Blood Red Throne, Origin, Death, Morbid Angel, Benighted, Blotted Science...
Tell me how these Death Metal bands could have been influenced by Slipknot... while most of them have been making music for longer than them?

Death Metal... influences Death Metal...
And Slipknot... influences Nu-Metal... BECAUSE THEY ARE NU-METAL !!!
