Nocturnal is a great album. I have not listened to their other work nearly as much, but enough to say that they are a consistently good band.
And they wrote a song about Castlevania, which makes them 10 times cooler.

Some of their stuff is good, but some of it is a little core-ish. I don't really know, I haven't listened to them in a while.
What I have been listening to a lot lately is Mork Gryning. They're exactly what I've been looking for, a clean-sounding black metal band. Went through 2 of their albums last night, really impressed. Anyone else have an opinion about them?

In the Absence of Truth was a good choice. That's a great album. I would have picked up Panopticon as well, though. fantastic stuff.
High On Fire
I dig them. and Cynic.

I'll check them out. Which album should I listen to first?
Metal Archives would suggest "Surrounded by Thieves" and last.fm would suggest "Death Is This Communion".
Cynic are also really good and you should listen to them.
I already know them. Focus is best. Traced In Air is very generic...

I see you guys do not really like their newest... Why is that? I've read reviews of that album on Metal Archives and people there seem to like it.
Plus, I've read they will play their last show ever in Montreal. That would be totally awesome to see them live before they split-up :)
High On FireI dig them. and Cynic.
Focus ftw.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news guys but it doesn't look like anyone has noticed yet. Juhani Palomäki, the driving force behind both Yearning and Colosseum died on May 15th. There hasn't really been any details on how or why it happened but needless to say I'm crushed. Yearning has been my favorite band since around the time Idio first recommended them and I had nothing but the utmost respect for the man and his music. It's probably going to be one of the biggest regrets in my life never trying to contact him and thank him for his music. Its always meant a lot to me.
RIP

I suggest either Blessed Black Wings or Death Is This Communion. Snakes for the Divine is great too.

And Yearning guy nooooooo :'(!.
Hopefully Idio will come and discredit this...
I've been looking for some really good death metal lately, and I want your guys' opinion. What are some really great death metal bands?

They're playing at a festival in Finland in August for anyone who's interested.
You know, I'm just noticing that apart from Cryptopsy and Cannibal Corpse, I don't listen to much Death Metal anymore.

Death ( of course )
Morbid Angel
Massacre
Obituary
Deicide
Does anyone know when Devin Townsend is going to release Deconstruction and Ghost? I've heard both 2010 and 2011. I would like a more definate idea. And thanks to everyone who suggested Death metal bands.

Whoah shit I just listened to Death's Infernal Live demo tape And I must say Chuck sounds fucking epic.
FUCK. God damn I love all the emotion behind Yearning's music and now that output has been silenced. Such an obscure, yet amazing band. Well, time to go on a Yearning binge.
Here I am, bored with everything.

You know, apart from stoner metal, I don't listen to much metal anymore.
I've been listening to a lot less metal as the year has gone on. I still like it, I just don't listen to it all that much. Looking at my last.fm charts, the only metal bands I've listened to substantially over the last six months are Kyuss, Municipal Waste, and Mastodon. And for the last 3 months, Kyuss, Sleep, and Municipal Waste.
Weird. I dunno if I like that.

You know I think Snakes for the Divine is easily the weakest album. It just got very boring very fast without much going on. Blessed Black Wings, Surrounded by Thieves and Death is this Communion are all brilliant albums though.
At 5/22/10 07:03 PM, Zodir wrote: I've been looking for some really good death metal lately, and I want your guys' opinion. What are some really great death metal bands?
Here are my favorites:
Suffocation
Dying Fetus
Devourment
Nile
Necrophagist
Aeon
Decapitated
Behemoth*
Goatwhore*
Immolation
Torture Killer
* Blackened death metal
God Dethroned is easily one of the best death metal bands from the past twenty years.
Here I am, bored with everything.
I go away for a few days in Scotland and I find out two things happened while I was gone:
1. New Slough Feg album coming out later this year! Can't wait, even though it seems too soon for another album from them. Then again, Ape Uprising only had 8 tracks which is less than how many a Slough Feg album usually has.
2. It seems there's a group of douchey Christians who are going to protest at Dio's funeral. Completely dispicable! >:(
At 5/19/10 06:55 PM, AniMetal wrote: White Wizzard? Holy Grail?
Pretty sure both these bands kick the shit out of RTR.
I've only heard one White Wizzard song but I'll agree with that. I did see a silly music video of theirs, however. I'll probably look into more White Wizzard later on after finding out about them from Bruce Dickinson's Friday Rock Show which will sadly go off the air after the last show this Friday.

I assume this is the self-titled album. If it is, let me know what it's like as I'm hoping to get more Budgie albums sometime in the future.

Although I hardly know Nevermore, there better be a show in the UK! Seeing Candlemass and Symphony X in one night would be a great experience.

Can't say much better myself about this guy. May hasn't been a good month for metal at all.
At 5/22/10 07:03 PM, Zodir wrote: I've been looking for some really good death metal lately, and I want your guys' opinion. What are some really great death metal bands?
Origin
Blood Red Throne
Blotted Science (Progressif and Technical mostly... kind of deathish)
Benighted
Fleshgod Apocalypse
Cynic
Necrophagist
Spawn Of Possession
Death
Decapitated
Panzerchrist
Braindrill
Krisiun
Nile
Martyr
Suffocation
Deeds Of Flesh
Decrepit Birth
Cannibal Corpse
I mostly like Technical Death Metal see? :P
Origin and Blood Red Throne are the best :)

Bit of both really. I listen to lots of radio now as well as music... just not Metal.
Anyone know any other groovy Death Metal bands. Stuff like Decapitated, where you just have to start bobbing your head and go "fuck yeah".

I dunno exactly what to call the Soundbyte, but they have kind of a doomy, kind of a gothic sound, I guess. Either way, they're very nice and not enough people listen to them.
